Gouken Arcade/DLC Changes SSF4 update thread

s.mp -> cr.lp xx lp palm probably combos. s.mp -> cr.hp xx EX Palm is a confirmed combo if you’re close. That means mp palm will probably hit too.

I’ve got my delusional fingers crossed on cl.MP xx LP Hadou ->c.HK might be possible(has it been deconfirmed yet for distance, I’m not sure?). Other than that I am already exstatic about the fact cl.MP -> c.HK works, more damage and untechable knockdown as oppossed to either jab string or a single cl.MP to blockable hadou. Still curious if cl.MPs new pushback is drastic that no character can be double cl.MPed anymore. Oh well I eagerly await (de)confirms, knowing cl.MP ->c.HK works has me giddy enough

Anyone know if grounded tatsu is easier to do now? can it be tk’d?

i have doubt if low kick can be link with low palm ?? can any body confirm that please …

Well I can put your fears to rest in that none of our moves can ever link to a palm(except probably counterhit cl.MP, depending on pushback XD).

As I’m not sure which kick you mean(but I’m guessing crouch Lightkick) all Light punches(which have been confirmed to cancel into LP Palm) currently posses the exact same recovery as every light kick we have so anything that can cncel into a special will be able to cancel into LP Palm. Spacing can let it whiff as mentioned above.

AE Gouken would whip this version of Gouken’s ass, even with the back throw handi-cap. He’d put his old ass right to bed.

Lp palm is a beast I won’t expand of this just of yet  , we get tatsu every time (fadc/trade options and better anti air to support zoning), better normals (incl. links to cr. roundhouse), faster air parry > mix up, better anti-air normals with oki potential, and mp can be used as a multi-purpose attack button do what whatever you will to your opponent.

I’d give away a 20% nerf to back throw and 3 punch counters (not counting EX) for this any day. This Gouken is better.

Check my thread (b-nasty) to see the newest changes. Ive got some newinfo for you guys and videos against actual competition.

Desora Gouken in AE

Good matches, but it looks like he is stuck in SSF4 Gouken mode. He didn’t use a single tatsu for anti air (I can’t really blame him after almost two years now of not really being able to use it), he never used LP palm for pressure and always used MP palm which is fine for damage but he used the MP palm once or twice outside of a combo (everytime he tried a cl.mp link makoto would backdash away for free), and in two games Makoto only empty jumped once. At some point you have to kongo him just once to make him respect it. 6 rounds and not one kongo on a guy who clearly did not respect kongo in the least.

If I play two games verse a Sim who opens up with a st.mk / st.hp / st.hk to start every round, you can bet the fifth or sixth round I’m doing a high kongo to start one round with a life lead.

Kongo just puts straight fear into jump attacking. When you have them trapped in the corner and they are most desperate you can get an Ultra with two bars. I don’t know, it’s obviously not something you abuse but so many people don’t respect it that it makes it very useful. Against people without command throws it will force them to empty jump and try a throw which you can tech to reset the pressure.

I think my biggest problem playing mirrors is that I know what Gouken can do in any given situation and I fear doing everything haha. I’m scared to throw fireballs cause I don’t want to get palmed or flipped on, I’m scared to jump attack cause of Kongo…

**

gotta go for broke at sum point and stay fuck it, and get knee deep in dat ass lol

I agree with everything you said especially the part about kongo. I use kongo A LOT…sometimes it bites me in the ass but most of the time I know when to use it. I love it againt shotos who love to mash dp’s during my blockstrings and balrogs who abuse their jabs (which pretty much ALL OF THEM DO). That makoto was BEGGING to be kongo’d its not even funny. I was literally screaming at the damn screen for him to use it but no dice.

On a side note, looking at the various AE vids it seems like cl. mp is gonna be a bitch to master (timing and distance wise) and may not work on all characters. I hope I’m wrong but so far thats what it seems like. Also, gf air parry’s recover doesnt seem to be as fast as akuma’s. Again…this is just me speaking aloud but i really doubt its gonna be as versatile a tool as akuma’s. We’ll have to wait and see for more info and more vids.

I love the fact that he feels crisper in AE. Although his air-parry isn’t as fast as his brothers it is a great change of pace from supr. I feel it is faster than vanilla for sure. To me it seemed mp kongo>lp kongo or hi to lo parry seemed not to come out when I tried. Hope I’m wrong.

It looks like desora isn’t having an easy transition into AE Gouken, he plays still like SSF4 Gouken, no tatsu AA, no lp palm, no slam moves, no DF parry, no cl.mp at all.

If you land a deep dive kick or jump in attack, you will get a better opportunity to do cl. st. mp 2 times before the opponent is pushed out of range if it’s not the following characters… (Fuerte, Juri, Adon, Balrog, Blanka, Gen (crane stance), Guy, Guile, Chun Li, Rose, Dee Jay, Hakan, T. Hawk, Abel, Cody, Zangief, Sim, Dudley, will only give you the ability to land 1 hit even if you are very close). ’There may be a couple more that I missed but this should give you a good gauge

Spend some time in training mode just walking up to the opponent and pressing st. mp. Be sure to use the character sprites as your guide, if Gouken’s feet is overlapping with the opponents feet, close version attacks will come out, that’s how I’ve always gauged which version I’ll get since vanilla. Hopefully the push back is the same as it is now.

If you plink ~ cr. lk/cr. rh or ~cr. lp/cr. fp after your st. mp chances are you will land the 1 frame link easier, b/c of the option to plink it’s actually easier than st. mp > lp/cr. mk but neither is impossible to do with a bit of practice. The reason I say this is b/c once you have the timing down for st. mp you can use it for counter hit (in this version), in AE it will be a standard combo.

Hopefully Gouken has better on block frame advantage as well b/c +1 on st. mp is diddly shit, but somehow we seem to manage.

IMO Desora will be fine within time, habits whether good or bad die hard, and he’s been pretty successful with how he’s been playing up to this point so I think he can still play at a high level while learning some new capabilities. I remember Bullcat was getting roasted around here when he first popped up playing with Gouken and we know how that story has progressed, so I say that to say this…

GO Desora!!!

Oh I’m sure he will be fine. I was just watching the matches and looking at missed opportunities. I’m a huge fan of Kongo so naturally I am disappointed when I see someone relentlessly attack through the air and not get punished with a kongo.

Tatsu is going to be a mental thing. I think everyone will need to actively think about using tatsu whereas a lot of what we do is reaction. Just being able to use Tatsu for anti-air should be a huge boost. Trade into Ultra… Trade into another Tatsu… Reactionary anti air that can’t be empty jumped and then get you thrown. I’m really looking forward to it.

The only use I have for tatsu right now is in a combo or when boxer TAPs or EX punches through fireballs.

LP palm would have taken care of makoto backdashing away from the cl.mp as well.

I wonder what cl.mp is on block… It links on hit but now that I saw Makoto backdashing away I wonder if it doesn’t create enough block stun to keep someone in place or if Desora merely mistimed it.

I don’t think LP palm will take care of the backdashing, the range of the lp palm is really just slightly more then a cl.mp. In fact we might have to option select mp palm to punish backdashing from now on.
