Gouken F.A.Q.'s and Miscellaneous Info: Consider Here BEFORE creating a new thread

Hey guys. I never really post much because I am new to fighting games and I do not think I can contribute much useful knowledge. Seems like the regular posters know way more than me. But I decided to check out the mystery brackets and found that only Balrog has the brackets too like Gouken from looking at the frame data on the wiki. So I found on a Balrog frame date thread in which someone said that the number in the bracket is the move if it is done at point blank range. I am not sure if thats true, but no one disputed it on the thread and I figured someone smarter than me would be able to confirm it.

Ok. So that would explain the palm hitting at the beginning or end. Good looking out.

I don’t see how Fireball would changes it’s recovery when it is done in point blank…

Anyhow, I do have a question. Does anyone uses Gouken’s Super? I know I don’t. unless it is end of 2nd round and it is open for a punish.

Question is, what is there to use in place of super for punish? Gouken can’t combo from anything beside HP into ex palm. And there isn’t really any reliable way to punish thing that have quick recovery, say, Dudley machine gun punch for example.

What would you use? If not super?

Do not forget Google is omniscient!

The brackets I am talking about are for the start up time. Balrog did not have any brackets for his recovery on the moves with the brackets for the start up times.

you are too funny.

Why would anyone give up a free damage opportunity?? So you mean to tell me you have a stocked Ultra and is aware that you can land it and you STILL opt to do something else??

Gouken builds meter pretty fast, I don’t see the logic in just letting it sit there. The only reason I can see saving your super is when you want to carry it to the next round other than that, let it fly!!!

The problem for most not using our Super is b/c they use EX for other useful things, and/or it’s poor meter management.

And the great thing is, I will be able to jab, jab, into is soon!!! It will be a great day!!

Dudley frame data:

Dudley’s LP MGB is +2 on hit and -2 on block – Gou doesn’t have anything much that is THAT fast and relatively safe.

Unless I’m reading this wrong, Gouken really just has to block.

No one has a move that punishes Dudley’s LP MGB besides grapplers and characters with grab ultras. Everything else is punishable just fine. You can punish MP MGB with a well timed cr.LP > Tatsu and if I remember correctly HP and EX are open season.

MP MGB is -4 on block and -1 on hit. Very punishable with pokes, but no c/s.HP into EX palm, unfortunately.

What you can do if he just throws it out instead of comboing into it is throw out some OS cr.LK > Tatsu. A bit risky, but if he throws out an MGB you’ll stuff it with your poke and he’ll eat a Tatsu.

Ultra? Hell no. I uses it at every oppuntunity.

Super? I tend to keep my meter fairly low, but sometime I have 4 bars. I’m just wondering if people would opts for using it or do something else that gives similar damage without using all 4 bars. I tend to just go for EX palm and dash Tatsu, only one bar, but does tons of damage already.

Or If I feel really flashy, Ex palm FADC double dash ultra?

I guess c.lk -> tatsu is usable, but I never felt comfortable doing that. Usually just do c.lk > GF or fireball.

^ I will use Super every chance I get, not unless I can carry the EX to the next round and it’s just pointless to do so.

i wanna be gouken alt 2 for halloween, does anyone know what hes wearing and where i can buy some of those clothes?

so let me get this straight… goukens fireballs fire and recover faster when done upclose? if this is true then im going to start spamming the shit out of those hadokens… now that i think about it, it makes sense, because unless they come out quicker at close range, his anti air hadokens would be useless unless you could predict a jump. does anybody happen to have a capture card who could record and confirm?

oh by the way, thanks a lot for finally attempting to answer my question guys. i was starting to lose my faith on this board.

Hado is a good poke but aside from hp and counterhit nonsense there will be a gap between the attack and hado that will allow the opp. to punish you per reversal.

If you happen to land lp hado midscreen, you can link cr. Roundouse for the 2 hit. Most of everything else will be in the frame trapping neighborhood so check that thread, you should be able find some useful info. there about frame trapping and comboing with hado. Even the + 2 on block is enough to get your counter hit bs going, just beware of the reversal.

ive been spamming hadokens like no joke these last few hours… i dont think the numbers in brackets are for point blank… my best guess would be that those numbers stand for a second hadoken thrown in quick succession… since gouken seems to always win a fireball war.

and thanks for that info iamthatiam

There is a sweet spot near the corner where I’ve combo’d fb’s and not off reversal. I’ve been reluctant to try and find it , I’ve got so many other things I focus on as I play, I have been trying to expand my meta. But thanks to peepin recent posts fb’s will be on my mind tonight

Are you talking about linking after a fireball or comboing into a fireball? Because if you mean the former it’s anywhere in the corner pretty much. As long as you’re close enough to land an attack you can link after it. I suggest LP hadou > cr.LK > Tatsu for pretty beefy damage with no meter.

I seem to always get tagged in the air with air to air normals. I try to use j. mp and j. hp but i rarely connect. I seem to have the best success with j. lp but obviously it does very little damage. Is Gouken just weak in this area or am I missing something?
