I dunno I feel like you can play Dormammu without spending meter every 2 seconds. People assume you have to burn meter all day to make Dorm scary but from the local players that play decent Dorms they’ll say that you can definitely play Dorm without the supers and still be a threat. He’s easily one of the best characters in the game at this point with or without the meter burning.
I also feel the more competitive the game gets the less important “being able to kill all 3” is going to be for an anchor. In Marvel 2 you couldn’t kill all 3 pretty much…ever. You shouldn’t have to rely on being able to kill all 3 just to win with an anchor. You’re already at a big deficit as far as the strategies you can employ even with XF. Your job is play smart enough to kill one or 2 characters first with the first 2 characters and then have Ryu clean shit up. If Ryu has to fight off 3 full health characters…well even Wolverine or Wesker could very likely get turtled out trying to do that and the more high level play you see the less often you’ll those characters being able to run back 3 full health characters. Especially if XF is also stocked on the other team.
The only time having someone in the back with level 3 XF will run through a whole team is if the opponent already used their XF. If a 3 person team also has XF available…you can pretty much forget it. The one time they touch you even with a level 1 XF combo you’re probably going home.
Not that Ryu would be the absolute best anchor but if Chris G can put him in the back and stay competitive in tourneys…so can any one else. Actually the better choice would probably be to put Ryu second and have Dorm in the back.
I agree, yet still, Dormammu should not dying unless you are out of meter.
Competitive MvC2 says otherwise, along with Justin Wong now feeling that it’s a good idea to use X-Factor on your opponent’s point character. Your anchor will need to be strong as this game evolves.
XF1=/=XF3. I’ll just leave it at that.
With this change, you lose access to the amazing Fatal Claw -> Stalking Flare combination. If you have Dark Spells charged, this actually leads to 1.1 million damage, all from being touched by Wolverine.
I think XFactor should either be used during the following scenarios:
take out a difficult matchup on point such as Wolverine or Dante
if you catch point + assist
if you tag an annoying assist in like tron or akuma
any time you have the chance to take out pheonix
as a level 3.
I sometimes burn it as a counter attack to prevent death to one of my first two and I usually regret that because its almost never worth it.
That is my experience as well.
I’m looking for conventional wisdom on Dorm’s assists; right now, I am running him in a keepaway team with Trish and Deadpool, and I’m wondering if Hole or Purification would be best. I’ve been using Hole, but I’m wondering if Purification would be better with Trish to cut the screen up. Any help would be appreciated.
In that team id recommend purification, because all three can cover horizonatal areas, but are lacking in the AA department (other than trish’s hopscotch)…i think purification might be a better asset to keep people out. Dark hole is better for combos and mixups, purification is better for GTFO.
Thank you, this is exactly the sort of input I was looking for .
The other day I had an idea for a Dormammu-centered team. Put Dormammu on point/1st, then add two awsome ranged assists. Doom’s missiles work perfectly here. Now I wonder what to put next. I’m trying to find a good assist to complement him and keep opponents away. Any ideas?
Any beam assist would work. Beam assists are technically Dorm’s best teammate assists to have.
an invinc assist like tron to protect u from wolverine tearing u a new one
That too. XD
Haggar’s Double Lariat.
There are a lot of options. If you are not confident in your abilities against high-level rushdown, then Tron or Haggar is a must. I’ve used Tron for two weeks, but I feel like she’s holding me back, so I’ve taken to Dante. Jam Session calls while simultaneously Mass Change Ming cause Jam Session to cross-up, and they fall right back into Dormammu for a launcher. It’s not perfect, but I find it more enjoyable than turtling behind Tron Bonne, especially when my opponent knows how to jump over her.
Hulks AAA is great for keeping rushers off you… any time it connects you can charge 2 hands for free… and if you already have charged hands you can do: hulk AAA to hellfire xx sphere flame, teleport, slight pause, S… (after that you can purification xx df+pp if you like.)
If I’m running Dorm on point, I love doing Shuma / Doom Missiles. Good luck getting through all that shit, assholes!
Dorm/doom/haggar
A little bit of range and a lot of get the f. away.
I was messing around with deadpool / dormammu (pur) /mags (dis) and I was wondering what assist you guys would rather have for supporting dorm from deadpool. It’s a toss up between trigger happy for keepaway and katanarama otg for bigger combos. I think I’m leaning on trigger happy for keepaway, but I’m not sure how much dormammu “needs” otg for big combos. If he needs otg I’m fine playing a more offensive game and a weaker defensive game because I already have disruptah to play as much keepaway as suits me with dorm.
I’m looking at building a wovlerine/dorm team. I have two thoughts at the moment.
Wesker/Wolv/Dorm
or
Wolv/Task/Dorm
Thoughts?
