Gouken Videos

:nono::nono::nono:…Hahah…

Wassup Addy?

Not too much, riding the KOF12 hype train. Need to play some SF4 matches with you though, see if you can beat me. hehe.

:rofl::rofl:

No doubt my man…You originally a KOF player?

I don’t know why I’ve put it off so much but now seeing all these vids and match ups I’m gonna finally pick up GO. I mean when I first tried him out he seemed like he would have big combos and fun set ups, but I don’t know why I put it off so long.

Shogun, is there any way to grant only one hit with the j.mp in your grab mixup? I can’t get only one hit consistently. And besides is it really worth it to risk missing the mix-up completely for maybe 20-30 more damage?

Are you comparing the j.mp/c.hp mixup with the s.fp mixup OR just mixup vs tatsu in general?

If 1)

I can’t hit it consistently either yet so…until you CAN its probably not worth it. However, the j.mp/c.fp mixup has much LESS of a window for the opponent to react. It happens much faster, making it far more likely to succeed.

If 2)

If you hit them with the dive kick on the mixup its a lot more than 20-30 - its pretty much a dizzy/end of round.

If you hit them with either the sweep or throw then can lead to a high pressure wakeup which can lead to a lot more damage.

With tatsu you lose all momentum/advantage basically. I am not the greatest at the high pressure game but I have been trying to apply it when playing most charge characters (well…Bison’s wakeup options seem to be too good for it to work consistently).

Landing the J.mp after the backthrow IS crucial to your game IMO…
Im tired of hearing from a number of pepople about what is practical and what is not. If your aim to get better with gouken and create the nastiest mixup and pressure possible…Combos such as Ex Palm>Tatsu and backthrow>j.mp are crucial to know. In a high competition match, those small nuances and combos that create openings are few and far between…so the damage has to be done quick…

Reasoned is right though…Don’t do it until you CAN…and the window for reversal is SOO much smaller so it is worth learning. I can say after the backthrow, it is done REALLY late…the timing is quite easy once you learn the window to do it in. I can’t really give an easy way to do it…Just do the backthrow…(pause) j.mp…there is no science to it…

I can releate to reasoned.

For me there is a line between practicality and reliability. j.mp > c.fp I personally find somewhat fickle after a back toss whereas I can guarantee a back toss into s.fp > demon flip > blah. Plus the single hit from j.mp deals as much as a jab.

When I play comps I tend to stick to solidly reliable methods of dealing damage. I agree that damage should be grabbed where possible, but I also like to grab that damage via the most reliable methods possible.

Now its most definitely a skill thing with me. I’ve whiffed a lot of follow up c.fps after a j.mp from back toss and as a result lost a sizable chunk of damage dealt AND screwed up a mix up game. s.fp for me. Or tatsu, or in some cases mp palm.

Regardless, we’re all pretty much getting to the dive kick mix-up which I have to say, is fantastic. I’ve genuinely messed with some good players over here with this trick and like reasoned mentioned, it leads into another palm combo and potential dizzy. And if they get wise to the dive kick follow-up and block high? Grab.

The 1) answer from Reasoned is what I was looking for, if in fact the opponent has much less time to react to the mix up, then its worth it, I’ve been srk after the grab, sfp flip mix up, or simply they jumped away some times, so if it really prevents them from reacting to the mix up, then its worth learning, thanks a lot.

Thanks for the vids Shogun, I play way more defensive than you (cr.f is such an amazing anti air that I abuse it a lot) but your vids are really good, your vid vs viper was quite helpful since I don’t fight her much and don’t know quite well how to face her, and to see the j.mp cr.hp used in combat, together with reasoned explanation, motivates me and I wll give it a try, so please keep them coming, thanks again.

Well I’ve testing it a lot, this is the best way I’ve found to do it consistently, if any one can do it any better pls tell me. Excuse the pretty basic explanation but I’m no expert at all:

-Do the back throw grab, then hold the jump diagonal towards your falling enemy.
-Gouken will do the jump inmediately after the grab animation ends. Then when Gouken jumps, hit the mp as soon as Gouken’s head appears to be hitting against the top of the screen, yeah think as him hitting the roof XP
-then the cr.hp . I use to have problems linking the flip after the cr.fp, best thing I can say, do the fb motion of the flip inmediately after the cr.fp hits.

I can do a one hit j.mp buffering it inmediately after the jump starts, but it doesn’t combo that way, a pity. I’ve tried this only vs ryu in training, I don’t know if this works or not with other characters.

Shogun big thanks for the cross up vids in the other thread, it makes quite obvious that I’m not taking full advantage of the cross up posibilities of the flip.

streetfighterdojo.com: Gouken

Just a quick FYI that I finally have the “Gouken” page at streetfighterdojo.com up.

http://streetfighterdojo.com/sf4/characters/gouken.html

I will be adding more as I screen more vids and more footage gets added to the net.

BIG BIG BIG BIG thanks! I love the site but it was useless for me without Gouken vids, really thanks a lot, I have a tournament this weekend so this comes just in time :woot:

I’ve been waiting for this! The dojo is a great resource with all the existing match-up videos already and it just got better with this addition. Many thanks!

mad props on this, been waiting for it to get updated.

NO doubt…just remember that in many cases the crossups can be negated with even a small movement forward or whatever…I have more success with the Close Mk>Light Demon Flip more than anything else…but the Standing Fierce>MK Demon Kick while facing right is a universal crossup…

Are you the one the manages this site? If so, thank you very much for your hard work, it’s a great source for videos.

I’d like to add that I won’t be uploading any more Gouken vids - at least not for a while. I have pretty much given him up in favor of Ryu. I may play him as a counter-pick against Seth in a tournament, who I think he has a huge advantage over, but right now I’m a Ryu main.

Sorry Gouken guys, but my faith in him is almost gone.

Sadly I’m in the same boat.

^^^ LOL

Yall gave up on the Old Man …wow…

Pretty big change from when you used to flash on guys who would come in here and trash Gouken. :lame:

How funny, for me it’s been the opposite. I totally slept on him for a while, but in the last month or so my opinion of him has really gone up.
