It’s hard to detect jokes/irony/or sarcasm through text at times. He could have very well intended it as a joke, but I didn’t read it as such. I’m VERY much going to buy KOF12 when it comes out, and i’ve already bought a bunch of the hits such as 98UM. I just hate it when people try to capitalize off others work. In this situation, if it were tried and true winners promoting themselves in this capacity I might buy into it.
If Daigo/Jwong/ROrtiz/MrWizard released a book on how to improve my game or promote then I’d buy it. But no to selfish opportunistic elitist chauvinistic self-righteous pomposity…
This is why I’m here and I ain’t going anywhere anytime soon…I received a bunch of calls/pms/ims/messages requesting that I come speak on this behalf and say/do something, because yes he could’ve turned people against the very thing I have fought for years to make happen…so yes it is worth my time to come here and speak…
Lets give him the benefit of the doubt, even if he is joking he still has to understand that he has the power of influence…someone somewhere is listening 2 him and believing what he says…so he has to realize even as joking it affects people, I know you’ve seen celebrities in certain situations have to come back and apologize after making “crude jokes” that they didn’t intend don’t you?

I gotta give the man some credit. It’s funny, gootecks is getting all this attention…and guess what? HE ISN’T EVEN A TOP PLAYER.
Look at the AI/Denjin/whatever ranbat results. Peaced out. Devastation? Peaced out.
Yet the first name you hear out of a casuals mouth is “gootecks”, followed maybe by Justin Wong and Daigo. Point is, the dude is doing something right, because most people still consider him a top player even though he’s getting his ass kicked.
I respect Viscant from the years hes been around and all the times ive read something, and sed to myself “My God! Thats exactly what I was thinking but could not put it into text as well as him.”
Can’t come close to saying the same about gootecks. He seems to just be taking advantage of the increase in new players to SF4 to promote himself / his intentions. Its neither wrong nor right, but I simply just cant respect him.
I will be surprised if SF4 has half the momentum it does now, in one years time.

Top players make money by winning tournaments. Yeah… Gootecks makes money by going on interviews, promoting himself, and putting down fighting games not named Street Fighter IV.

the difference is that this isn’t a celebrity, its gootecks, and the only people that actually care about gootecks’s opinion is gootecks.
If there were people out there actually influenced by this statement and they decided they aren’t gonna buy the game because gootecks said its bad, then it really shouldn’t matter to you, i’m pretty sure you wouldn’t want those people in the kof community to begin with, and i’m sure those same people are too busy riding gootecks’s dick and donating money to him so he can buy a 360
I actually like Gootecks. I met him at Final Round. I came up to him and talked to him about the SF4 tournament, and he spoke back to me like we’ve known each other forever. He’s a really chill guy in person, incredibly nice, and very helpful when you ask him for advice. I heard Jwong is much the same, but I didn’t get a chance to speak with him.
Now Gootecks, love or hate him, he is passionate about this community. I gained more respect when I saw him in the I Got Next documentary. Here is a man who is deep rooted in reality. But he put’s it all on the line to try to promote SF, which could be a gamble. And Gootecks understand it. But I can’t really fault a man who follows his passions to that degree. It’s a dangerous world out there, and for a man to quit his job, and really start promoting SF4 and himself in the smart manner he has is admirable. I know I am one of those guys who could never do that in a million years, since I suck too much at SF to really quit my job or anything like that. Gootecks and Justin are great innovators in the scene. Both have taken their hobbies and turned it into a profit, and brought the game to levels I’ve never seen.
And seriously, Gootecks is a trendsetter. Now everyone and their mother has a podcast on the internet. Gootecks was the first person to ever start doing this. He is the first person to really sit down and let us see the people behind the gameplay. Now days you can see top players talking in front of cameras on youtube. But we forget that over a year ago, all you could see of top players is them at some ranbat, and you rarely would hear them talk. Gootecks genius idea to sit down and interview top players in a podcast was smart. And it gave us pedestrian fans a way to get to know who these people are.
Say what you want about Ryan Gutierrez, but the man is very smart. And the fact that people would even question his love for the scene is just ludicrous. Gootecks started the “man behind the gameplay” trend. Honestly what the hell did people really know before Gootecks got on the scene. There are two era’s of competitive gaming media. Before Gootecks and After Gootecks.
I played Blanka at release and I followed Viscant posts, great players like him and Ultradavid deserve respect for interacting with typical members and giving their advice.
I could care less about the character attacks on Gootecks. I’m just saying that get what he’s trying to do and I don’t understand why anyone would want to shoot him down for that. You don’t have to pay $9.99 to him to hear his pro strats. What I’m getting at is that the scene would be weaker without ‘opportunistic’ types like him.
Me too, but pleasantly so. I think I want to be a lot more optimistic than some people around here.
