If I could remove one character from the game it would be Blanka, fuck that guy.
I feel the same way, the fact that lp hado does diddly shit to electricity is a pain. cr. FP and st. hk both do a good job as AA, and when he is hopping around I either try to grab him or start spamming cr. lp.
You will face alot of noobs who jump in > lp > short electricity (he get’s the frame adavantage wtf and they repeat), it can get a bit tough when they are mixing up meaty / empty on your wake up. But the good thing is, once you knock him on his ass you get to do the same shit to him with or without safe jumping.
Street Fighter is pretty much a guessing game that benefits the aggressor. I’m starting to think that Capcom wanted Gouken to be a grab/poke and bait/punish type of player and you have vortex piece. Blanka can make Gouken block a little more than what you’d like him to, just b/c electricity can beat most of your jump in attacks. (That’s some gay shit, I think electricity is = to Lariat in Vanilla now.) And even though Kongo beats electricity you are only a couple of throws away from putting Kongo on the shelf for a while.
If you can keep Blanka to a mid-screen fight, then it favors Gouken b/c you can punish almost any and everything that he does. Once he get’s right on top of you, it’s all about blocking/teching, counter hitting, spamming cr. lp, EX Kongo, and trying to land a well timed Focus attack to punish his ass.
As with all non-fb characters, once you get the lead they have no choice but to come and get it. And if he has no charge, he has to put himself at risk to get close, so be careful of the fireballs at this point).
And even though I know the strategy to Blanka his is still a pain in my ass every single time. FUCK YOU BLANKA!

Yeah, but the crazy thing is you can safe jump and option select them all to death so it baffles me a bit.
I think I just need to re-examine my footsie game. St. Mk has a lot of range and can either force your opponent to block or try something and cr. lk and cr. mp for tick pokes. They both can be option selected for whatever. St. HK is very good too and Cr. FP option select to whatever is good too.
I think we have some good stuff to work with, but we just have to maximize it.
mind you it has huge range too. I’d use st/cr. hk more though, so you wont get hit by stupid rose/bison/vega/blanka slides.
Gouken’s footsies are not bad at all.
I’ve been getting lots of backthrows by using the advantage and blockstuns to throw their option selects.
jump straight hp, wait a lil bit, backthrow their lk’s.
I feel you cr. roundhouse is too good not to use, but you occasionally get the Focus Fishers and they will make you play if they catch on to your cr. roundhouse pattern.
I still use cr. roundhouse A LOT, but I’ve been getting hit by Level 2’s all week long so option selecting has helped prevent a lot of that.
So here we go with a really good match. My opponent is “lorddvd jaws” who mastered E.Honda pretty well.

use shin sho against honda, it is almost perfect for his jumpins and to bust his headbutts after you throw an up fireball. believe me, with plenty of matches with jewelman, id say that match is probably (unless he was playing with me which i doubt he was), is in goukens favor.
also, try not to panic when honda is in your face and either backdash or jump back, instead of jumping toward him, and if you are jumping toward him only do it to get out of the corner and tatsu your way out of there, worst you will probably eat is a df+ fierce punch or sweep.
and dont forget about ex fireballs.
These were sparring fights. So i wanted to try the U2 out.
All matches we did, were a 2-1 or 1-2 result and they were intense.
But he got some nice skill and knows the game really well.
His Experience goes far beyonds mine.
Normally i havent big problems against a Honda Player, but he is beast ;).
I like those sparring matches with him. It is a good training.
@ viper i noticed that your doing denjin after palm outside the corner in the juri and sagat vids. why is that? are you trying to catch them if they tech the knockdown? or is there another reason. good vids btw.
In the 2 videos, i notice that you didn’t even use Gouken far standing HK once… When Honda walking towards, u shd kick the hell out of him… Try use more far standing HK, u will be surprise how good the kick is…
Yes, if you do Denjin right after palm and the opponent teched, the Denjin will get them for chip damage. However, it is a 50/50 against they tech or not because you need to release immediately (no time to see the words “technical”). OR you can do a FULL charge if they don’t tech. ODDS are below:-
- You charged, they didn’t tech, they are forced to block all hits (or do an invincible move)
- You did not charge, they tech, they are forced to block 4 hits (or do an invincible move)
- You charged, they tech, you are in deep trouble because they stood up, walk to you, and jump on reaction.
