mago was also fighting some really scrubby people that if they new how to play against gouken, would have easily won. like that zangief one… that was pathetic.
as of those videos hes not doing anything anyone else does. except maybe dashing back and forth eradically : \
id like to see what magos precise mind can up with regarding gouken. i really do, but i think hes going to change his mind about playing as him pretty soon when he starts seeing the matchups.
Very true. Gouken is a whole different mindset than any other character. You can’t really play him like a regular zoning character, because his AA is not as sold. You gotta do crazy shit like LP fireball to bait jump ins and then counter it, risking getting baited. You have to risk DF mix ups. You have to deal with a lack of links which makes Gouken as I like to call a “Leap of Faith” character. There’s just so much to Gouken that makes him unlike any other character in the SF series.
your meta game really has to be on point with the old man, can’t herpd derp srk. He’s kinda pringles towards rushdown characters unless your opponent is haphazardly throwing out pokes or is telegraphing their movements in which case they eat counters, but who wants to rely on counter, a move with more recovery frames than active? I like that his style, that he’s different while seeming familiar, but that doesn’t mean shit to a tourney player.
Cr. Fp is beastly and for that grey area above Goukens head where cr. fp would whiff. Standing Close hard kick will hit. That shit can even beat out Bison after he tries that follow up attack after his head stomp. Not to mention it’s possible to catch them on the way down and meaty your Denjin after it lands too. The chip damage can win you a match alone, but some how it’s still considered a bad Ultra :wtf:
Abel and Blanka are infamous for that ambiguous cross up shit and it can prevent alot of that as well. Standing cl. hk is beastly when used right, and it has a 4 frame start up. It punishes Dhalsim very well after teleports and it auto-corrects for you too.
Each match up is different with Gouken and you have to rely on a different set of tools to beat you opponent, unless they are just giving themselves to you for free.
We better be spending time sharing how to play Gouken better, instead of quoting me everytime you disagree, right? I let the “denjin” topic go already, how about u?
It’s not even about the Denjin thread or any kind of grudge against you, it’s just really fucked to call out a player like Mago for not being familiar with every character right off the bat. Your remark was uncouth and uncalled for, and frankly your attitude towards the subject makes me sick.
This is why I take Tier list’s with a grain of salt. It takes knowledge, skill, and experience to be good with a character. If the character happens to be considered top tier or whatever is the icing on the cake.
However I do want to remain hopeful that one of these pro’s actually goes through the growing pains of learning how to use Gouken, b/c it is a hard road, but very rewarding when you figure it out; But very few people are willing to tough it out and crack open the books to learn him in detail, so my inspiration will continue to come from most of you guys.
Why rely on a ‘top player’ figuring a character out when the ways and means to do it yourself are already available to you? Entire Gouken thread just reeks of this laziness, waiting for other players to give it to them on a plate.
Personally I think those pro know Gouken more than what we think… They are not stupid, Gouken has tools to succeed, however some other characters just have better tools…
Another thing is their opponents know Gouken too… Just like Daigo know how and where to hit Gouken… (Just go watch Daigo vs Desora match)
Don’t underestimate the Arcade culture of the Japanese…
So what i hope is to see more vids of Mago (Gouken). We have suffer for so long, at last someone willing to take on Gouken, I just think is a good thing… No need to complain…
I agree to a certain extent, but knowing how to Anti Air with Cr. FP should be one of the most basic things you should know with Gouken. Most noob using Gouken think the only Anti Air he has is Kongo, you don’t start learning about how powerful cr. FP is until you spend some time with the character b/c the timing is weird and it’s weak spot is right about Goukens head, that area where cl. st. hk comes out.
Just b/c he is a pro doesn’t mean that he is experienced with the character. I think any of us wouldn’t look too good picking up a brand new character at first, even though we understand the mechanics of the game. He’s gonna need some time to develop and go through those WTF moments, then we will see if he drops Gouken b/c he can’t put it all together.
Gouken has a bunch of moves that if you fight with them the wrong way you can get the shit beat out of you, but if you understand the applications they can be very deadly and frustrating to your opponents.
That’s my point. We are the ones to figure out how to use Gouken more effectively, get more wins. That’s what we are doing in these threads such as “Consolidated Matchups & Strats”. Luckily most ppl like to share.
I know what u mean, but what’s wrong with we learn from each other or we learn from the pro? even the pro can learn from us too. Nothing wrong, except it accelerate our learning process…
Frankly I don’t think we can learn much, as we have seen and play enough of Gouken. Information & videos are everywhere. I just wanted to know how far Gouken can go… U give me a God tier character, I will also never win a tournament… I just don’t have the talent… But I would like to see how a pro fare, that’s all… Very simple…
