Gouken Videos

EX ‘Facepalm’ … this just made me lol so much.

On Topic : That combo is amazing and a must if you manage to corner your opponent, I do it as often as I can. Gouken has great damage combo’s much like Abel, except they are quite difficult to begin.

-U-

Cammy ultra’d me today in the middle of cr.lp, s.lp, s.lp, s.lk, cr.mp x(she got he mere)x lp hadouken, i could see the hadouken going through her :frowning:

I though the “weak” point in that blockstring was the change from s.lk into cr.mp, but not in c.mp lp hadouken :frowning:

Don’t forget you can throw an HP fireball in there between the EX palm and EX fireball! The timing is sorta tight though.

c. mp xx lp fireball for Gouken is strongly analogous to c. mk xx fireball from Ryu/Ken, and both of those on block can actually have some nasty things done to them between the normal and the fireball (EX uppercuts, FA the fireball and dash throw, ultras). so be wary of opponents who mash or have great timing, especially if it’s a ken who you can tell only uses 3P, 3K buttons. lol

This isn’t a chain or a link.

Go to training mode and throw the CPU on auto-blcok in training options. You’ll hit the cr.mp, but you’ll never hit the lp.Hadouken.

  1. The c.mp xx hado is completely breakable, even on a c.mp hit. It is normal that a move with invincible startup beats it.

  2. Was the s.hp xx tatsu on-block? If so, it is normal. If the s.hp hit then it is most likely online BS. Any move with invulnerable startup is basically BS online - especially 3 bars and lower.

THe only thing I can think of that actually combos after a cr.MP is a jab palm rush, and you gotta be really close, like cr.MK close.

Tatsu combos after cr.mp. I use it a lot. You have to be pretty close. Its good to punish jab SRK online IMO. I have pulled off a few cr.mp xx tatsu fadc ultra online but it is def. NOT one of my B&B combos.

I am loving the ex-palm dash s.hk reset mixup these days…

hi everyone
so… im asking for your advices
im a noob in playing street fighter against “human” people, i mean here that i played fighting games before, but always against the computer or a few friend… here is the first time i play against the human brain, and thats a different deal

situation is that im slowly progressing in the G3 championship, im playing a bit everyday and im trying to improve the best i can and learning a bit from others.

I send you 3 videos i made and i would like you to give me a few advices on what is ok, and what is not…
Please, use some “normal” languages because sometime its hard for me to read your posts when you reach some very technical levels of combo and tricks explanations…

also, please take into consideration that i know that my style is not perfect and thats why im asking for advices… so please no “you suck” our “i can do better than this” like i often read on youtube, but i think people here are worthing better than that…

So thanks in advance for your help guys.

(PS: am i using too much the demon flip?)

Well I misundestood you and found something interesting. I always used s.fp after ex palm for reset, however I thought you said s.fk instead of s.hk and checked s.fk instead.

I checked later your s.hk suggestion and din’t look much better than s.fp to me. However I’ve found that s.fk is the best option imho. I haven’t tested it all that much, but s.fk after the reset leaves you closer to the opponent than any other option, where even lk flip works while s.hk and s.fp don’t hit.

The best thing specifically, at least as far as I’ve tested vs ryu in training, is that s.fk -> fk flip does cross up, which could be quite useful, although it seems that the timing of the dash and s.fk is tricky and can miss the cross up entirely if you hit him too late.

vs sagat:

  • vs sagat tiger shots: palm to go through them, flip grab are your best options.
  • vs jumping sagat: either c.fp or high counter. This works for everyone.
  • vs tiger knee: cr.mp, tatsu. If you have two ex, you can fadc the tatsu for s.fp, flip or the ultra. If you hit him with an air fireball, palm him while he’s falling for extra damage.
  • if you hit with the flip dive kick, cr.fp, ex palm, and either palm or dash, fk tatsu. This is the b&b combo of Gouken, you won’t go anywhere with Gouken without this combo. It will also do wonders to punish the tigger uppercut or shoruykens.
-Back throw more, it’s one of the best gouken tools.

vs fei long:

-lots of mp fireballs.
-if you want to jump in to fei long or any other, use either mk or fp
-cr.mp can punish blocked dash punches of fei long, again you could tatsu him then.

vs gouken:

  • focus vs flip can be useful, beware of flip grab though.
  • again palm through fb
  • fp fireball is great vs flip

thanks oblivioner for those very precise advices…
but now i have my noob questions… (sorry)

  • what is c.fp ? ( c… fierce punch?)
  • is cr.mp - crouching middle punch ?
  • what is fadc ?
  • what is s.fp ?
  • what is b&b ?

c.fp = Crouching Fierce Punch
cr.mp = Crouching Medium Punch or Strong Punch
fadc = Focus Attack Dash Cancel
s.fp = Standing Fierce Punch
b&b = Bread and Butter (I think. First time I see this acronym too.)

Guile vs Gouken

The Guile is highly aggressive.

This video is fucking hilarious! I’m trying to play at that tourney or whatever it was. As for your game; (I’m in G1 not too great but decent) I would work on connecting more of your B&B combos. Execution is key with Gouken due to his large dmg and slow speed, his lack of a punishing anti air can come back to bite you in the ass. Rogs used to give me the most trouble right behind Hondas, but FA and corner pressure are usually keys for me to win. Get up in his face most of the time baiting the headbutt. Rog likes to eat Gouken’s ultra if far way, same goes with blanka if execution is done well.

wow the last rounds are a great diplay of gouken’s ability. I hadn’t seen before you ex palm to fb to lp palm in corner, any reason to do this instead of the tatsu?

On the other hand I see you try not to use ex to have it ready for cancels bu I was surprised you didn’t ex several opportunities for the palm juggle, going for the normal palm instead, I prefer to juggle whenever possible over cancel though.

Great vid, keep them coming pls.

wow reasoned your youtube channel is amazing, im going to check your incredible amount of vids, big thanks for all of them

Hey oblivioner,

That is not me playing. I think MirroR Chen is Taiwanese. I am on the East Coast US. I don’t play like him - I play more like Phunkism. I don’t have a camcorder to record my games but I do upload my matches on PSN when I win.

Ah ok, understood, I play on 360 so I can’t check your vids there either. BTW, desora24 has posted new vids, he’s quite good but a bit weird on his style.

One thing I did notice in his vids is that he tries to use dash as a wake up tool, interesting. I see there and in the vids you mentioned, that they do try at all costs to avoid using ex tatsu and ex flip on wakeup, probably to save ex for cancels. I like their way of thinking but it’s not quite successful. Lately I’m having some success avoiding wake up cross ups vs Gouken with j.mp in the opposite direction, but still have lots of problems with grounded attacks on wake up and I can only avoid them with ex tatsu and ex flip.

I save meter for ex-flip and ex-palm as well as the hado cancel. Without meter Gouken is pretty tame. The cancel is hard to pull off with 3 bars and lower so I avoid it in those matches. Although, I don’t play any match lower than 3 bars - it is just too painful.

I use backdash on wakeup sometimes. It has invul frames. I hardly ever use ex-tatsu, it is just too risky unless they are doing something really stupid like throwing lariat way too early. ex-flip on wakeup is dangerous also, the auto-track just does NOT move you far enough away from the guy. Gouken has the worst wakeup in the game, at least Able has EX-roll.

I don’t think j.mp works to avoid crossup if it is a properly timed meaty.

My main things on a ‘risky’ (i.e. the guy is right next to me and prepared) wakeup are:

  1. Backdash
  2. Block low and prepare throw tech
  3. If they cross up (easy to see ahead of time), I block and get ready to throw tech. For some characters a s.lp will knock them out of cross up so I use that sometimes also.

Obviously, these options kind of suck and in G1 everybody knows it.

i got a couple vids of me playing my friends viper with gouken

i absolutely hate this matchup, i usually go sagat vs viper because viper shuts down a lot of goukens options, like demon flip is practically useless vs viper most of the time

anyway advice/comments would be appreciated
