Gouken Frustration Thread, Go ahead let it out!

Everyday I feel like going over to the capcom forums and telling them fuck you fuck you FUCK YOU!!! Followed by an expletive laced rant that will get nothing accomplished. I want to do it every single day.

It’s just crazy how they can’t see that something needs to be done for Gouken.

Oh, they can see it perfectly fine. They simply needed to pick a few characters to be “underdogs” for their misguided plan of making the game less balanced with the insane idea that people would enjoy tournament matches more if underdogs win. Gouken was one of their picks to be an underdog. Why? Because Fuck You, That’s Why.

Try either dashing forward and st.hk/sweep or just use mp palm and forget the 50 damage off of the lp hado. They totally screwed his mid-range - close follow ups after hado, including any viable frame traps he had off it, unless you are point blank.

EX Tatsu was a very good buff though. Too bad it has a 7 frame start up and 1,000 frame recovery.

Honestly, I can understand the nerf to kongo. We were using that shit as Anti Air and it beat everything but Air Attacks that had armor break. No need to auto correct or anything, just throw the shit out for AA and if they hit a button… WHAM… they are sent to the other side of the screen or you could FADC / Super the shit out of them. It was no way to stuff it if you timed it correctly or anything, you were just fucked. You can at least stuff a DP. Here’s where they fucked up.

What else was he exactly protecting him self with??? Tatsu has a horrible hit box and it’s slow as hell. Palm his a piece of shit, EX Palm isn’t even invincible on the first frame. He simply doesn’t have jack shit the he can just stick the hell out there… NOT EVEN 5 frames??? You can’t do shit off of EX Flip until the bastard reaches a certain height in the air. What can you really do???

At least let him knock down from jabs etc. like the rest of the Shotos. SHIT!!! I don’t ever regret maining him b/c it has taught me so much about the game… but this is the mofo who taught Ken and Ryu, who both are going to be competitive no matter what Street Fighter it is… .And you give me a weakened Gouken in SF4, and then just nerfed him from then on… He was never good in the first place. WE just made him good. It sad to say, I don’t even get mad when I lose with Gouken now. I understand that he’s just out there for the show. Joining the fight to add hype, everyone is rooting for the Old man against the young un’s. Knowing damn well, he is going to get his ass knocked out at some point. Cinderella has made it to the party, but this story doesn’t end happily ever after.

This is our legendary Master… some one with not 1 damn good reversal.

No for lp and lk. IIRC cr.mp > lp palm would work though.

God, the hit/blockstun on regular dive kick sucks.

The thing is, your safe jump is just not attacking. It’s not like Gouken can do something else. Empty jump DP FADC Ultra.

I can’t feel sorry for other people. Just because people didn’t properly punish a whff kongo is not my fault. They chose to throw when they could do so much more.

I know what they attempted with the kongo nerf though, they attempted to make it be what we thought it would be so that when someone empty jumped they could punish with anything instead of a throw. I remember sometimes someone would empty jump and come down and attack with a cr.mp and get kongoed all the same.

You can land jab > palm/tatsu/jab string out from it if you hit below the shoulders. Other than that if you time it to hit them in the feet you can land anything from it, but that almost always requires a knock down, usually hard.

yea, I’m looking for something off of a fake crossup, but that would hit to high I guess. Good to know though, maybe I can make something of that or cl. mp when hitting at the feet. I gotta admit I neglect this move.

yeah. It’s good to do when you are playing charge characters and they expect you to GF Dive kick so they can continue to block low. If you catch them doing it, switch up to this one hit them in the feet and you can blow them up for it. It’s good for that Flash Kickin ass Guile player that is betting that you aren’t going to try and GF throw him on his wake up, but still want’s to give up flash kick whiff so they just say fuck it and block down back.

After cr. round house you can pixel walk and do your ambigs though, and they are all safe to do vs 4 frame reversals.

What are you faking your cross up with?? Dive Kick I suppose… The thing that has been most effective for me aside from safe jumping, is faux safe jumping directly to EX Flip at point blank. If avoids almost every reversal on the game. You can also throw that EX Flip out there after that high reg. dive kick, since most opponents will try to punish or mash on you after they see the hit stun is jack shit. Unless some one KNOWS you are going to do it, it’s hard for them to react to it and not get punished since you have 25 frames to decide what you want to do. I max punish DP’s and damn near everything with that gimmick.

Yea I was trying to fake crossup with dive kick. My idea was that I will sometimes crossup tickflip my oppnent into oblivion usually ending in multiple knockdowns, 1 being a df grab another being something like a sweep. Eventually they expect a cross up, but at the apex I dive kick instead of regular j.mk.

I see. I have a set up for that too, but I use the GF dive kick to get into it.

Each character has a certain way you can cross them up from up close using St./Cr. FP > mk GF and from far way, cr. lk/mp hk GF.

For example: Ryu and Ken would be cr. fp > lk GF to land in front, or cr. fp > mk GF to land in back or cross up. If you sense they want to mash during your loop to hit you out of GF, you substitute with EX and watch them fly through the air so you can punish how you see fit.

If I want to land in front I’d just use lk instead of mk, or mk instead of hard kick, but you still retain the options out of the flip, as well as your hit stun. Short jumping with d+mk has it uses though. In a lot of those situations where I think Gouken is going to lose out, I just say fuck it and EX Flip right in their face. It can also yield cross ups and fake cross ups depending on the timing of the dive kick if they just stand there and block or throw whiffs while I’m invincible :).

It’s such a shame, he doesn’t have a good non EX reversal to match.

It does scale. Inflicting gray damage to an opponent and hitting an opponent in focus state is a different thing.

It does grey damage now, so it scales the damage of shin sho to something like 80% iirc.
