MUTO faces aren’t memorable. That’s the issue. Eyes are everything as is the familiar features seen in the animal kingdom. Maybe if they were given more of an inscect like appearance it would have worked but to me it’s just this triangular shape with teeth. I mean just look at the chibi version. It just looks like a thing. Not a bug or lizard or even a hybrid of both but just a thing.

Pac Rim monsters kinda sucked too since they mostly all shared a generic frame and color scheme. Which makes sense plot wise but they won’t be as memorable as past Kaiju and giant monsters.

They were a little too mechanical looking. Maybe it was the shape of the heads that did it for me. Needed to draw more inspiration for something in particular over a sort of random design, but it’s a small gripe

My only gripes were when Godzilla was swimming and the fleet of ships/carriers were just chilling around him like escorts. I understand he wasn’t out to kill humans, but being surrounded on all sides so closely should have prompted him to at least swat them all away. Just broke his character in that instance IMO. And of course the nuke being detonated so closely to the city was laughable, reminded of the DKR ending and how ridiculous that was.

Other than that I really enjoyed everything else.

The only problem I had with the carrier ships is how close they were to Godzilla when it was swimming. If he decide to rise at point then those ships would have been fucked.

I looked at it like how you’d see schools of tiny fish swim near a shark for protection. Shark doesn’t bother them because they’re so small and insignificant that he literally gives zero fucks.

I’ve read that Edwards has stated that if given the chance, he’d like to explore the whole “Monster Island” deal. Interestingly enough, the prequel comic actually has a “Moansta Island” where the Big G battles it out with another Kaiju.

I think it’s gonna be a guarantee that there will be a Monster (Moansta) Island in the sequel. That way they can allow Godzilla to fight some of the minor villains (Rodan, Anguirus, etc) before taking on a Big Bad. And explain where Godzilla is when he isn’t swimming around the ocean.

Nothing compares to hearing this in the theatre. NOTHING!

Actually, the movie establishes that Godzilla doesn’t think much of humans as a threat and won’t really go out of his way to harm them (save for the scene in the bridge where he was partly defending himself, partly just trying to get across it). Just like the end when he wakes up - instead of causing a ruckus, he just slowly walks out back into the ocean

Yeah I understand that part, you would think as an animal though he’d have a natural instinct to ward off so many things boxing him in. I don’t know, the scene just looked a bit comical considering the humans had just made contact with him just a day or two prior and now they feel comfortable enough to get so close to him when destroying him with a nuclear bomb was on the table.

They should have saved a scene like that until after they established that he’s not really there to destroy humans, perhaps the second movie would have been a better time to show that. I’m just nitpicking the scene because it stood out so much to me when I saw it.

They weren’t comfortable with him. They were with him to monitor him. Being the natural predator of the MUTOs it was in their best interest to not try the nuke him right away. MUTOs were the bigger threat

Godzilla most likely had no idea the carriers were even around him. His face was under the ocean.
If anything, maybe not the greatest example, think of Sharks with pilot fish around them. The Sharks doesn’t care

It’s Sunday, nigga. Movie came out Friday, and a ton of people saw advanced screenings Thursday. Anyone dumb enough to look in a movie’s thread when it releases not expecting spoilers deserves everything they get.

If anything, I’m impressed that the early goers were kind enough to use spoiler tags up until late last night.
