AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! FUCK YOU GOUKEN! YOU RETARDED OLD POS!! Why is every fucking matchup such a chore with you??? WHY? I can just mash with oni and win. fuck that shit.
and do cheap ass cross up slashes and we can’t block that shit properly online
FRUSTRATION:
I hate struggling to fight a Ken because online the lag sometimes don’t let me punish his DP, because he lands and blocks. And after a few seconds a get a major punishment because my recoveries are so freaking stupid. Air tatsu for example. Even after I’m on the ground I’m still recovering. For God’s sake. Go get some sleep or some red bull, are you tired? Do you want to take a nap? Do you want 20 more seconds to catch your breath? Did you forget your asthma inhaler? Ken can stop, pick up his cell phone, call his wife, have a sandwich and get back on time to punish me. Jesus…
Why can’t I block after I land? Why must I have more recovery frames after my flip parry?
They should make the Tatsus hit on the way down as well, then give him a reasonable amount of recovery frames once landed. Make them travel half the distance up, and spin on the way down, with the last hit that launches them across the screen happen when he lands, then recovery.
You’d still get punished hardcore for using it but it would make the timing a bit trickier.
I love Gouken, but eff me if everything doesn’t get monumental harder when lag kicks in.
TY online for making me so angry and salt laden.
Air tatsu is shit. Known fact. I’m surprised that hasn’t been addressed given how INCREDIBLY useful other air tatsu is (Ken, Ryu, Oni, Akuma)
Edit: Again, I’m left wondering, what the fuck did anyone learn from this guy?
They learned what not to do. I love the old coot, but some of the decisions they made with him just baffle me to no end.
I am actually curious what decisions baffle you. Maybe I can ponder some reasons to shed some light on it^^.
This is what Baffles me!!
And me Quotes!!!
"If Capcom gave Gouken useful links, the ability to cancel normals after 2 light attacks, and a low mix up (ex. cr. lk was +5 or 6 on hit).
Would he be broken??
And if not, the somebody please tell me why can we not have this. Almost EVERY CHARACTER has the ability to do this, it’s combo-ing 101. I appreciate his frame traps, but they also give the opponent a chance to block, b/c he can hardly hit confirm to any thing worth while without either knocking them down first, jumping in, or getting a wide open punish.
Damage Scaling is in the game for a reason, it’s no way that Gouken should be without THAT element of the game.
Almost every situation he has is unsafe, is asking for GOOD hit confirms and links really too much???
Gouken----Land 2 jabs… ahh shit, it’s Gouken I can’t do anything!, either keep jabbing or possibly let him off the hook. Bull shit!!!"
EVERY FUCKING BODY ELSE-- Land 2 jabs… ahh shit, Open his ass up!!
That is the most BULLSHIT Beyond any of the other crap that they’ve done with Gouken.
Give him the TRUE ability to open people up. That what this game is all about. He should have great links. Period. And if you showed me someone who’d turn that down for their character, I’ll show you some one who does not want to win.
Gouken’s crappy reversal options and whiff rewards, are a BIG enough weakness in his game. Punishing him by not allowing him to open people up as icing on the cake, is some pure crap.
Yet some how I’ve played with this piece of shit Character for 3 going on 4 versions of Street Fighter 4. And the sad part is, I really don’t know whether I should be proud or ashamed of myself for doing so.
Gouken’s very unique, but he still in dire need for some BASIC shit.
And fix that poor back dash for Christ Sakes.
Go Gouken!’
They learned theory fighter and then made it practical.
Pretty much this. Now I know there are some people who can wield him effectively, but in the face of many of the characters, Gouken has nothing (Mu my ass!). Reversal options are almost non-existent and extremely risky. If Capcom’s aim was to make Gouken’s fighting plan around punishing mistakes, they shouldn’t have made all of his moves have such huge drawbacks to using them. I’d say the only other character that’s worse off is T.Hawk. And he has a command grab that does big damage if he manages to get in! It sucks because Gouken is a really cool character!
I don’t mind the no jabs to whatever thing, but they shouldimprove his baiting game, give him is more solid frame traps, no increases to hitstun, but lets get some more block advantage going and maybe have demonflip be overall faster as we dont have a quick land option(or make parry land that quickly, without its air stall at certain heights).
The reason I feel they tend to be careful with how they balance Gouken is because while he has one of the weakest wakeup games, he has one of the best shenanigan defenses in the game. People sometimes forget just how powerful it is that this guy has a 1f reversal that when succesful, is unblockable, deals 150 damage(personally I’d like to see EX get our old value of 180 and the regulars 200, some more reward for the risk please) and launches them full screen. I am saddened by the whole triple heights thing(I’d like to see them take a book from mahvel, one for high, one for low and a projectile one that has him send an unblockable or maybe just high damage projectile back or no recovery or something, I’m just pondering there, that might be silly).
I do enjoy capcoms philosophy on making Gouken different from the cast(the unusual backthrow, no distant jab links, weak reversal, yet strong vs shenanigans) and I understand their fear of making him too strong. He has really strong attributes and when increased to much he will be really good. We have already seen tons of buffs in AE and lots more in 2012, greatly making up for the absence in Super, I look forward to seeing if they got the old man that bit closer to what he should be.
I wouldn’t mind the no jab to special if we could at least have a competent jab to get out or trade in even situations like against Sakura tatsu…etc.
I don’t believe he is strong vs shenanigans at all. He has strong shenanigans himself but crumbles to Blanka, Fuerte, Vega…shenanigan characters basically
Just lose a match to a yang that jumped and did d/f +mk (dive kick) I did Kongo and nothing full combo on me…
Sigh. The only reason for nerfing kongo was to make yun/yang good against him. Old-style kongo would make yun/yang (esp yun) manageable. But as is they turn it into DownBack Fighter 4.
God damn I’ve been as close as 8 BP away from B rank today and I just can’t seem to get there. I just want a shiny new badge I don’t care if I lose all my fucking points after that but instead all I get are 5 vegas in a row and I have no fucking clue how this matchup works for gouken.
… I’m just a bit peeved that I can’t achieve this stupid little goal (to get B rank) I’ve had from way back. I’ll ask questions in the Vega matchup thread once I’ve done that. lol
5 different vegas? Wow thats pretty unusual. The thing with vega is that he has an even worse wakeup than us, you need to work hard to get a knockdown on him, once he is down though, Vega crumbles like crazy to Goukens pressure.(The really bad ones give you stuff for free, like when they backflip near the corner, spam the back flip or just spam his cosmic heel, that is so delicious it’s funny. Better ones take more work of course)
Well… Not 5 different Vegas. Just 5 Vegas in a row, but 2 different players. Why didn’t I pick different opponents then, you ask? Well I’m playing from Australia, so the playerbase isn’t as big as, say, NA or Europe. And if that isn’t enough, I also play on the PC, which clearly has the least amount of players among all the platforms. So I didn’t really have a choice. They were the only players online and yea, it’s kind of sad that it’s so difficult to find opponents during off-peak times.
The problem I have with Vega is the fact that I have no idea how to deal with his wall dives. He gets one knockdown on me and wall dives on my wake up every single time and that’s usually enough to keep me down. I also probably need to start learning offensive option-selects to catch his backflip since it seems to negate my offense most of the time I manage to apply any.
On a side-note: WOOHOO! I am officially a B-rank Gouken! That totally entitles me to… Absolutely nothing. Oh well, I feel like I achieved something today as a Gouken player no matter how insignificant it may be. Funny thing is I had 1337 PP on the game that gave me my rank-up. I’m sure that totally helped me beast out the 2.4k Akuma I was facing!
Fuck Gouken!!! I want a Buffed Version NOW!!!
Haha, you’ll be saying the exact same thing come December 14th =P (day after 2012)
