wow nice comeback on the first round there chillin didnt know you played SF4 thought you only played Smash
yeah i just started getting into 2ds a couple months ago, they’re fun. i think im gonna start going to 2d tournies instead of smash tournies cuz brawl is fucking garbage.
i also have some tvc vids vs azen up on my youtube channel
A couple well placed counters would have made that matchup go a little smoother.
any specific instances to use counter? im always afraid to use it against viper as anti air because she can just avoid it altogether with a burning kick and thats a large chunk of my life gone. also her thunder knuckles are insanely fast and go right through the counter, not to mention azen is a very patient player so when i start throwing counter a lot he just starts to wait for it.
^
I’m reffering to the first vid if it doesnt make sense I noticed you started useing counter in the second vid.
I think (if I remember correctly) ex counter should work against her lightening fist thing. Her flame kicks a pain in the ass tho. I useually try to block and then counter with palm or something. Vipers a tough matchup but you did pretty well patience plays a big part in Goukens play aswell.
what properties does ex counter have exactly? it can counter moves that break FA?
yeah I know it beats lariat and ex green hand plus it counters high and low which is awesome.
Good Gouken. I just would never md fb. I would stick with jb at md distance and fierce at 3/4 to full screen. Use your counter more often when she crosses u up. That should deter alot of her offense outside of her thunder knuckle combos and footsies. Keep using foucus for her front attacks. Besides that just keep doing what ur doing.
Viper is tricky and has serious advantages over Gouken IMO.
Also, CV’s thunder knuckles is NOT counterable, at all, by any kind of counter.
BTW, nice games!
so… im still training…
i know im still lacking a lot and that i dont do enough combos, but im working on it.
Here are some of my last fights:

Very nice gouken, highly defensive, similar to mine
I don’t have much experience vs viper, but I did play yesterday vs a friend of mine, I found that cr.fp can be quite useful too when she pressures a lot. After a blocked flame kick, use cr.fp, she will frequently go for antoher kick or thunder knuckles and eat the fp. Besides use a whole lot more fierce fb over mp fb from afar. I see you use a lot j.mp, again I suggest you use cr.fp instead, better priority, less risky, more damage. I didn’t know focus and crossovers could be so useful vs viper, i’ll take note
thanks for the advice. yeah, i was kinda lost on what to do for anti air vs her so i was throwing out a lot of j.mp cuz it works sometimes. ill try out cr.fp though and see how it works, havent really tried using it as anti-air.
and yeah i play pretty defensively in those vids, i like being aggressive when i can though. its just really hard for gouken to be aggressive vs most of the better chars, esp viper and shotos. vs certain chars though rushdown gouken is awesome, esp when you get the demon flip mixup going and they cant just srk you out of it.
You really don’t use cr.fp as anti-air? About 50% of my game is cr.fp as antiair. It destroys most shotos, bison, honda, etc. Yeah I play really defensive, but every time I try to be on the offensive with Gouken= “you lose!”
cr.fp is hard against Ryu/Ken/Bison meaty/late cross-overs. Start-up isn’t really that good in these scenarios, but it’s still an amazing anti-air and, like yourself, it’s my staple.
You can get massive amounts of damage through cr.fp in itself. I completely agree.
ive had very nice viper experience, against buktooths viper, in fact.
ive found that throwing random fireballs works very well, (oh but omg she can do seismo omg its gay.) NO. seismo is VERY risky for viper. especially if you have 50%. anticipate a seismo, punish her with the hardest combo you can, with viper do EX dive, then any BnB.
75%. full ultra, ex flip, any feirce punch, tatsu FDAC forward shin shoryu.
kills viper.
oh, and theres no reason why she should jump on you unless you are on the floor, just high counter her jumpin shenanigans.
what else am i missing…
does fp tatsu fadc ultra always work? i was trying out tatsu fadc ultra in training mode and it only seemed to work in the corner.
It typically needs a setup…e.g. c.mp to get the spacing right.
ah i see, so wouldnt fp or c.fp be the best setup since it gives the biggest time frame to link the tatsu, or is c.mk better for some reason?
About the cr.mp tatu fadc, my late experience is that it isn’t worth it. cr.mp doesn’t hit confirm, so you have to do the tatsu and pray the cr.mp hit or you will whiff the tatsu completely, since cr.mp on block makes the oppponent crouch thus the tatsu whiffs and you get punished badly.
It’s much better to use the tatsu only, space correctly the tatsu from the opponent that’s coming close to you and forget about the cr.mp. If it hits and you did hit him with the tatsu far enough, the ultra will still work even without the cr.mp at that distance, and if it doesn’t, you will still hit on block and can cancel for a grab or something.
