Gouken Arcade/DLC Changes SSF4 update thread

There was no release date given for the console version. Generally, the transition from arcade to console lasts 8 months to allow the arcades to get your money.

Does anyone else besides ballsonchin have an arcade with AE they have access to?

Honestly, I have a teeny tiny delusional part of me thats hoping upon Arcade release tomorrow, bam console update hits and Ono says Merry Early Christmas. Then I realise that’s never gonna happen and I’m sadface :frowning:
Then the delusional part starts hoping for 2 months from now. Then bam the likelihood that it’s not gonna be within 6 months being the likeliest I’m :frowning: again.

THEN, I realise I saw that list of Gouken changes and well, that stuffs worth the wait :smiley:

Then BAM!..you realized well always have the Dojo sessions to stay fed! Updatye or not… Me too on the :frowning: tho

Edit: Just figured something out. Since Adon has the funky wake up, you safe jump him after cr. roundhouse with j. mk instead of dive kick.

If done properly- lk - rising jaguar gets stuffed, mk-hk-ex rising jagga gets blocked :slight_smile: All other delayed rising jaguar kicks get blocked. I’m not sure as to why I didn’t break this down a long time ago, but here it goes.

Close s.MP -> c.HP connects, but EX Palm sometimes won’t connect from it if you do it from far away.

And all throughout the valley it was known far and wide that Gouken was now top tier.

Just saw that at evenhubs, omg this is confirmed then, amazing! where are those arcade vids!

I’m really worried that backthrow has been nerfed with focus damage, this is too good.

So that means that this hit confirm hard knock should also work.

Close S. MP > Close Close S.MP > Cr. Roundhouse.

Also you can now easily hit confirm fireball fadc with close s.mp > cr.hp > lp fb > fadc whatever.

As long as the combo is possible because cl.MP has so much frame advantage and not because c.HP got changed to 5 frame startup. Fortunately all signs point to the first :smiley:

To be honest our fireballs slow startup is already plenty to hit confirm off of and after going into training mode and trying supers counterhit version of this combo the pushback left me to far versus vega for the ex palm to connect. This will be a good pressure string on block for sure :smiley: (but the beware the masher, for they are many)

Dont mean to be annoying or what but can u guys give me in depth infor from the changes that will make Gouken so high in the tier list (although u should not be thinking about tier list at all, but everyone has their chocie).
Eg: Ex Tatsu legit Anti air, comfirm hits into specials with the already good zoning tools plus more juggle potential in the air etc

It’s not just EX tatsu, but regular as well. Having this solid an antiair combined with all his other anti airs(c.HP, c.MK, cl.HK, High Kongo. The true beauty of it is not having to worry about getting a low counter if you were holding block before hand(very important vs people with fast forward moving specials/moves, who use those or jumpins to get close like Cammy, Seth, Bison, Adon and others).

Also EX Tatsu is now armour break according to the move list so this move just became exceptional. I have no words. It now feels like it’s worth having that horrible delay if you messup. <3

Close Mp was always a prime counterhit tool and now we don’t even need to confirm counterhits and LP Palm gives us an ender we probably won’t have to worry if it’ll whiff on a cast member mid combo making us more damaging and reliable close in. I’m curious of the details of LP palm, I hope it’s safer on block, but even if it isn’t it will do lovely.

Demonflip Parry being faster on landing(God I hope it’s akumas palm speed, but that might be hoping too much :frowning: ) makes the demonflip mixup have more options and the EX DF reversal harder to punish(not impossible, just more options to change landing timing, one of which will parry an air to air or anti air.)

J.MP can now be cancelled into Air tatsu, this will probably make us have a really damaging antiair that isn’t EX tatsu, but how effective/safe this is to be scene, but is another improvement.

The j. moves that now knockdown will likely allow more demonflip shenanigans.

Thats intense advantages, lets look at what got worse.

Backthrow. Well I’m gonna miss my j.MP to normal tatsu combos(I almost always go for reset if I don’t have ex anyway, so not even that bad really) and O noes Ultra does less damage. It’s still a ridiculous easy Ultra confirm and despite being used much less at HIgh level, the threat is still there. The reduction of s.HPs damage annoyed me more than this one.

3 counters instead of 2. We still don’t know the new counters exact properties, but even then for me the uses won’t change. Lows get countered by low and jumpins get countered by the other button. I’ll probably never even use that third one unless that’s the one we need to stop moves like dudleys s.HP or Vegas claws. Even then, no reason to confuse it with the anti air button so it’ll be fine.Theres always EX Counter^^ and even this nerf is a buff with the lack of overlap from tatsu.

But most of the reasons Gouken is moving up isn’t even this list, it’s in the others nerfs. Cammy Adon and Akuma will probably still be a pain, but it’s all looking good to me :smiley:
