You can punish his normal lunge punch with a forward throw, a back throw will be too slow. Alternately you could try st.cl.mk xx lp.palm.
After his EX lunge punch you can play the guessing game. Low counter will beat his c.lk, EX counter will beat c.lk and his dp, EX tatsu will beat his throw attempt or a rejump dive kick but whiff on his c.lk. Best bet is to do a delayed crouch tech with c.mk. You’ll block his c.lk or srk, tech a throw, and stuff a rejump and this will not cost you meter. Same timing you would use as after you block a Ken Hurricane kick that allows you to tech and avoid getting uppercutted.
Remember his shoulder through fireballs is not armor breaking, mp counter stops that.
I’ve found no good way to safe jump Yun AND option select. All of his dps seem to have different properties or something. lk will whiff on crouchers, mk gets stuff by everything, HK seems like a one stop solution, but when that doesn’t work you just go to EX and it’s like Jesus descends and blesses Yun.
It’s a tough match-up. Did you try safe jump with an OS of EX tatsu? That should take care of his dp and backdash. I’m usually messing up my OS in the jump in. The simple idea is still not clicking for me, after 2 plus years with this game. I don’t see there being a go to solution yet though. I think for now, the best bet is to keep the distance because his shoulder attack is the only thing that can get through a gouken barrage. Zone.
Without meter, Yun is a bit easier but he builds it very quickly.
Side note…I’ve been messing around with Yun and he is a nice diversion from the intense focus gouken needs. Easy two hit combos, fast, can jab out of anything, many unpunishable moves. I suck with Yun of course, since jab to anything combos might as well call for me to write a theory on quantum linearity. Yun is going to have a hell of a time with Blanka though, I think. Electricity eats lunge punches and dive kicks.

nj hp seems to be really good against Yun. It seems like everything Yun does takes him right to the perfect range to get slammed by a nj hp into pain train and if he jumps you get the knockdown.
is the only punish for a blocked short srk our cl.st.mk x lp palm? those two are so damn good, why cant everyone be that braindead good, the game would be way more fun.
So far , and this is with no training room yet there is about a ten degree range if you make a “V” starting at the twins shoulders going thru their heads and *continuing out *towards space(like my math prof used to say!) This small area is where any jumping kick attack needs to take place j lk, j mk, j rh this varies with other characters but for them its a ten degree spot just above their heads thats my stuff zone for them, be it although the narrowest of any character (save dee jays flash kick), it is there nonetheless lets try figuring out where to go after we stuff those bitches!!!
Use EX Tatsu for your OS, he can’t back dash from it. The timing has to be spot on though. This is what should happen.

-lk dp - hits in front twice > Gouken Punishes
-mk dp - get’s stuffed by dive kick > continue combo
-hk dp - Yun sails over your head, I guess you can punishes with by dashing up > ? or using mp palm with good reaction
-ex dp - Hits in front and he lands right next to you on the opposite side so Gouken can punish

If you want to get your dive kick to activate as soon as possible after GF, plink it. For those who use controllers, just press hk and lk at the same time and your dive kick will activate early as possible, hitting them in the feet. There are some cases where you can do this after Hard Knock Down and the dive kick will whiff all together for a faux safe jump, but it’s Hard as hell to do consistently.
Other than that, you can just do a well timed jumping in attack and get the same results minus the GF Dive Kick to remove the dive kick timing difficulty. The timing is still tight though.
Knock em down, safe jump and cross up all day, that’s the only way to excel when zoning breaks down, Vortex them.
I wish I had more time to play… Ah well has anyone figured this bullshit out with Kongo?

I’m thinking if you think you’ll get hit in the head, then do hp kongo or if you think they are hitting deep for kongo then use mp kongo. Most meaties hit deep so naturally you should be able to mp kongo all of that etc.
Any thoughts?? Also I’ve been crouching and use mp Kongo at point blank to reduce his hit box with a little better success rate using mp kongo.

He can only beat the Option Select with an Ultra (edit: and EX Dash, you can beat EX Dash with os backgrab), but the Ultra doesn’t beat the safe jump. ROFL… Knock em down and have all the fun you want if they don’t block.

My lord these new mappings are killing me lol. Now we have a 1 in 3 chance to kongo dive kicks. Thing is though. During jump ins if certain hitboxs are big they can cover both the kongo area of Med and high thus letting you choose either one. Ive had that happen with some jump ins. We really have to do our homework and look at the hitboxs for our opponents normals and specials moves. Sigh… FUCK YOU CAPCOM! Nerf our kongo and damage lol. WHY WHY WHY!
As for Yun… I took him in the lab to fully understand how his back thrust move that goes through projectiles work. The timming is NOT hard for yun at all. Mp and Hp are pretty easy to use at mid range standing from gouken. Lets not get starting on EX. Freaking guys Hazonto on crack lol. Now if you got the reaction time you can MP kongo, Sweep(Set up vortex), CMP(Buffer DF or LP palm lol) Clk or im sure some others. Or you can just focus attack it.
I was doing this to Mp and Hp backthrust. I forgot to mess around with EX. EX hits Twice so no Focus . You can still Mp kongo it. I need to mess around and c if reaction sweep works. This move is the only move keeping Yun getting in your face besides him jumping at you and dive kicking. Im working to dismantle it lol.
yeah i know i grabbed a few ex dashes, but then you leave the door open for backdashes, i don’t think theres a fullproof way to pin him down which is annoying, then theres the wakeup invincibility…
^ Yeah, it’s not one solid answer for those broken bastards. Worse case scenario if you OS Grab and he back dashes out he still can’t punish you, he just made a good guess and escaped… at least he can’t punish you for it.
I haven’t been playing a lot so I haven’t ran into someone abusing the wake up glitch yet.
