Patience is key, You don’t need to neutral jump against Blanka, cr. fp beats his jump ins. For the non meaty ambiguous cross ups like @ :23 seconds walk or dash under and punish/avoid. You can kongo it too, but it’s not necessary when he does that. St. Cl. Hk beats it as well.
I don’t think I can ever stress this enough. Hard Knock Down’s > safe jump oki/reversal stuff is the key to almost all of Gouken’s match ups, especially this one. Gouken can’t beat Blanka in a high paced match. Knock him down, slow him down, and take away his options. The only time I ever struggle against Blanka is when I go away from this and allow him to dictate the match. If you slow him down and try to keep him in wake up situations I think Gouken has a better chance of winning, b/c you’ll be taking away his game of abuse and forcing him to make mistakes.
If he comes forward he will mostly slide, jump, or hop.
-A whiffed/blocked slide nets you an easy cr. roundhouse.
-AA Cr. FP is king! 2-in-1 with lp hado to frame trap him when he lands (if he doesn’t have ex) This sets up your kongo too, just use it wisely.
-Hop- can be beaten consistently by everything but far st. lp and far. st. hp. If telegraphed, you can sweep that bitch before he recovers. It hit’s pretty good too b/c of the active frames. If you are really unsure, just spam standing mp and he’ll either be stuffed by far. or cl. st. mp/ worse case scenario he’ll block and you can just continue to frame trap your way to safety.
You should be able to back throw a blocked rainbow roll without him teching iirc. As fas as his up ball don’t even bother grabbing him, punish his recovery. You can focus attack if he tries it then dash out to punish him.
I normally save kongo to interrupt his block strings when he shows a pattern or for just every now and then to show him I’ll do it once or twice on his jump ins so I can bait more jump ins to hit with cr. fp.
It’s not a reason to use a lot of EX moves against Blanka outside of punishing with combos, FADC’ing to safety, using EX Flip for the occasional quick wake up, after you train him not to use slide when he’s moving forward EX Hado can work pretty well in Goukens zoning strategy.
I always spam cr. lp when I’m not doing any thing else to show them that I will stuff their rush attacks. So it takes away that speed factor that they try to beat you with. You can do this pre-emptively before they even do the move. Spam a couple and watch their reaction. A lot Blanka’s try to roll slide at the beginning of the match, so I almost always spam cr. lp at the beginning of the match (some Blanka’s will try to counter that with slide to be beat cr. lp at the beginning of the match but it’s very very risky for them to do so since it will lead to his ass getting vortexed off the jump.
Honestly, I just look for the knock down and I rush him down, I just do to him what he’d like to do to me, I stay on his ass until he figures a way out (which the only decent wake up reversal he has is EX Roll).
I rarely EX GFlip on wake up against Blanka b/c of that damn electricity on the way down. It’s better to just block and tech vs. him and save the meter. If you think he’s baiting EX Flip, then you can be crafty and use HK Gflip and use the distance and one of it’s options to create some space.
Oh the Blanka Hate Mail i’ve recieved during my day!!! Lol
