Is this all ranked or otherwise? …
If you go on a slide of more than 5 games I would suggest switching up to endless or team to lessen the drop in poInts.
Okay, I´m gonna say this out loud: Gouken is better off attacking in this game. I can´t quite put my finger on why, but he is for me.
Even though his zoning is decent, just by sweeping/throwing/gf throwing into safe jumps/gf throws, using the +6 on focus attacks and breaking option selects with jab> cr. fierce I can deal so much damage it´s not even in the book.
And denjin is alright, and serves it´s purpose against akuma and seth.
Gouken is rock solid mid for me at this point. work for your wins everytime, but not so much.
And backdash/dash(under cross-ups) on wake-up a lot to avoid throws so they will try to punish you for it and you counter them.
I wouldnt normally post but playing gouken made me. i like gouken as a character but something is off. to play gouken solid you have such a small margin for error its insane. he lost df overhead but gained the sakura type mixup but to get to that mixup you need to land cr.fp> ex palm and with the loss of the overhead in dont land it often.
And did they do something to his air fireball it passes through alot of characters way more than in sf4. Point is gouken doesnt have alot that is reliable, ive baited out kongos that whiff, had people neutral jump (sagat) on me at wake up and I lk. tatsu and it whiff straight through them. Ive played gouken since sf4 and i would just put those things on me thinking its the way i play… well thats done it has to do with gouken. Street fighter has alot to do with reacting to a situation how am i suppose to react when my move set isnt reliable?
The problem is with his hurricane kick its capcom gave it the worst of both worlds. It should either be a true anti air getting full hits and damage for catching someone in the air or its more a ground pressure move where should hit crouching opponents and slightly faster recovery
Yeah this is some bs, but lk hurricane an anti air seems to work pretty good and consistent. It reverses a bunch of this that would otherwise hit, and it’s good for neutral jumpers too.
what makes it worst is the counter still comes out if you try to tatsu they should have made kongo input df,df only, the risk /reward for this is so big i put it out of my mind as a option. speaking of risk/reward why doesnt low kongo do more damage?, most times its just makes more sense to block no real incentive to try.
you have to go to neutral then hurricane or use :df::qcb::k:
During your hit / block stuns or your set up you can already start holding :d: to signal the move.
i dont like the float down on his grounded spin kick, seems a bit silly given akumas recovery times (and their relationship in game lore) to have such a standard move nerfed so heavily. that makes it much sweeter to nail em with though, lol
I wanna get a quick check with me fellow gouken players
Who do you have the most trouble playing against?
Mine are
Bison-scissor kick pressure all fuckin day, i can only punish when the player is stupid and i get headstomps with kongo, and when i have momentum on him its psy crusher or tele escape.
Balrog-crlp to sweep all day, headbutts have crazy horizontal range, hard to punish dash punches cause i cant tell what armor breaks
Dan- I hate dan. I don’t even know why hes so good. His tatsus are safe and thats all he does so its like wtf.
Sakura -all the non shit ones ive played ALWAYS end up getting in sooner or later, and then i get fucked up with mixup
I heard Cammys give Gouken hell, but all the cammys ive played that were either so good that it doesnt matter what char they used or stupid shit.
Hondas are kinda pain too cause i dont know what i can fuckin punish
Agreed on all accounts. I would add Blanka on that list and lets not forget…EL-fuckin-FUERTE!!! I HATE THAT BASTARD! lol
Oh I almost forgot…lets not forget how incredibly annoying fighting akuma who can beat u with one knockdown. Its so sad to be gouken sometimes. =(
It’s never sad to be Gouken!
clutches fervently to upcoming AE so he can punish all those that have annoyed him online
The wait is worth it, sniff
EX Tatsu destroy’s all of his options on his wake up. The only thing he can do is faux safe jump you with palm after cr. roundhouse, or dive kick / palm after dive kick, or do some shit where he is jumping over the EX Tatsu to make it whiff which is pretty recognizable. If he faux-safe jumps you he has to flip pretty early to make it work, so you just have to get the timing down.
I’d say play around with him just to learn the timing of his flip set ups so you can see them and act accordingly. Now when you have no EX
I remember in the days of vanilla when fuerte was a hard ass matchup for us, I went to the air and tried to stay off the ground and moving so he couldn’t get a bead on me. To this day I continue to play as such vs everyone I face
Same with C. Viper, stick and move until you knock em down and make them guess or block on wake up. Do the same shit to them that they do to you that’s usually the rule.
I remember reading something in the Fei long thread that went something like “to those with less than 2k PP, you’re still lacking in some fundamentals that you must learn.” Well, this really pisses me off, because I’ve had the game since launch, done all of my homework, and find myself on a magical losing streak whenever I get to around 1200PP, and I can’t go to Endless because they’re filled with high rankers who either kick me or troll me (with a constantly taunting Ryu or Ken, though usually a Dan.) Yet I still keep coming back, and like a fool, I’ll be picking up MvC3 when it launches Tuesday…
You think we could get someone to host the PSN Gouken dojo Endless Lobby thingy? Cause I could really use some constructive criticism.
Ugh…I want my backdash fix already, lol.
that and my ex tatsu fix. getting ultra punished on hit is not fun.
Yeah, that too. But I want my backdash fix, cuz I’m getting tired of going to backdash and just getting thrown during the part that’s supposed to be airborne…or in the case of last night, f+HP’d by Ryu into Ultra. If I used Rose/Chun/Viper/Makoto…or just about anyone else for that matter…I would’ve gotten reset. Pissed me off…
hi guys ive been playing gouken abit and am really enjoying him and thus decided to pick him up. i used to main chun(really shitty player though). now i’d like to know what i need to learn to play him properly?
This is really not the thread for that, might I direct you towards numerous stickis filled with glorious information located above?
