Haha that’s fair. Hawkeye assist is probably better, since it also stays out horizontally longer since the arrows are a wider hitbox.
Though I wonder what’s better: Hawkeye’s Triple Arrow or Taskmaster’s Aim Master Horizontal Shot. Triple Arrow can miss against some crouching characters, but has faster startup than the Taskmaster assist. Though the thing is that most people don’t seem to crouch-block from fullscreen.
Anti-air, relaunches, mix-ups, cross-ups. You name it, Jam Session does it for Dormammu.
It’s likely his best beam assist, but I think Jam Session and Dark Harmonizer are both really strong assists for him on point as well.
I’m starting to think Hawkeye’s Triple Arrow assist is really strong for Dorm as well, despite its shortcoming of not hitting certain characters when they’re crouching. If you’re having some trouble learning Doom/Magneto/Iron Man and you want a horizontal projectile assist, then it’s a good choice.
Dormammu-α / Dante-α / Magneto-α might be one of Dormammu’s best point teams, then. Your two assists provide godlike air and ground control, and you can do absurd damage with both of them. Not to mention, you still have Dante and Magneto (a proven combination) if/when Dormammu dies. I’m sure you could rock this team in a different order and still do really well, too.
An anchor question for you knowledgable folks. I’ve been pondering two teams and am having trouble deciding which I’ll work on first:
Felicia (RBS/SS)/Strange (Bolts)/Dorm (Pillar/Hole) or Strange (Eye)/Hawkeye (Trip Arrow)/Felicia (RBS)
How do you feel Felicia and Dorm stack as anchors? Thoughts and criticism greatly appreciated! (Also being posted in the Felicia forum.)
Thor and Dorm work really well together. It took me nearly a year but I found my team now. Thor (spark)/ Dorm (hole)/ Skrull (stone smite) Though I’m working on Firebrand a potential switch with dorm…we’ll see.
I’m running Dormammu-a/Magneto-a/Doom-b now and I’m loving it. EMD assist gives Dorm a 50/50 from anywhere on the screen that converts to 700k-800k damage with one meter and Hidden Missiles keepaway while filling the screen with pillars and meteors is so fun.
I run Hulk/Dorm/Task. Hulk and Dorm have great synergy. If I dhc and dorm ends up on point, Hulk’s AA assist can help keep people out. taskmaster’s Horiz assist helps with teleport mixups and can combo into cMHS. The only thing is DHCing from Dorm to Task as not all the arrows from L+H super connect.
Lol That was my old MvC3 team.
People seem to be high about Magneto and Doom being two of Dormammu’s best friends in Ultimate. Question: is EMD the only projectile assist that Dorm can actually do a combo off of Mass Change H? I know Karst mentioned it as the only beam assist that allows him to do this.
Regarding Dorm/Doom, isn’t it mostly the Plasma Beam assist that makes the partnership beautiful as a whole?
^It really depends what type of strengths and weaknesses your team has.
I run Doom beam/Dorm hole/Sent drones in that order and its a very flexible and versatile team.
With this team running hidden missiles is kinda pointless as drones accomplish that goal of filling the screen up already. With my team I have the option of wearing people down with drones, stalker flare, dark matter, meteors, purifications and dark holes. However I can switch it up when I’ve conditioned them to block whilst getting through my obstacle course.I can just do dark matter+plasma beam xx teleport at anytime and its pretty hard to block especially when theyre just trying to get through projectiles.
Hidden missiles doesnt give dorm any mixups really although it is a superb assist for Dorms zoning.
An effective dorm will be able to rush down and play zoning/defense, you have to make those calls on when to swithc mid match as you cant do one forever. In this game even with the improvements to zoning, playing the chip damage game still has a ticking clock next to it. You can only do it for so long due to the nature of XF, invincible moves, air dashes and teleports. Thats okay though because dorm has the tools to switch it up. I recommend beam if you already have a solid assist for zoning and want to surprise people with the most basic yet effective strat in the game of assist xx teleport.
Hidden missiles might be worth considering as a counterpick assist though. I believe Dorm has some of the best ground to air control in the game which is a really good strength to have in this game as it counters that aerial 45 degree angle that hard to catch characters like Zero and Trish thrive in. If you want to buff his ground to air control even further pick hidden missiles as they do alot better against characters like that. You wont be fighting those characters on the ground too much so plasma beam isnt as effective.
Plasma beam can still be used to zone aswell so overall I think its the best pick for Dorm. Its probably the most versatile assist in the game and you really cant go wrong with it.
I would say Doom/Dorm are best friends when it comes to lame playstyle but you need a third assist in the back make them complete in my opinion. Theres a few things holding them back from becoming truely best friends. Like midscreen dorm cant DHC into doom for good damage and dorms dark hole assist really does nothing for Doom aside from locking down incoming characters. The combos Dorm gets off plasma beam arent spectacular either.
I think some of the best Dorm/Doom teams are:
Doom/Dorm/Sent
Magneto/Dorm/Doom
Dorm/Wesker/Doom
Task/Dorm/Doom (doom on hidden missiles this time)
Dante/Dorm/Doom
I’ve heard good things about Dr.Strange with doom and dorm too but I wouldnt know what order to put that in.
I’m thinking about trying out a Dormammu/Wesker/Magneto team since I want a anchor that really freaks people out. I love Hawkeye and Doom as anchors, but they have nothing compared to the fury of Magneto in XF3. Yes, it’s MastaCJ’s team albeit a different order. But, I love to use a mix of both MastaCJ and F. Champ’s styles, which is what every Dorm player should strive to achieve, IMO.
How do you guys like dorm with strider?
So I’m having a little trouble pinning down a main team to practice for the long haul. I’ve got 3 different options I’ve been cycling through that all work pretty well for pretty similar reasons but I can’t figure out which will be best once at full power because I don’t have nearly equal time put into them.
A: Dorm(Dark Hole) Wesker(Samurai Edge) Doom(Plasma Beam
B: Dorm(Dark Hole) Wesker(Samurai Edge) Hawkeye(Greyhound)
C: Dorm(Dark Hole) Hawkeye(Greyhound) Doom(Hidden Missiles)
Anyone have a strong opinion on which will turn out the strongest?
Trish and Dormammu were made for each other, imo. Purification assist for Dorm adds to the difficulty of trying to get in on a lame-playstyle Trish and Peekaboo assist for Trish is yet another extra hazard on the screen to worry about for the opponent. On Peekaboo assist catch, Dormammu can get some decent damage if close enough.
I’ve been experimenting with this for a bit… not sure if I like it too much. There are some serious relaunch shenanigans with Vajra assist, but besides that, I’ve found nothing else of interest. Not so good DHC chemistry. I’ll keep working them out in the lab and see what interesting stuff I can come up with.
I’ve checked the Ultimate updates to this thread a bit, but I was curious if you guys had any thoughts on Hulk, Firebrand, Iron Fist, or maybe Wesker as partners for Dormington, and which positions/ordering would be best. In vanilla I ran Hulk/Dormammu/Sentinel to a pretty high level of success online, and Hulk AND Dormammu seem to have gotten a bit better in this game.
I haven’t played too much Ultimate, so obviously I’ve got a lot of testing to do, but I would love to play Dormammu in this game and would love to hear thoughts if anyone runs a Hulk and Dormammu team, or if anyone uses Firebrand or Iron Fist as well (haven’t learned either char yet, but they look like chars I’d play or at least try). Thanks in advance.
Edit: One of my hypothetical teams that I think would work out pretty decently: Hulk on point, Firebrand, Dormammu as anchor. Hulk just because I like him a lot, and he’s best on point, hopefully get some comboes/build meter for Firebrand to use Luminous, and I feel like Firebrand and Dorm could fill the screen with projectiles. I don’t have an awesome explanation for this like Karsticles did with his team, just asking for some thoughts in general on Dorm with these characters and synergy. in before tl;dr
Hey thats cool man, I was trying to theory fight some teams up for me, since Dr. Doom is my favorite character and I didn’t really have a team built around him quite yet. That was, until I saw Nini Hearts vid of Dooms meterless 1m+ damage combos.
But anyway, it got me thinking about Doom/Dante/Sent as a real team, and I really really fucking liked it. You know how certain teams are built around one character, but as a sacrifice you have to use some suboptimal 2ndary characters or anchors. Well with that team, you get self sufficient, nearly full screen Doom and Dante ToDs ( Missiles/Jam Sesh/Drones ), along with Jam session and Missiles being practically the godliest assists Sent could ask for. So basically, no matter whos on point with that team, its based a fully loaded team, makes for a lot of versatility.
Anyway thats a bit off topic but its how I came to Dorm. Doom/Sent and Dorm/Sent are proven to be insanely good duos in Marvel, especially with a lame playstyle like mine. Its probably not a team built entirely around Doom, but Dorm is my 2nd favorite character so I had to tack him on there. I feel hes best as a 2nd/meter user, and that having him on point takes away a lot of his potential, likewise on anchor ( still solid at both though )
I kinda feel like Drones and Plasma beam serve a similar purpose, you can still do teleport mixups with drones pretty reliably, but I hear you on HM being not an all-in-one assist like Plasma beam.
Well this post kinda just winded off into nowhere, I only reall made this post to tell you that I use Purification on Dorm instead of Dark Hole, because you’re right, I don’t feel Dark hole is very good at all. This leads back to the start of my post, where I saw the Doom/Dante/Sent 1m+ BnB, so basically I use purification to get the corner assist extention on Doom to land the 2nd super, to make up for the lack of DHC synergy.
Heres the video i’m talking about.

Anyway, to get the extender I basically replace the Jam Session ender with ( this is after the Photon Array super has ended ), Foot Dive, Call dorm, as I land the Purification sends them up and I can connect the Sphere Flame for an easy 1 mill
So yeah, its a bit of a shaky reason to use Purification, but it does fill the gap between Doom/Dorm synergy a little bit.
I use to run Hulk/Dorm/Sent in vanilla and whenever I feel up to it I use them in Ultimate, I say Hulk is best friends with both Sent and Dorm seeing as they DHC well and the assist help out everyone. I would run Hulk(Gamma Charge)/Dorm(Dark hole)/Sent (Rocket punch) with amazing success. Gamma charge in the corner allows for Dorm to extend his combos and also works as a GTFO assist for both Dorm and Sent on the ground. I loved using drones with Sent but it didn’t help with my hulk damage out-put so switching to an OTG assist pretty much set up 850K damage combos from anywhere with hulk if I DHC into Dorm. Plus the entire team DHC’s so well its pretty insane, I mean of a Gamma Crush hyper you can to directly into Dorm’s Lvl 3.
On to Ultimate! I run Hawkeye(greyhound)/Doom(missiles)/Dorm(hole) it’s ridiculous how lame I am able to play with this team, I mean they can’t DHC well with each other but the amount of meter and chip damage I do balance it out. If for some reason Hawk dies I just super jump toss out air photon arrays until I have 2 meters then DHC into Stalking flare and just call missiles and pillars until I chip people to death. The missiles don’t give me mix-up options but Dorm can already create his own mix-ups with-out assist so having people afraid to move already raises my chances of winning. The team works really well together and it’s been doing me good so far. I might learn Dante and switch him in for Hawkeye if the match-up calls for it but odds are Hawkeye can handle most anything.
Thanks for the help man, yeah the DHCs for Hulk/Dorm/Sent are pretty crazy, definitely not looking to play sent in this game though. I’ve looked at Hawkeye a little bit for this game, he looks pretty crazy. I just want a team with some good DHCs and good chemistry and coverage with assists and for combo extending. I love Hulk and Dorm, so those two are most important to me.
