Essentially I lame it out hard with Sentinel; laser, cancel into Sentinel Force, Air Raid, or Flight. If I ever make a mistake, use Hyper Sentinel Force or Hard Drive to cover myself. Call Dark Harmonizer constantly to build meter so I can sustain this expensive playstyle. If my opponent gets close, I use s.S + Dark Hole call, which makes s.S safe and tends to catch a lot of people.
Once Dormammu is in, I pretty much Stalking Flare every chance I am given and turtle while calling Dark Harmonizer - the math for this is somewhere in this thread, but 5 bars + Dark Harmonizer essentially leads to 1.5 million chip damage. Sentinel’s job is just to wear my opponent down so it’s easier to chip out my opponent’s entire team. DHC into Astral Vision or Shadow Servant if my opponent can get around the flare.
The team will be much stronger come Ultimate because I will sub out Sentinel for Firebrand. Sentinel’s main weakness (besides being awful on point against most of the cast if you want to be aggressive) is that if I tag him out for Dormammu, Dormammu has nothing save to DHC into; Stalking Flare to anything Sentinel has won’t save me from a beam hyper like Astral Vision will. Luminous Body will be much safer, so I’ll have two utility hypers to DHC to. This is important because the following will happen:
Stalking Flare
Opponent Shinkuu Hadokens to punish (or something like that)
DHC to Luminous Body and block
Stalking Flare hits (there are only a handful of hypers that actually destroy Stalking Flare in the game, most just hit Dormammu through it)
Bon Voyage during the Stalking Flare hits and get a full combo with Firebrand.
So, any attempts to punish Dormammu’s Stalking Flare spam instantly becomes an offense for me unless my opponent also wants to DHC into something safe, and then the situation is still in my favor since Firebrand has the Stalking Flare on the screen to help him mix up my opponent.
If Firebrand is dead (he’ll be on point), then just replace Luminous Body with Astral Vision. She can’t get a full combo, but she can get a Soul Fist or two off from the Stalking Flare’s hits. I bet she’ll be able to land at least one qcf.S in UMvC3 from this situation, which means I’ll steal 2/3rds of my opponent’s meter when they make the mistake of trying to punish Stalking Flare.
My new favorite team- Deadpool (Quickwork), Dormammu (Dark Hole), Ironman (Unibeam). Fantastic team. Amazing synergy and chemistry. Can rushdown or zone and switch quickly between each. Can Dhc from back to front in any order without losing any hits. Any character can play the anchor so its not viable for the opponent to Snap in anyone early. Deadpool gets Darkhole and more importantly Unibeam to make his zoning a nightmare for most opponents. Unibeam also allows teleport shenanigans. Goal is to get at least two bars (deadpool is a great battery) and with all the chip/ zoning projectile damage hopefully being being dealt, itll kill most characters off with one combo into cutting time > stalking flare. Why Flare? Between the opponents character dying and new character coming in, It should allow Dormington to charge at least two if not three new spells. Now Dorm can mix up incoming character in sooo many ways. Teleport with unibeam or quickwork allows for front/back/high/low mix ups, very nasty. He also has his spells to fall back on now. Unibeam also usually buys him time to charge a spell. Of course he can always zone as well. Finally ironman can also use dp quickwork for quick airdash high/low unblockables. If he chooses to zone, Dorm’s dark hole combined with either replusor spread or air smartbombs creates a great wall, and he still has has beam as well. Two characters have a teleport and Ironman is quite mobile. Also any assist called is always in peril against this team due to all 3 having fullscreen “beam” hypers that dhc perfectly into each other. Plus this team will only get stronger in Umvc3. Only weakness I see is getting caught in rushdown, but everyone has that weakness unless they are running Tron/Haggar. Thoughts?
You don’t really have 3 full screen beams to DHC between, as Chaotic Flame doesn’t extend beyond the visible screen. I think you will often find that you will Happy Happy Trigger, which pushes your opponent’s assist of the screen, and then Chaotic Flame, and Chaotic Flame will drop. Otherwise that all sounds very nice.
Haha, thanks. These days I run:
Phoenix/Dormammu/Morrigan (in that order). Sentinel is so bad on point I figured I might as well put Phoenix there. I feel she’s the closest to Firebrand in this game, even though they share very little.
I’ve ran Thor/Trish/Dorm for a couple of weeks. It’s a good team given some principles, I especially like Dorm at Anchor. Trish’s main purpose is to lame out the opponent and build as much meter as possible when I run this format, plus she’s a good character to TAC into. Dorm’s purfication is my choice of assist with this team, I like how it helps Trish control the screen. As for Thor, I’d actually say he benefits more being anchored because Dorm gains impressive combo potential with Mighty Smash assist+OTG FC (especially in the corner!!) but he can start and take/dish punishment.
Going to try and start learning X-23 to slap her on my Dorm/Akuma team, so that I can get off playing Wolverine. My normal team of Wolvie/Dorm/Akuma is just going to work so much differently in UE.
X-23’s mixups are pretty fun with Dark Hole confirms + Mirage Feint BS. Also I like that unlike with Wolvie, I can use X-23’s Ankle Slice assist with Dorm to get that low block.
I played it last night for fun at a session and it was annoying the hell out of one of my friends. I messed around with Dorm first giving him the Drones + Morrigan Meter building and that was pretty fun. Trying to catch the Morrigan assist proved to be pretty funny.
I’m glad you enjoyed it - it’s a lot more fun if you use Phoenix on point because she only has a handful of bad matchups in the game.
Dark Harmonizer is extremely hard to catch. She’s vulnerable for a full 10 frames, which is basically the split second between when she touches the ground from being called in and when she blows a kiss - she’s invincible after that. For those not in the know, this is the same number of frames Haggar is vulnerable for at the end of Double Lariat…except Morrigan never give you two turns to prepare you for that small window. She comes and goes!
Edit: I’m 99% sure I’m sticking with this team but adding Firebrand in for UMvC3. The synergy is so excellent.
I’ll have to try that sometime. Played the team again yesterday in Casuals and still had fun.
Definitely interested in seeing how that team works out for you in Ultimate.
After talking to him abut switching to another Dorm team, I might have to steal Chrisis’ (old) fun team of Zero/Dorm/Task. I gotta learn Zero/Task from the ground up since I really don’t know any Combos/Setups with either of them.
hey I need some input, I was going to make a team with akuma/dorm but theres so many choices, I would really like some input from you guys for the third character. Possibly an on point character/battery.
Taskmaster fails on the third; he has no way to get past an opponent’s defenses. There’s no reason to not just block him all day, since he has no high-low mixups or good cross-ups. This is necessary to ensure you can possibly kill 2 full characters within X-Factor’s time limit. This is very difficult for Taskmaster unless your opponent doesn’t understand the matchup or is careless.
Simple, probably stupid question, but I’m working around trying to focus my team on Dormammu a bit more, and I wanted to add x-23’s OTG to the mix. I felt like the low/OTG would be good to extend his combos and set up some nice tricks for my team in general.
And I can’t seem to get the OTG assist to pick up after a BnB from Dorm. In the corner its a tighter timing than i expected, but it doesnt even connect midscreen. Am I just doing something wrong, do I have time to squeeze a dash in and land the assist still? Or is it not possible for some reason -_-
