Gouken, Make him a Master, SSF4 Changes

Need to learn to play SF … mashing jab unless your boxer is stupid and doesn’t get you out of anything at high level.

Ex Tatsu should hit crouching characters. It’s not much of a wake up otherwise. He should also be able to combo into EX Tatsu from crouching jab. Crouching jab should also suck less.

Honestly? The only thing I can ask for is ONE special move that can combo from any cancellable normal, near that move’s max range. Preferably jab hadou or jab and strong Senku.

That’s it. I’m disgusted that a move that does less than an SRK can’t be comboed unless Gouken gets in super close - y’know, something he’s not generally meant to do to often.

Some of the same posters that are here saying Gouken is perfectly fine as-is are up in other character tweak threads such as Bison demanding shit like getting his loketest psycho crusher back… :lame:

Reasonable suggestions:

? Give his jumping MP the same properties as Ryu’s, none of this “you have to time it so it hits once for juggle state” nonsense. Give him the secondary animation (no cut scene) ultra off of this.

? Give him at least one combo he can hit confirm into, or at least a normal besides fierce punch he can reasonably cancel a special from. Gouken’s combos look killer until you realize nobody really gets hit by jump-in fierce or dive kick in high level play, whereas a character like Ryu basically has anything, including ultra, off of a crouch jab.

? Tatsu hits low. At least make EX tatsu hit low. Currently one of the most irrelevant specials in the game.

? Fix the glitch where palm (any strength) gets hit by yoga fire during it’s invincible frames.

? Fix the demon flip crossup in the corner glitches.

Lol, no. I see Gouken’s combo into tatsu at least once per match. That makes it better than Spin Punch, running bear grap, psycho crusher, Soul Throw, up flame and possibly even Sakura’s Fireball.

I’m not saying it shouldn’t hit crouchers, I’m just pointing out that you’re exaggerating a little.

You’re other suggestions seemed reasonable.

His demon flip crossups in the corner are his strongest mixup game … your joking about removing them right? … So Gouken goes from being scary when cornered to being scary nowhere?

General fixes IMHO worth it to see.

cr.lk +4 frames on hit, +1 frame on block.
cr.mp +2 frames on hit, -1 frame on block.
j.mp fix it for ryu style juggle fun.

Are you saying Tatsu scales on itself or are you saying that is the damage of the tatsu in a “3” hit combo where Tatsu makes up the third “hit” (i.e. Jump fierce, st.fp xx tatsu or level 3FA xx dash tatsu).

Cause Tatsu doesn’t scale itself when it was the only action you did :looney:

And cr.mp is able to cancel, it’s just that a fireball won’t hit off of it.

The main motivator behind a 3 frame jab for Gouken is to stave off up-close molestation and grabs. Because of Gouken’s sluggish lp and lk startup, his attempts to fend off close in attacks can be very fickle and often see his lp/lk attacks get stuffed during start-up. Sure, we can backdash and tech but this isn’t always workable.

Gouken’s game does largely revolve around zoning and space control and perhaps the idea of removing some of his in-close weaknesses might skew the design of the character. Nonetheless, I think a 3 frame jab would be an interesting change and it would certainly buy Gouken some welcome breathing room in many situations.

Also just to mention…

His Kongoshin (all forms, upper, lower, EX) has a 1 frame start up. Pretty huge advantage in many rush-down situations. Which again I think plays into the whole “get away from me! I prefer to attack you from a distance!” design he has.

That’s faster than Ryu’s SRK (3 frame startup).

This is why people who don’t play Gouken and say he’s “fine” based on their theory fighter techniques need to stay out of this thread.

The “joke” is that it’s impossible to cross-up a cornered opponent with demon flip dive kick int he left corner (unless the guy moves forward slightly, for whatever reason), while it’s impossible NOT to cross-up with it in the right corner.

all gouken needs is his tatsu to connect on everyone in the cast crouching.

and more hitstun on and less pushback on his standing close MP. for link purposes. he does have st. mp into cr. lp but its a one framer, and then people can duck his tatsu… so its WAY too hard to confirm it.

having a 3 frame jab is dumb and i dont want to hear about it anymore, it would open him up to links the he really shouldnt have. (non counterhit close FP into crouching jab= he doesnt need that. he would be way too good up close…

also a target chain (lolz) cr. MP to standing fierce kick haw haw!!! cant get anymore creative than that.

also, if they made his dive kick any faster that would be too good… some people would be able to against projectiles ON reaction to EX dive kick into big time hurt. that would just be to good, against certain members of the cast.

and yes, now that i think about it, reversals breaking his auto guard and parries are kind of dumb. armor breaking moves like blanka ball should still break it and stuff tho.

OMG BAD matchup up…no… i think offline blanka vs gouken is fine. just buffer ultra and if you see a ball coming your way…well… :frowning:

the only thing ill want nerfed is his countr being able to stop cross ups i mean im hitting behind him and his arm is blocking the other way and i get countered its kinda lame.
