Goddamit, Sentinel is the Chuck Norris of MvC3!

It’s working so far, lol. But yeah I’m new to mahvel, and he’s giving me a ton of grief right now. Later on when I learn some more stuff, eh maybe? I’m not the expert on this stuff, hopefully I’ll develop some good strats against him soon. I can tell you from someone who’s played other fighting games competitively, from an outsider’s perspective he does look really fucking strong even when you take his weaknesses into account. His mixup may not be all that great, but there’s been a ton of top tier characters in past games who’s mixup wasn’t a traditional high/low/crossup/whatever mixup, but just a “do broke shit/bait response to broke shit then do more broke shit” mixup instead.

To me, RIGHT NOW, that’s what Sentinel feels like. I’m trusting in the fact that it’s a new game and people that know more about VS series games will figure some shit out. Too early to cry patch or broken, we haven’t even had a real major tourney for the game yet. I’d say if they were planning a patch, it should happen sometime after Evo. Give the game as it is right now a chance to run it’s course through the community for a few months first.

if you read all the posts you’d realize im not complaining about the character as a whole. even after playing the game for a week its obvious that he should be brought down to every other characters lvl. i’ve already said there are ways to get around him. but his damage is as ridiculous as ridiculous day down at the deli… prices were so low they were ridiculous. but i actually do pretty well against him after playing 100’s of sent teams.

my main beef is how a player with no talent can be a threat. i can respect players who are good with him and deserve to win.

Would you be so kind as to go to a couple of other fighting game discussion forums that I could mention and enlighten their moderators on this very wise philosophy? Kthnx.

Larger and newer player base with MvC3 vs. MvC2. Also due to MvC2 people where already looking more closely at Sentinel whereas as several people have mentioned the team dynamic of MvC2 didn’t pick up on how good he was in that game until further into the games cycle.

I don’t play sentinel and I win all the time. He’s not a cheat code, hes not broken, hes just tough. I think you’re being a bit dramatic.

This is what Im seeing. Sentinel is not broken stop crying. Tears are too salty for me

I strongly believe that Sentinel is far from broken, and once the metagame is out, people will feel a lot differently about Sentinel. I personally don’t feel he’s “God tier”, possibly top tier but I can see other characters potentially being better than him.

I just got done playing someone with Sentinel offline for about 3 hours, and I gotta say I feel a lot more comfortable against him now. He can still beat me, but considering I was playing someone with a lot more VS series experience than myself, that’s gonna happen anyway. I’m probably more scared of his Wesker and Magneto than I am Sentinel right now, just have to be patient against Sent and be willing to wait and pushblock his autoguard moves. I thought doing multi hit air strings was going to be the way to go, but it seems like it’s better to just block unless you’ve got a move like Morrigan’s j.S or something.

So I mean, I’ve never played a VS game seriously, I just had one real sit down and work on stuff session, and already I don’t feel like he’s that big of a deal. People crying patch need to just relax a bit. Easy characters are in every game, and everyone can 100% in this game if they really need to.

Good shit, Kowtow. You’re an intelligent human being. You actually tested out ways to try to beat him, instead of just complaining. Mind set of a pro, you’ll go places.

the fact is sentinal is too good now he was too good in MvC2 but it was bearable because he took alot of skill and practice for the most part but in this game any moron can pick him up and shoot lasers from full screen then when you get close frying pan or launcher into 80% of your life then laser you to death. so imo if you are saying “oh hes fine leave him alone” that basically translates to “i cant win without sentinal” and this is coming from a guy who was looking forward to sentinal well not anymore seeing as how easy he is just like the people better than us are saying “hey if you want to win pick sentinal” i dont see how some of you can find NOTHING wrong with that

^Christ… there are so many things wrong with that post…

Your better.

 No it isn’t.

Sents Neutralize isn’t a god mode projectile. It can be beaten by zomg jumping!.
And if sent doing an Attack omg Block. SooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo Hard ;-;

Capcom is going to nerf him the very first balance patch, then people will have to find something else to cry about.

I think Capcom were retarded to put Sent in this game as he was, casual players are leaving Marvel like rats that abandon a sinking ship. I don’t think he’s going to be top 5 when all is said and done but he’s way too effective @ casual/scrub level which limits their enjoyment of the game, and when you’re aiming to sell 3 million copies of a game where those guys make up the majority of sales than it was moronic period

There’s Street Fighter IV 3 million and there’s Tekken 6 3 million… I expect MvC3 to join Tekken 6 in flooding bargain bins.

We’re talking about the SF4 that had Sagat and Ryu right?

Alidfe I unno what you’re talking about Vanilla Sagat and Ryu are awful

The main problem isn’t necessarily Sentinel just being Sentinel, it’s Sentinel combined with a lvl 3 X-Factor. Like it or not, it’s just flat out retarded damage wise. He’s essentially doing Hulk like damage but with much greater mobility. Another thing is that his assist is just so damn good (this is not a problem) that I’ll have him on the majority of my teams for that alone. The fact that he has such a huge “comeback factor” compared to most of the cast just pushes him even farther over the top.

To say the game is early is an understatement, but to also say that in the current game he’s not one of the scrubbiest characters anyone can play is another. He gets compared to SF4 Sagat quite a bit, and just like in SF4, the only people defending him and saying he wasn’t “broken” were Sagat players. I’m not “salty” because I got a rocket punch to the nuts, but the level of denial in this thread is astounding.

Sentinel is quite the powerful crutch, I won’t deny that even if sent users will. Lately I’ve noticed that if I’m beating someone with my non-sentinel team (Haggar/Morrigan/Deadpool), and especially if Haggar OCV’s, they give up mid game (as in just stand there not pushing buttons) and immediately select Sentinel next game. From here sometimes I’ll win, sometimes I’ll lose (I’d say I’m about 60/40 against sentinel teams), but at least I know they needed Sentinel to put up a fight. :woot:

I do kind of find it sad when I’ve made sentinel players ragequit with a non sentinel team… I mean c’mon, it’s bad enough to ragequit, but while using SENTINEL?! Haha.

I’m still trying to learn how to deal with the easymode, and I don’t mind anyone picking him, as he is free to be picked in the game but I do have a little more respect for non-sentinel players winning at this point in time. Sentinel’s benefits far outweigh his weaknesses currently. I just don’t want to use him to make up for a lack of skill on my part, so I’m just gonna try to learn to outplay him, hopefully.

The game is still very fun to me, though. Just knowing that if I beat a sentinel player means that I severely outplayed someone is quite uplifting gamewise.

Sentinel’s keep-away has been nerfed since MvC2. Everyone else’s keep-away and rushdown have been buffed quite a bit.

MvC2 Sent is SOOOOOOOOOOOO much more powerful than MvC3 Sentinel that comparing them is ridiculous.

If that’s your idea of retarded, I’d hate to see what you think of XF3 Hulk. Or Chun. Or Spidey. Or Storm. Or Magneto. Or Akuma. Or pretty much the entire cast besides Sentinel, since they almost all get more use out of it than Sent does.

His assist is better than ANYTHING he has on point.

I wouldn’t really put too much stock into playing random people online. I went online for the first time yesterday and played some guy with like a 130-20 win rate expecting a good match. As I was about to ovc him with wesker he rage quit. Then I proceeded to on a +20 win before I accepted an invite from a friend.

Point is online ranking has no barring on skill. Sentinel will eventually be figured out so if people are using him as a crutch and not implementing skill or a solid game plan they will lose to good players. If you are losing to sentinel when he is lvl 3 x-factor or otherwise it’s because you deserve to.

This is the best part of his being on your team. He controls so much of the lower screen.

exactly.
