Gouken Videos

No, in teh AE vid the cross up hits a standing Guile. In Super I’m 99% certain Standing FP xx Tatsu whiffs. I never use Tatsu vs Guile so I’m just curious.

This specifically:

I just don’t want to wait 8 hours to try it myself :stuck_out_tongue:

That combo works in SSF4 on Guile I believe.

S.hp/cr.hp xx hk tatsu doesn’t work because of the reel animations, but other moves into hk tatsu work fine in Super on a standing opponent.

Bleh ok. Thanks. I’m still hoping USS will respond or someone with access to AE can verify his claim that tatsus hit low now…

Ill check out all the combinations with cancellable normals into tatsu on standing and crouching opponents with small hitboxes(guile included too )

Thanks. You’ve been incredibly helpful so far. I think the only thing most Gouken users want to know is if Ryu does cr.lk on your wakeup and you EX tatsu, does it hit? That will pretty much answer everything.

Just put together a compilation of safejump setups that I could think of for Gouken.

Let me know if there are any I missed. You can replace j.hp for j.mk and j.lk in the corner

Just wanted to give you a standing ovation on this and your mix-up/reset videos. :clapdos:

Other than DF-dive kick, safe-jumping, along with incorporating mix-up styles similar to those in your other videos were things that I’m definitely lacking in my game, and using them has leveled me up and definitely put a more “random edge” on how I approach my match-ups.

Much appreciated man. :china:

shenanigan of the week:

opponent crouching, hp fb, fadc, back throw ultra.

also works by doing cr. hp, hp fb, fadc.

bah-hahahahah I’d be so pissed lol

believe me, it works more than it should.

they see the fb going up and they are unsure if they should block it, but by that time they should be teching already.

My Name is IAM and I approve this message. Added to the Vortex Section! This is where the meta game lies!

There is no use!

capture

i got some replays which id like to share with you guys, can anyone help me capture them through the replay channel on live? would be greatly appriciated

nice video. too bad it doesn’t work on the characters you really want to lock down, like Abel, Bison and Akuma

i’ve been using these ideas for a few days now but good players will avoid them no matter what, which ends up making them unreliable most of the time. got me past 3000 pp and 6000 bp for a while.

one thing to point out is that mistimed dive kicks or jump medium-kicks that hit airborne players(they tend to jump to avoid any shenanigans after a knockdown) will put you in a position in which almost everything they do will be in their favor unless you have meter for EX-DF’s, EX-tatsu’s or EX-parry’s.

I don’t mean this condescendingly, and though you’re right, 7/10 times in that scenario (I’ve been in it myself), you’re just better off blocking.

I know it’s one thing that most Gouken players are probably used to, but I feel blocking is far more underestimated these days than it should ever be.

Opponents can’t jump out of safe jump set ups, if they are able to jump out its just being done wrong. Dive kick should always hit jumpers on wake up.

You can safe jump Bison all Damn day, same as Abel if he has EX time your dive kick to hit just above his knees and use o.s. forward throw to beat EX roll. The delayed timing helps you avoid EX throw active frames. Most Abels use EX roll and os grab beats that everytime, mix that with os cr. Roundhouse if he starts back dashing. You can punish bisons teleport, and headstomp pretty easily once you catch the timings. If he has EX use cr. fp > hado as your primary block string, if you aren’t going to risk doing anything else. Other than that, you can beat his normal reversals with frame traps mostly involving mp and hado. O.S. EX Tatsu also bea’s EX Scissor and PC on his wake. If he EX head stomps on his wake, you have time to walk under and punish his recovery with whatever, react to EX Devils Reverse accordingly.

Its hard as hell to beat Bison and Abel at a high level without abusing safe jumps and cross ups on them, and it’s even harder. Unless the opponent allows you to zone them, Gouken is better off being on offense imo.

Akuma- stuff his srk on wake up with dive kick or cross up lk and punish his teleport if you see it per whiff confirm (Thanks Raun). Alter this with faux safe jumping to bait the srk, or whatever you do to set up throw. Or, you can use EX Flip and be right in his face for instant offense. You can net cross up and everything from this, and Gouken is invincible for 25 FRAMES! This shit is very useful for the offensive minded Gouken.

Learn his Demon Flip. The timings are key. Save your meter to EX Tatsu his DF bullshit. EX Tatsu beats up front options, and blocking, kongo, dashing out beats his late non meaty options.

Akuma’s srk beats the frame traps, so just randomly stop block strings to see if he’s mashing reversal. If he is, then he gets punished for free. If he’s not a masher, that means he’s a crouch techer, and you handle them accordingly.

Don’t feel power less when he knocks you down. EX Tatsu beats his meaty jump in options. Learn the timing and how to punish it. J. mp beats his DF in the air just like Gouken, possible Shin Sho but easy Denjin follow up.

Get a timing on his air hados and dash forward to get under him to punish his recovery.

Get a timing on his ground hados and GF over to punish him.

I agree partially when it comes to abel. You should pressure him on every chance you get, but you can give him a hard time just playing footsies. Most gouken normals are better than abels.
Can’t say the same thing for bison though.

Indeed.

Most Bisons I play use cr. lk, A LOT. Sometimes that shit is just a block and tech fest and when he gets happy and starts looping and frame trapping, EX Kongo his ass lol.

Nifty trick I saw desora using and I’m stealing:

 • lv1 focus attack is 0 on block. people will try forward-throwing you.

if you dash-in and do ex DF, if they try to throw you, you will have time to dive kick them into combo.

if they jump, do an invincible move, you will probably be safe and will maybe be also able to hit them with something.

 • lv2 is +6. make them know trying to throw in that situation you is a bad idea.

cr. hp will beat people using throw option select, more than that, it will catch anything non-invincible except, obviously, blocking. make sure not to make it very tight, give them them 1 or 2 frames so you get the ch.
Since the option select fails, people tend to either jump straight, throw or try a reversal.

EX Flip is beast.

i find it funny that towards the end of the 1st round of the 1st video viperRX jumps and gets smack by the jumping guile and then viperRX JUMPS AGAIN and wins the match. Fearless jump for the win hehe

I guess i wasn’t clear enough. My dive kicks do hit jumpers, but they tend to wake up just as i land from the dive kick. Is there something i am doing wrong? Maybe i’m just not reacting to it.

Also, won’t bisons just use psycho crusher to avoid dive kicks? Because i’ve been hit out of them when the dive-kick hit the tail-end of the move.
