I’m on my third Madcatz. First one, I modded the SE version with Sanwa parts and I loved it bc it was light. I had static electricity burn out the PCB. Second one, the red TE model, awesome but burned that PCB also. Now I have the Fighstick Pro, SF x Tekken model. No PCB issues yet going on a year, but I blow through cherry switches quickly (thank you Denjin). Next stick will be a Qanba or something with a better PCB.
Also, it’s not too difficult to resolder those connections and you probably just need a new set of cherry switches. I get them from the guy that advertises on this site…focusattack.com I think. 12-13 bucks for a new set already soldered onto a new PCB. Drop it in and boom, good as new! Not sure about shipping to Europe but check his site for ideas…
PCB???
Printed circuit board. The green thing all the wires attach to. It has components attached that run simple programs like turn this button on or make that light blink or make the character do X…
Madcatz PCBs are not so good. They are the laggiest sticks.
The issues with my current stick are much more complicated than a few soldering points. It’s bad case, a bad PCB, unresponsive JLF and a button that just like… doesn’t work sometimes.
If I plug it in and go into windows and move the stick around in a circle quickly, diagonals just don’t register on the right side on occasion.
It’s just a problem with almost every component on the stick. Replacing them all is more or less building a new stick (minus the buttons, which save for one actually work all right). But the case is also really light and slides around a lot, and I’d rather have another nice new piece of hardware with a sturdy case.
And I’ve heard things about the lag on Madcatz PBCs, but several professional players use Madcatz sticks. It’s good enough for players 10x better than me, so it’s good enough for me I think. I’ve never heard of static electricity blow-out though, that’s a new one. That’s crazy!
Yeah, winter, just came in from outside, sat down on my game couch of like corduroy material and as soon as I picked up the stick I felt a zap. Lights out on the stick. Weird. Second one just stopped working correctly, was registering wrong inputs and other weirdness. My current one is okay, but I don’t trust it to stay that way. So, if I got a new stick it wouldn’t be Madcatz.
I ended up cancelling the FS Pro and going with a Hori RAP V3 Kai. It arrived today. First reaction:
OMG MY JLF SUCKED. How did I EVEN PLAY THE GAME? JESUS CHRIST.
Second reaction:
^____^^
Third reaction:
Oh I can’t do anything. Welp, training mode inc.
Those sound good too. What price did you get it for?
I got it for 120 euros (160 dollars) after shipping, but you can probably get it for less in the US. I miss American prices (I moved to Europe a few years ago). Everything here is really overpriced.
Well, I’m looking at the red and white Qanba Qraf4, which Amazon wants 170 for, plus shipping. Probably will keep looking.
