DF Grab was in the first place a reset into stun tool … So that it was not a big deal to not be able to continue the vortex! Now this move is pretty much dead …

I’m with Jaether, we are never going to be Akuma, and always following up a flip throw with a crossup gets you nowhere.
The crossup is not a safejump and can be auto-correct reversaled.
This game is all about breaking crouch techs/stand techs, of which we have very few ways to do so, and then translating it into damage.
The lack of opportunities comes from a couple issues.
1: We have no way to capitalize after an overhead that can be focus backdashed since it is single hit. May as well just take that 80 damage.
2: We do not have an effective method of comboing from a low that does not put us in danger of being punished. This allows people to stand tech nearly at will. c.lk xx lp palm is -4 on block, c.mp xx fireball is reversal bait or focus crumple bait, so all you have is sweep, which if blocked, pushes you out and ends real pressure. Comboing from a low into another knockdown is what allows for pressure.
3: We have no frame traps outside of cl.st.mp. This makes it hard to break crouch tech. Even if you get a counter hit on something you don’t really get time to hit confirm and use something good (like EX palm), you have to throw a fireball to be safe and then use two bars to fadc for more damage (assuming your frame trap worked).
In essence you need to be able to open people up for damage cause at high levels, the chances you will get to land a hp xx EX palm are amazingly small. +3 cr.lp will be nice for when Gouken is being pressure, but it’s not going to turn him into an offensive force. Still nothing will combo from low unless you can do cr.mp > cr.lp and I don’t think it has the range for that. I’d also check if st.hk > cr.lp has the range as that would be really nice.
The “vortex” is not really a vortex no matter how much you guys want to call it that. It’s a safe jump and nothing else. You don’t get a demon flip throw into another setup for more, you don’t get a palm that breaks armor, doesn’t hesitate in the air when activated, and allows you to 4 frame safe jump. You don’t have the normals or walk speed of Akuma to keep the pressure on if your dive kick is blocked, able to frame trap into a hard knockdown or throw into another set up.
We simply have a a safe jump divekick after a hard knockdown and that it is. If I had my choice I would buff his zoning game. Do something with fireballs, make regular tatsu useful, make lp palm not punishable on block. Give him things to get people off of him.

flip grab branches from gflip and is used as a mix up tool in or out of vortex, it creates bait scenarios vs opponents wake up and is particularly strong in the rights hands. if your waiting to land it at the end of some cute reset setup you will ultimately be in jeopardy as I’m sure you already know as this move can be low pro’d, reversalled, dashed, even kongo’d to whiff
that being said gief Abel makoto and others hate waking up to this you can take it to the lab and hopefully apply some of this and start using it with a more open mind, I know it will help your game, for myself flippin all over w dive kick pressure and the like conditions opponents so I can pull off gflip throw for match win vs full meter shotos after forcing them to respect my ambiguous attacks on their wake up.

Made this video showing off some stuff from KBT’s mod. Most of this is based on simple frame data/cancelability changes, so it should work in the “real” USF4 build.
If you can’t watch: Can combo into ultra 2 from anywhere with c.MP using 3 bars of meter. c.MP in general is amazing since you can do FADC combos with it. fst.lk->fireball is very meaty on juggle.

Have you been reading any of my posts… when I say I would like for Gouken to be able to safe jump after landing DF Throw… I’m not concerned about Akuma… But outside of GF Throw Gouken can keep you on your back and pressure you per a knock down loop/Vortex. Accept it.
Dive kick is active until the ground. You can user it to land early right before 3 frame dps, land to stuff or block anything else, OR you can aim for the back shoulder like you would ONI to stuff reversals and make people whiff.
We use his tools differently so naturally we’d want different buffs to him… but you gotta quit the hate just b/c.

I have not posted here in a long time but have been an avid reader of the SRK Gouken forums since the beginning.
I have to agree with Reipin Pillage. Not necessarily that he is correct in every technical detail regarding Gouken, but correct in that their are two people in this forum who significantly diminish the quality, clarity and diversity of the discussions that occur here.
They achieve this through a combination of bullying, employing logical fallacies, and presenting confusing and/or irrelevant information. I think the two of you mean well, but you seem to be incapable of carrying on a logical, rational debate without the involvement of your emotions.
At a certain point you have to ask yourself, if other people keep having the same reaction to you, maybe it has more to do with you than with them.
I am super excited about Gouken’s Ultra buffs. Lets hope the buff list keeps expanding with each new build as we get closer to launch!
I can only assume the blank posts are those two whining and carrying on about how amazing they are, while telling me how wrong I am.

Since both Cammy and Akuma are getting new ex follow-ups options on their flips, wouldn’t it be nice if Gouken could EX Tatsu from Gflip?
c.lp isn’t as strong as we think it is. We can’t do anything to confirm from a jab beside another jab unless you want to spend four bar. Our c.lk being five frame in my opinion is more of a problem. Though with the combination with getting a solid good reversal, I think Gouken at least got the “get off me” move that he needed badly.
Watching the new location test matches though. I’m not sure what we can actually do against some of the buffed character and new character. Gouken still appears rather weak.
