It’s not about what is practical, but what is possible. :wgrin:

Justin Wong’s Rufus vs Guyofkaillera’s Gouken:
enjoy
^ sweet vid!
Nice use of s.MP. Almost had that last round too.
nice showing!
too bad about the missed ultra.
that could have been a big momentum booster.
thanks for the video. i caught the last 10 seconds of the stream live. he did pretty well considering he faced J.Wong himself
Nice vid. Kinda annoying listening to the commentator calling the Gouken player random all the time. Isn’t that usually an insult to a player’s skill?
That was nice, he tried to look fancy in the end with the MP Hadou to EX to Ultra. But he should had just done the EX Hadou to do most damage.
Still that was so cool seen Gouken VS J.Wong, and actually seen Gouken winning the first Match is always cool, even if he lost the other 2.
pretty sure that guy is the best gouken out there right now, very good stuff, taking a game off jwongs rufus w/ gouken seems damn near impossible so props
I think Gouken has a pretty decent match against Rufus (as good as can be expected). Once Rufus gets in, it can hurt though, but Gouken can keep Rufus out admirably. Plus, Gouken can always purely guess and reset the situation in a pinch.
Yeah, the things that killed him were the mistimed counters and going for the fancy corner combo at the end.
Of course I’m just an arm chair Gouken playing wanna be who gets raped repeatedly online.
^ that’s not a fancy corner combo IMO. It’s especially easy against Rufus. I really don’t think he risked anything by going for that particular combo.
I think Gouken loses the match overall (I think Gouken loses a lot of matches :P). If he can dictate the pace and keep the opponent guessing he can win. But if Gouken gets put on the defensive and his opponent has good pressure and mixups, he can lose.
The problem with Gouken as a character is that after fighting him for a while, he’s too predictable. And if you’re main is someone with a godlike anti-air like HP Thunder Knuckle, Shoryuken, or Rufus’s Anti-Air, a lot of your demon flip game is gone and you have to play more cautiously.
I guess what i’m really trying to say is… his demon flip is slow as hell.
He’s almost like blanka. Once you know his tricks, it’s (often) game over.
Gouken’s tricks are solid, though. Full screen demon flips don’t cut it, of course, but off knockdown there’s a lot you can do. Barring that, he’s got a very solid fireball game he can fall back on, so he’s never purely out of options like Blanka. Gouken’s comeback potential is probably among the highest in the game.
What can Gouken do to punish blocked st.HP xx tornado against Rufus? Ryu just DPs through it. I guess Gouken can EX hurricane at least. Hmm… do you think he could EX demon flip out, cancel with throw, then punish from the back? Does Rufus recover in time?
That’s a tough one. It seems like a very safe move on block most of the time.
I should clarify, I mean EX demon flip between the st.HP and the tornado, land behind Rufus by canceling with throw instantly, then punishing as he’s doing the tornado.
^ he recovers too quickly and can throw Gouken first, before Gouken can even jump out of it.
If Gouken is crouch blocking, there is no hole if Rufus is close, he has to block the tornado.
You can ultra, super, or EX hurricane when there is a hole though. I have to admit that trying to do EX hurricane out of blocking is not my favorite thing to try.
yea man guyofkillera is easily the best gouken player out there…a lot can be learned from watching him…his gouken is tough…he has beat my ass before…and my buddy moose
