Saw just a few hours ago…
Definitely much better than the 2014 movie, which wasn’t bad either!!
There’s going to be Easter eggs scattered around everywhere.
And most importantly…Ghidorah does not fuck around in this!!!

My Take
I enjoyed this movie way more than Godzilla 2014. Screw all the “Professional Critics” who believed their was too much monsters and not enough human drama. The human drama was the worst parts of the movie (although I did enjoy the fathers character and obviously Kens character is always welcome).
Honestly, I don’t give two cents about the human plot in a Godzilla movie, I went to watch this movie to see giant monsters rumbling it out, smashing buildings and destroying cities.
Looking at the audience score it’s like the complete opposite of The Last Jedi to where the “professionals” gave TLJ higher ratings than movies like the Lord of the Rings The Fellowship of the Ring…wtf, while the audience overall was displeased with the movie.
For KOTM, the “critics” low scored the movie while the audiences general view of GoTM has actually been very positive right now (89%), well at least on “rotten tomatoes.”
I gave the 2014 movie a 6.5/10 rating simply due to lack of Godzilla and the cutting away from him during fights which took away from the real drama we were all waiting for. KOTM I won’t give a rating for right now, since I’ll let it sit for a few days and possibly watch it a second time just to really filter it in.
KOTM does Godzilla way better justice than what 2014 did. We didn’t have to wait for nearly an hour and a half before Godzilla showed up. He was made known quite early in the movie and damn was it epic.
King Ghidorah showcased why having a three headed golden dragon who could fly in the movie would only make it better. More importantly I love the entire twist of Ghidorah coming in as a hurricane (category 6, yikes!) which is to showcase how he is a disrupter and not the balance that Godzilla stands out to be.
Mothra looked beautiful and magnificent and for someone like me who was never a big Mothra fan, even I was blown away. Rodan looked terrifying and was incredible to look at, and I really liked the mix of making it look not only like the typical Pteranodon but giving it almost some Phoenix bird like features too which was a nice tough.
The central human family wasn’t that appealing to me, although once again, the father was the best part of it, while the mother and daughter were irrelevant to me.
Ken Watanabe dying was sad for me, only because I was hoping that he would continue to be a character that would last through out the entire Legendary Godzilla series so that you would at least know that although new faces would show up, that he would continue to be a recognizable face.
Now we have no more Japanese individuals in a Legendary Godzilla movie (No, Zhang Ziyi doesn’t count), and I hope that they remedy this in the next installment of Godzilla vs King Kong.
The fights were spectacular, but more importantly we got more of it, and it was nice to see tactics utilized by the monsters on top of it. Like Mothra using her web spits to lock Ghidorah to the skyscraper while Godzilla took advantage and smash him through it just for good measure.
Don’t know about you guys, but I could tell we had Godzilla fans in the audience because I wasn’t the only one to erupt in cheers when I heard the Godzilla Theme booming in the background while you see the G-Man in all his glory ready layeth the smackdown.
The Burning Godzilla look and the Nuclear Pulse was an incredible nod to the past Godzilla films. Burning Godzilla just looked amazing, especially with the red glowing eyes and the entire fact he was melting everything around him.
At the end when you saw the other Kaijus honoring Godzilla as the True King of the Monsters, and to see the final shot with the Godzilla roar…Please man, take my money.
Lastly, at the end, showcasing hints of Skull Island and the Newspaper saying “What’s a King compared to a God?” Damn Straight. This means that Godzilla better win, period.
Lastly, the missing head of Ghidorah found means that he’ll more than likely show himself again, and possibly as the real true nemesis in Godzilla vs King Kong. Hopefully we get Kaiser Ghidorah at this point, as it would more than likely be a Godzilla + King Kong tag team on him.
I really enjoyed the movie, because I went into this wanting to see more Godzilla and I got it. Maybe in the future I’ll write a more thorough detail, although this is already so long, however just taking bits from my head.
Thanks to the director, listening to him, I could tell he really was a Godzilla fan, an the small nods here and there in the movie along with putting the Godzilla theme in. King of the Monsters was worth it for me, and easily the Best Godzilla film that the West has ever done.
I just hope that Godzilla vs King Kong is even better. Can’t wait for Godzilla to smash down on Kong, because honestly, we all know Godzilla would wreck the great ape, let’s be serious.
Saw the movie. Overall I was entertained. Better than the 2014 movie as it delivered on what I came for. I’d say 7/10.
Human drama was the worst part of the movie. I wasn’t really annoyed by it till the “reasons monologue” happened.
I really like that they showed all sorts of advanced tech with the the underwater base, the Argo, and all that. Makes me hope that we’ll eventually work up to Mechagodzilla.
Based on the post credits scene,
I am sure some new “tech” is coming. Pretty obvious that Mecha Ghidorah will be a thing.
I echo the sentiment that King of Monsters is better than the 2014 movie.
Godzilla lives in the ruins of Atlantis? I like that idea.
I found it neat that each Ghidorah head had it’s personality. That would fun to play with when he comes back.
I liked it. As others said, it is much closet to legit Godzilla then the 2014 one.
The only problem is if you are a Rodan fan, dude is made straight bitch literally bowing before Ghidorah and then later Godzilla like no pride.
Also it looked like they hinted a Camera but didn’t full on show.
Are the Cthulhu looking spider and the mammoth original creations?
I don’t recall seeing a Mammoth in previous Godzilla films. The spider (Scylla or Kumonga?) is from Skull Island and also appeared in Son of Godzilla.
That’s yet another callback to the classuc Heisei films, this time the various underwater civilizations such as Mu and Seatopia.
If there’s anything that the movie does really well over its 2014 predecessor, it’s that it uses the Godzilla theme much more. At the same time, you can still tell that it’s Bear McCreary’s work, with how he adds in in his signatures, especially the vocal chanting, the same way you could tell that Shin Godzilla was Shiro Sagisu’s with all the stuff that sounds like its from Eva.
Kong give no fucks about the other kaiju
Lmfao said fuck the dragon
It’s crazy to me that King of the Monsters has a 40 percent on rotten tomatoes while the dogshit that was 2014 has a 75 percent rating. If anything it should be the other way around.
Just people being lazy I guess.
Critics complained that King of the Monsters plot focused too much on the monsters and not the human drama. Like anyone who watches this will give a shit about the human characters.
It’s funny that any of the reviews say that since there is plenty of human drama. Lol
