Gouken Videos

^ Thanks for putting the vid up. I that will make it a lot easier for people to understand the concept, thus the Vortex.

To clarify:

You can use Shin Shoryuken as well, but it won’t activate the cinematic version on most of the cast and will whiff on quite a few members of the cast. This also works against slow startup, invincible, ground-based reversals that don’t have invincibility throughout the duration of the move and punishes all backwards teleports from their respective characters.

Agree

that’s an awesome video!
i don’t understand why the denjin doesn’t ignite against the tu though.

^ b/c the TU is a reversal and the safe jump automatically chooses the safest option for Gouken. The reversals that it can’t be beaten cleanly with dive kick, Gouken will block the start up instead and and if the move is punishable you can make them pay. Plus TU has that invincible start up, so the last hit frames of the dive kick can’t hit Sagat but it still puts Gouken in a position to block his reversal.

If they did some other reversal with a longer start up window that causes the dive kick to whiff and it still hasn’t made Gouken block before the game engine recognizes the Ultra input then Denjin would come out. It’s only like a 1 or 2 frame difference between dive kick hitting - Gouken blocking the reversal - and the ~ Denjin activating.

If they did a reversal that lacked invincible start up then they would get hit by the meaty dive kick instead.

The concept is pretty much like a crouch tech would work. With the crouch tech it’s always the same input but you’d get block, throw, or low short depending upon what the opponent does and the game makes the decision for us. I’ve seen a bunch of people requesting that option selects be removed from the game. LOL Depending on the character you can force people to just block on wake up b/c if they try anything else they will get stuffed and blocking leads to Gouken Flip grabs!!!

so your input has to be accurate within 1-2 frames for the setup to work against all three options?

With certain characters yeah, but I can’t see you not being able to master it.

Sagat (tu), Cammy (cannon spike), Guile (flash kick), Dee Jay (flash kick), and chun (EX Bird kick) come to mind first as having the strictest timing.

As far as I know, it won’t work on Abel’s EX Tornado throw either, nor the Shoto’s, Seth, and Dan (srks) (I also want to say Adon too since you have to try to beat his srk knees after his invincibility wears off). Dudley doesn’t have an invincible srk, so he’ll get stuffed, and Ibuki’s and Guy’s invincible reversals get blocked. Everyone else are just forced to block and let you have your way.

You can also enter in the same way after a cr. roundhouse. After a GF Grab, you can enter back in as well if you use EX GF at point blank range on their wake up, but this time you have invincibility on your side. Nice.

Denjin Hadouken is better overall.

I disagree.

what happens if the dive kick hits wakeup armor, like a focus or balrog’s ex dash?

Blocked.

so they can wake up focus - backdash to get out?

Anyone can.

Nothing new. Just hit sweep when you see the focus parry. Snags everyone apart from about three of the cast.

Edit: Ok, I’ll be a bit more specific. If Boxer does any EX Rush Punch, Gouken blocks it. If a character focus backdashes, the Ultra doesn’t come out but all you have to do is his cr.roundhouse on confirming they focused it and you’ll sweep them. Doesn’t even have to be instant - you have a bit of room to wait and confirm. You get CH damage and stun from the focused dive kick and then a hard knockdown.

It’s really just what I posted months ago but in video form.

Keep in mind that I am little more than a scrub noob but why was mago not trying to press with tiger knee? I had such major problems with that when i was playing SFIV on PC. Really only the cr Short seemed an effective tactic other than blocking smartly.
Haven’t played too many sagat’s on ssf4 though so not sure if something changed.

Other than that a great match with a no joke gouken!

After thumbing around here on all of the different videos, some of the most useful information I’ve gathered and executed as a Gouken player are the cr.lk xx Hadouken footsies; Also the cr.lk --> cr.fp xx Hadouken block string. I believe these are via the Desora videos that have been posted around here lately.

After incorporating both of those into my gameplay, I’ve noticed a considerable increase in my ability to play footsies with faster oppponents. Crouching low-kick is a really valuable tool for Gouken.

cr.lk x hadoken can be reversaled out of, even high level players will catch on.
but yeah cr. lk on its own is pretty useful.

Mago using Gouken looks like he’s gotten much better with him now.

^ yeah, I even picked up a couple of things that I could do a little more, especially taking advantage of his front dash after a blocked fireball.
