Has anyone been in, is currently in, or has completed a Master’s program? I submit my 1st ever APA style paper and it kicked my ass. I’ll be cynical and say that I probably only got a score of 50% on the paper. Would you believe that I’ve never written an APA style paper in life until now?
I was forced to learn APA stuff as a freshman in college. But no graduate degree, I’m the dumb one in the family hahaha
- :bluu:
I’m currently in an Econ master’s program. I’m doing pretty well though our citation method doesn’t revolve around APA and our source papers aren’t so difficult.
I have a JD, it’s alright.
I’m currently in a Psychology Masters program and I’ll graduate this upcoming December. Most likely I will begin working on my PhD after that.
I have a MS and I submit papers to conferences or journals.
They all have their own style.
Just get ready to spend lots of time making sure the style is right.
Fortunately they provide you with a Word or Latex template.
I finished mine in 2k10. Been working since 2k11, as I got the job a few months after I graduated.
Yeah, APA kicked my fucking ass so hard. MLA is a joke.
If you need help on APA, this is one of the best resources to use for paper writing:
http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/
It will take you through everything you need to know. After you do it a few times, APA isn’t so bad.
You will get the hang of APA format, just make sure whatever sources you use quote them correctly especially with the punctuation. Those funky tests gauge your ability in learning. If you don’t pass it doesn’t matter, what does is when you and if you take it again and do pass.
I’ve been on the fence about going for a Masters, considering I haven’t even found a job that uses my Bachelors…
Finished my pharmd back in 2009, 3 years and hired right out the gate
Easy as hell
Haven’t had a summer since 2003 lol
I learned APA in 8th grade. In high school I learned programming and wrote a program to do it for me.
Maybe because they’re picking the people with MS over the people with BS?
Honestly if you can’t find a job with a bs, get a masters. Find a place that hires interns or temps and network from there.
Assuming your bs wasn’t a means to get into a masters program and only to get a certain job, before graduating why didn’t you network or make connections to make sure you had a job lined up for yourself after you finish school.
Just stupid bro
If your future job searches lead you read
“experience wanted/masters prefered”
Get the masters, because nobody will hire you
What is your bachelors in and what kind of job are you after?
If you have the opportunity to get a Masters then you should. And if you get a Masters, looking into the economics of it because that’s purely what it is. If you are going into a Masters program to learn more than you’re just a lazy bum who doesn’t take the time to learn it himself.
Appreciate everyone’s insight and yeah, MLA is a fucking joke. It’s just slapping shit together last minute style.
My masters isn’t even in what my BA is…
I got a BA of music.
I got an MEd in Educational Technology.
Graduated in December, interview in January, job offer in March, started May 1, 2011 - 5 months after I graduated… No experience, the MEd took care of it.
Now, I fiddle with Web 2.0 tools like Present.me and write up suggestions to professors, give 1-hr long talks to the campus / at conferences about “innovative” uses for b/s like PowerPoint… Job’s easy as fuck.
Don’t think I ever had to do APA, only MLA.
Thinking of starting to get my MS next Spring. Hope it will be worth it. Most of the people at my workplace has a masters already. (Programming)
They are kinda surprise I don’t have one. My job is pretty nice and I learn alot about software development.
Do you have a telecommuting position or onsite? I’m actually looking for a part time, maybe full time software development/engineering/programming position
APA is more professional looking, MLA format is just common sense…
