Taizen vs. Desora

He looked a little nervous in his gameplay at the start, but still pulled it out. Anyone else have some videos or information about him at WGC?

so i was watching your guile videos and you didn’t take the million opportunities you were seemingly given to kongo his boom and catch him chasing it in. Were you thinking he was baiting it?

probably just me not playing optimally.
i practice a lot and try hard but my game is riddled with errors.
hopefully i can iron a lot of that out of my play with the help of these videos.
also, i dont think a whole lot while i play, i just do stuff then regret or rejoice later.

The main thing I’ve noticed is that on characters you can safe jump, you’re opting to go for a crossup dive kick. The reward for it landing is good, but it’s more often than not losing you the momentum gained from the knockdown by them either just reversalling away or it whiffing.

well, the people that i go for the crossup on also have reversals that will whiff whether i get the crossup or not.
so i am betting on getting the crossup or a whiffed reversal.
i honestly havent practiced safejumps at all yet.
i tried it a little bit in my first to 10 with insaynne’s blanka, but i kept mistiming it and getting hit by ex upball so i stopped.

You can’t safe jump EX Up Ball. It’s 3 frames.

Also on a lot of characters the crossup dive kick will stuff reversals even though you can technically safe jump their reversal anyway. So against Sagat, Guile, and Cammy I’d still go for the crossup because even if they reversal they don’t get away.

http://www.shoryuken.com/wiki/index.php/Blanka_(SFIV)#Frame_Data

that page shows it as 4.
it seems like something that i would just mistime.

Huh. Guess I’m wrong.

But 4 frames isn’t worth safe jumping in my opinion. Too hard unless it’s a braindead easy setup.

I wasn’t saying it’s wrong to use crossup dive kick because I use it myself, but when it’s used to the point where it becomes the norm and not the exception, it becomes easy to work around and fairly predictable.

And with regards to Blanka - even if your timing is slightly off and EX Up Ball hits you, you can still punish.

What? I tested this recently, I’m 99% sure you can’t punish EX Up Ball on hit except in the corner. LP Palm is too slow.

Oh and the crossup dive kick doesn’t even really need to cross them up to stuff their DP. Like raun said, he doesn’t even know if it’s going to cross up because the timing is so weird.

I don’t see what you’re trying to point out to me, I already know this. I was merely making an observation on what was happening in his matches.

i think the main reason i keep doing that crossup is because it is a guaranteed reversal whiff with a bonus of ambiguous jump in.
i cant think of any time that i regret going for it.

Actually, I’ll retract that statement.

I was thinking of some other character who can make Blanka look foolish. Although I did stick the PS3 on tonight and tried the dive kick ~ LK Tatsu option select , but it’s only really useful in the corner when Blanka’s best way out is EX Rainbow Ball. Beats out everything apart from EX Up Ball, which gets punished in the corner so the Blanka is more than likely to sit tight or Rainbow Roll out, which gets beat in the air.

I was at WGC. Two of the people I travelled with played Desora. One was a Cammy player who got him in groups and beat him in straight rounds, the second being a perfect.

Another is a Zangief player who got him in the Double-Elim stage and beat him in four straight rounds.

He also lost to lots of other people over the weekend. He really didn’t look good at all and doesn’t look like he plays SF IV much.

He beasted at CVS2 though and did very well at 3S.

some shine matches from mnstreetfighter

first to 10 with robgva703’s seth:

Random things i noticed in that Seth match:

He depends way too much on hits from that teleport crossup
You don’t focus SBs that much, even fullscreen backdash cancel ones
The first time you cornered him with angled FBs pissed him off so bad
You trained him to expect DF dive, then didn’t mix it up with throw or slide

Most interesting was the fact that due to Seth’s health, the jabstring actually does appreciable damage.

Also, in general it seems like Gouken v. Seth, it’s just overall more beneficial to make him deal with you rather than sitting back dealing with him like the Dhalsim matchup. Every time i’ve gotten hit by something Seth does it’s like “OH! Oh wait, it’s Seth. I don’t care.” Even his ultra damage is crappy and he certainly can’t afford to scale it with a combo lead in, and most of the annoyance comes from dealing with stretchy arms and SB traps. But he doesn’t have key Dhalsim keepouts like slide, knee, st.rh or j.mp, so doesn’t this seem like the one matchup where Gouken is actually a rushdown char?

Gouken standing back throwing fireballs is actually bad as Seth can st.FP you on reaction, perhaps even at full screen because of Goukens hitbox. The fireball travels slowly enough that Seth recovers to block I believe or it goes right over him while he has his arms outstretched. It’s one of the things I learned using Seth vs KillaKelly.

There was a point where that would have won him a round vs your Gouken but he matched your fireballs from fullscreen with fireballs of his own. Have you played his Honda?
