Wait, why am I being lumped in? I asked you a fucking question, no reason to jump at me Geesetecks.
 You beat me to it.
I wonder how he feels about that.
Because you followed StuartHayden up in talking to me like you did the last time you all tried to jump on my case…sorry but it won’t fly this time…
If you didn’t try to do that my apologies…

It wasn’t my intention at this point, I’m genuinely curious about the Emp situation.
No one else wants to play SNK games. So they needed some random dude who did.
Hell, Tri Force would rather play competitive tetris than SNK games.
That’s saying something.
I am aware of this, but I was just trying to be political to him, trust me I couldve been much harsher to him, but I chose not to go down that route.
But yet you like SNK games like you say right dude? Okay man I’m just gonna walk away from you and I’ll let you think I’m a retard just like I think u are one…let’s agree to disagree…
Valaris- Why dont you ask Triforce instead of me?

what
Seriously! He’s promoting himself like that bit$% is trying to promote herself in the community. And he’s doing it the wrong way, not the Wong way by winning tournaments consistently. Barfights was cool, but on the whole, how does it help you and me? Yes it’s nice, but if it’s not inclusive then it’s excluding you and me and how long is that going to make YOU interested? The thing that’s beautiful about the WSOP (word series of poker) is how inclusive it is.
Shit, and it’s fun getting to play against “top” players. When I entered tournaments and got my ass kicked by players like VDO and Ricky Ortiz, it made me feel like I was a part of the community.
just wondering, does gootecks post on this board or does he even have an account here?
So what this thread is saying is…
Gootecks is to SF4 (And possibly the fighting game scene as a whole) as ClearChannel was to the Radio?
To be quite honest, I respect Darkgeese for what he’s been doing for the SNK community than what Gootecks is trying to do. I’ve been following DG and his blind love for SNK games for a long time, and it seems more genuine.
But Gootecks on the other hand, I saw through his bullshit from the start. As well as a few others, but I digress.
my friend just got back from japan like 2 weeks ago. kof is bigger than sf there, but… tekken 6 is teh biggest thing there right now.
I appreciate that I really do. I aint gonna sit here and say I’m perfect either guys, I have my faults like anyone else, I’m human, I get mad like anyone else, I say things I shouldnt say like anyone else…
But I love SNK games, I love promoting them, and love doing stuff for the scene…and I ask very little in return…
But once again I am a human being, so I’ll say and do things you may not like or agree with, hell some of you may not even like me…that’s okay I know that…

Why are people getting so bent out of shape over Ryawn’s opinion?
Because it’s wrong and hurts the scene more than helps?
Seems like a legit reason to me.
That’s why I said it was a stretch to compare the two. Unfortunately, fighting games require at least a cursory knowledge of the system in order to appreciate a great play. However, the same excitement and awe is still there, and moments like that might create interest in the scene in general. I showed a friend who never really played fighting games (unless you count Mugen lol) the video, and even he had a sense of how crazy it was. He wasn’t in awe, but it was something at least.
Well as I was telling people, even though he may/may not? :wonder: be a top SF4 player, what he says does carry weight, people do listen to him, and anytime you are in a position of influence you have to be careful what you say…
-DG
By him saying that, he could have easily turned off a few people from picking up KOF12. And I agree, he is in a position of influencing people. Loose lips sink ships- or in this case, sink sales…
Can you imagine the effect on people if top Starcraft players such as Slayersboxers or other top SC players were to publicly put down SC2?
I am utterly disgusted by this.
Holy crap… all aboard the Gootecks hate train, first stop Viscants nuts.
I actually think that Viscant misses the point with the exclusive events over tournaments bit. The whole reason this esports thing can work is because the ability is there to construct an ongoing narrative around the top players. Fighting games have probably the best chance of any ‘esport’ games doing this because the format is purely head to head, and the action easy to follow.
Take a look at the Daigo video again, do you honestly think it’s immensely popular because all of the Third Strike fans watched it and applauded at the display of skill? Of course not, it became popular when a large bunch of people on the internets saw, it heard the crowd roaring, heard the commentator and got an idea of what just happened. Without those two things no one would give a shit about it, and Third Strike in all likelyhood would not become nearly as popular.
Another example closer to ‘home’ is Rockefellas ranbats commentary. I knew people who could care less about Third Strike who enjoyed that… scratch that, I knew people who didn’t like fighting games that watched it. Characters… narrative… all the rest.
Yeah, sure Gootecks is an opportunist, but do you seriously care? I didn’t see anybody saying this sorta stuff when everyone was watching the stream for the SBO qualifiers, or DJWheats (another opportunist) presence at Devastation, or Ian Cofino and his documentary, or Dogface and his show. They are all essentially trying to do the same thing, and their effort is to our gain.
Coming back to the tournament vs exclusive thing, I do in essence agree with Viscant. It is the lifeblood of the community. Gootecks isn’t talking about throwing that all away though, he’s talking about reaching out to fans who don’t give a shit about ever going to tournaments. Just because some dude failed at doing it a few years ago doesn’t mean he will fail as well. He might, who knows at this stage? Give Street Fighter 4 another year and see if this whole movement has legs out of the Capcom driven marketing hype the game generated at release.
