Another match against a tournament Player. He is pretty solid and you have to be really careful in your decisions. He made a lil trouble although his main isnt Rufus xD.

You should use s.hp instead of cr.hp whenever comboing into EX Palm if possible because it does 20 more damage and has less pushback. Also it’s safe on block so if they block you don’t have to cancel into hado or it’s your ass.
Ladies and gentlemen, here are my first videos posted up on Youtube. All of these are ranked matches, except for when I specify in the details they are not. I hope you enjoy them, and most of all, find them useful in terms of match-ups and overall strategy.

In Mad 8, vs that Akuma, you should not have done that Kongo at the end of the first round. He was too random for you to have a read on him, you were guessing. Don’t guess Kongo unless you’re sure it’s gonna hit. He could have done empty jump mash demon and killed you. The risk is too high there.
In your first video vs Abel you’re holding up like a madman. This is an extremely punishable habit - shotos can whiff a throw and then DP you on the way down still.
MAd N FluEnz vs The Rynge - 0:52 you get a backthrow and don’t ultra. You could have killed him. Unless you were specifically trying to improve your resets and not playing to win this game this was a huge error. Also he kept EX Messiah-ing your resets. You could have just been doing hk tatsu and getting meter and 185 damage off every backthrow, unless you really think him wasting that meter was worth the damage.
After a jump-in you follow up with jabs. There’s not much reason to do that. Either do s.mp for frame advantage, s.hp to be +0 and get time to hit-confirm into EX palm on hit, or cr.hp xx fireball/demon flip (rarely demon flip). Gouken is +0 on jabs, he has no mixups off of them that are good unless you can condition them to block with kongos. Even then they can pretty much jump backwards for free unless you tag them on the way down.
ALDOES vs MAd N FluEnz- Good reactions on punishing the turn punches. I posted in the matchup thread that far s.hp stuffs turn punch cold and combos into sweep because it’s counterhit. This is very good vs better opponents where you can’t just sit there waiting for them to do the one move you want to punish. You also had some good kongos that I could tell weren’t hail mary’s.
You have some good AAs with j.mp and your combos are fine but none of your opponents tech backthrow well so you’re gonna run into a wall against better opponents unless you have more offense than that. Also you need to practice backthrow -> full ultra so you can do it in your sleep with one hand behind your back. When hitting that ultra is all that stands between you and 1st place at a tourney you gotta make sure you hit it, especially since you’re gonna be tired and nervous. If you can’t hit it in casual online matches that’s a problem.
Where’s the Ibuki match… LOL. I know… it’s going to be added as an edit!
man…shut up lol. But yes It IS ADDED via EDIT lol.
On all those points I agree for the most part. I generally hate going from backthrow to ultra because of its easiness. I do the resets when I know I can beat the opponent with it. I do hold up a lot, and this is being worked on. I like to do the jabs after a jump-in to get the opponent to react with a special move. Then I can frame trap him, though this can only be done once or twice during a match. And that kongo to end the match against the Akuma player was an an educated guess because I saw that he did not demon flip, besides I didn’t kongo a lot (I generally don’t). I still need some work done in order to improve my Gouken. But people who tech back throws do not bother me, half the time I land it I am expecting them to tech. And some cases I get a backthow in because I am trying to defend myself against my opponents throw.
Nice matches MAdNFluEnz, I think you got away with a lot of unsafe palms. I noticed you make really good use of J.mp and at least one instance j.hp. Solid playing. lol @ TAP happy Rog though, was he trolling?
Not sure if he was trolling just to see if I could come up with a solution. If that was true then why didn’t he just do some other annoying strategy after I KO’d him the first round? Ah well, haven’t crossed paths with that guy in a long time.
Yeah I do tend to throw out unsafe palms. An attribute I need to change, that’s for sure. But I just love the pressure, or intimidation factor, a blocked palm gives. That match against INF3rNo’s Ibuki, at 1:42 that palm was pretty damned safe and it scared him off for a bit. Either way bro, I am liking all the constructive criticism from everyone. That was another reason why I wanted the videos posted.
yea, I raised that point because in part because it was a bad tendency of mine before. It’s nice to deal some pressure/be on the offensive even if it’s not goukens strong point.

Bullcat’s Gouken is the last match in this set.
At 11:34 Bullcat should have been mashing the shut outta all the kick buttons. I think the Gflip kick would have come out and snuffed the Ultra, thus creating the possibility of a corner combo. He didn’t use cr.fp as an anti-air enough when she jumped. But that’s just me. I would have played that match similarly…though a bit more deviously.
On a side note, I am LOVING the cl.st.mp pressure! Wow, I cannot wait to get into training mode to test out how each characters takes the attack. Great match, and thanks for the posting howling! Good looking out.
You might wanna check out viperRX’s channel, he has many gouken AE vids, you can see lots of new properties in action.
Bullcat playing uncharacteristically agressive.
Nah, it wouldn’t have worked, he was already committed to slide. Even if he had dive kicked he’d have still eaten ultra as he was too far to hit meaty and didn’t time it to be a safejump.
Not even Bullcat is taking advantage of all of Gouken’s buffed properties, though seeing cl.MP get some use is good.
Viper, just watched your vid vs that Adon. You definitely take advantage of more of Gouken’s buffs than a lot of other players I see.
i’m excited for ae - haven’t played super 4 in a bit but i want to get some more gouken loving in soon!
Oh yeah, Viper’s use of cl.mp is very promising. I need more time at FFA for getting some training in. I have a nasty tendency to use SSFIV tactics and knowledge whenever I get a match in lol. I think I might have to get there in the early morning to enter the lab. Though that WILL cost more money. Dammit CAPCOM, announce the release date of AE already. We know it probably late May early June, OUT with it already! Thanks for yet another video posting howling.
heh just looked at all of vipers AE gouken vids. Some really nice stuff. Its just getting me more excited to take him in training mode myself. Lots of stuff I want to try out and mess with plus I need to get the new counter setup in my head!! I know thats going to be fucking us all up when we first play AE.
Capcom captivate is tuesday. even though the trailer was leaked already, im thinking it will be officially released tueday and we might get an official release date for AE lol.
Hey fellas,
Its been awhile since I came on this forum yet alone posted anything. Figured I’d post some vids of some matches I had awhile back. Hope you guys enjoy it. As always critique the shit out of me its all good
