9 days til skyrim!
I just whiffed HK Tatsu against Hawk after a vertical jumping HP to cl. HP.
Not only does it get you punished badly, but it breaks your spirit when something totally basic fails to work.
The problem was that Hawk’s injured animation had him crouching, and so the Tatsu whiffed.
If the Tatsu is not to have a hit-box near the ground, then at least vertical jumping HP shouldn’t cause the opponent to crouch.
I used EX Tatsu against a standing Gouken (Climaxter, who destroyed me) the first hit whiffed, the second hit him in the head but didn’t suck him in. I went sailing into the air. Then I died.
Playing Gouken is like a tag-match where you’re alone and Capcom is teamed up with the opponent.
I’ve begun to sincerely dislike Gouken’s new iteration, compared to vanilla. Strong counters, deadly back-throw and respectable Flip mix-ups is what made the character. You can throw the new link combos and improved normals and nerfed LP Palm and nonsensical flashy-stuff in the trash.
I don’t even care about how good an anti-air the EX Tatsu is. The opponent can just base his jumping game on baiting that move. I was perfectly content with cr. HP - with its original damage, mind you - although they could have gotten the Kongo inputs right from the beginning and avoided the whole situation altogether.
Question: Do you counter pick?
If I recognizes someone who main Blanka and have 4000+ PP. I counter pick with either Guide or Dictator.
If I recognizes someone who main Adon and have 4000+ PP. I counter pick with T hawk
I notices when I play Gouken, people who have a bad match up will counter pick me. Not like Gouken have any good match up though, mostly just T hawk that have bad match up against Gouken realistically, though I saw a Balrog with 4000+ PP counter pick me with Dictator after lost to me once. But I’m just guessing.
I remember that. EX Tatsu is a great move but needs to be used when you are sure it will hit…so don’t throw it out so much for those crossups! On wake up, use option select df, db, df, f. If the opponent stays on your front side, you get EX Flip, if they cross over you, you get EX Tatsu. You still need to make sure they are in the air as you are waking up for the Tatsu to hit.
GGS last night. If you see me online (I play once or twice a week) send me an invite.
I don’t see the point.
I’m not learning anything about Gouken by counterpicking.
If my goal was to have th easiest win in every situation I would learn Yun.
My goal is mostly to have fun. Some match up just ain’t any fun for me in my opinion.
Laggy Blanka and adon my biggest problem. I don’t have much problem with a good connection with those but otherwise they are really annoying to play
Though I am mostly wondering if you see other people counter pick, who do they pick against you usually?
Through all my time playing i’ve seen someone counterpick me specifically as Gouken.
I’ve seen them change characters after some losses but i never think they’re trying to counter just using another character they know.
I got quite frustrated with an Oni player that didn’t know much, his normals are so good and his uppercut seems to go through everything.
You know I think I was just reading in the Oni forum that they think his normals all suck…
it can be stuffed tooth and baited for whiff on wakeup
-cr. mk needs more active frames
-cr. mp needs more hit stun so he can cancel into lk slash
-TC 2 whiffs on crouchers… WTF???
-Cr. Roundhouse needs to be 6 frames
-forward + mk has garbage range and the hit/block stun is shitty
The rest of his normals including TC 2 are so crazy!!! I want to say all of his normals are pretty much safe on block except cr. roundhouse, and he can link any and everything oexcept to cr. roundhouse.
Other than those minor set backs, Oni has some pretty impressive normals b/c they call all link to each other somehow.
If Gouken had ONI’s normals and combo options he’d instantly be upper B Tier.
Still at the end of the day, he’s just as shitty as Gouken LOL. I guess that’s why like choosing him. But the reason why he isn’t high tier has nothing to do with his normals at all. He still has some of the best normals and combo options on the game.
Just like Gouken, he suffers from some WTF options on his specials, which is a problem for both Oni and Gouken.
Oni’s normals are amazing imo. He’s got great range and he has all command normals for greater control and so many combo options. I agree with TC2 whiffing on crouhcers. It makes me mad. I haven’t delved into Oni’s playstyle much but I’m looking forward to it in 2012.
lp > b+mp > lk ground pound works on everyone crouching or not. Puts them in hard knock down… sort of his poor mans vortex b/c it doesn’t connect on everyone if you try lp/lk > lk > b+mp > lk ground pound.
His d.j. mk needs it’s hit box improved and 1-2 additional active frames as well towards the back, b/c if you don’t have it spaced just right it whiffs when you try crossing opponents up. That’s probably one of the most irritating things I’ve came across playing with him. Totally screws up many of the set ups I am used to using.
Damn Capcom… why didn’t you give Gouken Onis Combo options!!!
Gouken would be top tier if he had those kind of combo options with the damage he does. But I’ve noticed it too that a lot of oni’s stuff misses. What’s the go to air normal you use btw? It seems like Gouken has better air normals, at least on neutral jump.
Oh you should have experienced the vanilla nj.hp. I don’t think it was beaten by anything.
It seems like Gouken was much better in vanilla and not top tier still. Why did they change him to be worse?
Because Capcom wanted to pick winners and losers to make heros and villians at tournaments. Gouken was picked as a loser. It wasn’t ALL bad from vanilla to super, but ya, I prefer vanilla gouken.
Oni’s dj Lk is beast. It allows you to land on either side after the reset, dj hp and hk are very good. Nj mp can be used like Goukens nj hp, but it is no where near as good.
Edit: Fixed. I hate typing on my phone.
this isn’t so much a cause of frustration over Gouken as it is over the game itself, but I just EX flipped across the screen against a Yang who was just palming the air
and I dive-kicked down on him, but to my surprise I did not stuff the little brat, but we traded hits, and I ended up knocked down on my ass, plus a greater damage dealt to my health o_O
And what the hell is the deal with jump start-ups taking forever and a half, leaving your only universal option to be to press the back button twice, really fast?
While I appreciate Gouken’s character and the challenge you face when playing him, playing against top-tier characters who can simply abuse down-right stupid shenanigans robs the playing-experience of any enjoyment, and I feel as much of an idiot as the game sometimes - perhaps oftentimes, is idiotic
Please take that back to Capcom, Sirlin
