too many people have invincible, get out of trouble moves, so its usually not the best thing to try to do.
best thing to do is just use it in a combo, then try to go for a very ambiguous crossup and hope for the best, usually after a denjin, you hit them on their wakeup and thats gg.
id say that if you ever have more of a chance to use your backgrab against people more than others say like balrogs ex dashes or abels roll, these are the only reasons to me that i have experienced that you should ever use shinsho over denjin.
also a new little trick that probably works when you have full super bar, kinda learned it from yipes, is that if someone tries to anti fireball you with say an ultra or super, you can super cancel your fireball into a forbidden shoryu to bust them. im not sure if it works yet tho. i should probably test this out, and you also notice ALOT of people can do this, say honda chun abel balrog and adon.
so yeah… food for thought.

Denjin is a whole new level of Gouken. Although you might lose matches more often than you use Shin Sho. But Denjin makes your overall game better, i.e. spend more time on utilizing moves/zoning/footsie, instead of baiting for a back throw for a quick/huge damage.
Agreed with you on “lots of people can get out of Denjin on wake up”. But as I said, it is a whole new level of gameplay, which not only focusing on wake up/chip damage/combo after EX palm, but you give the opponent something to care about when facing your Gouken. -> Similar to people against Zangief act different when Gief jumps at them with U1 or U2.
Also you are right about the hadouken XX Forbidden shoryuken, one example I did with a Rufus who wants nothing but me throwing a fireball so he can do the Big Bang Typhoon (confirm fully hit when Gouken throws a fireball). Then what happens is that I just throw a fireball, and his reaction is so fast that as soon as my fireball leaves Gouken hand, the Rufus player did the Ultra 2. During the Rufus Ultra Pause animation, I mashed Forbidden Shoryuken. It really cancels out the fireball and then hits Rufus for may be 5-6 hits (the first hit does not hit).
Saying using Denjin makes you play better is silly. If you lean on Shin Shoryu as a crutch to win you’re playing wrong. If you would use the same mind set you have with Denjin that you have with Shin Shoryu you would play much better. It’s like saying using Guile in Vanilla makes you a great player because he has a terrible ultra. Learning to NOT lean on your ultra would give you the same result as using a bad ultra.

In my experience, if you get a big punish and guess right once right away with denjin it´s usually GG, even if you didn´t have full ultra bar.
If you have to attack a lot in the matchup, denjin tends to help and make gouken much more scary.
But your still relying on denjin as crutch. Ultras only become an actual tool after you get some damage. So if you rely on it than your relying on taking a lot of damage. I understand that focus absorbs and Kongo help build meter without taking the damage But that gray damage can really hurt if you get hit before it recovers.
I took a look at my player stats today for Ranked mode and I win with Ultra less than 25% of the time. I wander what’s the trend for you guys?
I guess it would be safe to say that my Ultra isn’t really winning me any matches.

wow, nice Gouken fight! But it seems to be when Akuma doing DemonFlip punch-move, Gouken has absolutely no option except block high. Akuma can loop this easily.
However his first round is very good, nice reaction of cr.HP-> fireball. Also, we should learn cr.LK -> cr. HP which is good when done occasionally.
