for those that dont know about Thormammu you can combo thors lvl 1 grab into chaotic flame or if you have 3 meters to spare dark dimension
ok so i went into the lab to explore Thormammu a little bit more i have them as my main team but didnt experiment with their assist much but man they can do some cray stuff. in the corner
With thor you can do standard ground chain into standard air chain, call dorms purification assist, charge m standing might strike, go into m mighty smash then, might tornado does about 700k (please note if you try to relaunch from might smash the hit stun only lets you get one air m in berfore they recover at least for me)
with dorm in the corner you can do standard ground chain into standard air chain ,call might smash assist, otg flame carpet, do crouching m into s, then standard air chain into pure xx chaotic flame does around 650k
also might punish can dhc in stalking flame and it will connect
i think dorm is the way to go with thor im just looking for a 3rd character i was thinking of chun but idk i dont like how fast i have to tap the buttons i end up getting legs alot. I have tron as my 3rd but only for the flame assist dhcing with her is ok but she just doesnt have the synergy that thor and dorm have im trying to think who would be perfect to add as my third.
Go with Wesker. I run Thormammu + Wesker at point. He is such a good battery.
i would but another team i have in the works is hulk, task, and wesker and i dont want wesker repeated in another team im just picky like that plus i think there might be a better character then wesker for this team but i maybe wrong if all else fails i might just reorganize my teams
I’m working on a Thor team as my secondary team which will probably just be a team for casuals or for having fun early in tournaments (I intend to play my Zero team every game in tourney unless I absolutely can’t). Right now it’s Thor/?/Tron. I played a Tron team in MvC2 for a long time and I like her in this game, plus Thor gets a lot of utility out of Gustaff Fire assist, and there’s pretty good DHC synergy both ways between Thor and Tron. The ? can be either Hsien-Ko, Dante, Sentinel, Dormammu, or Ammy.
Hsien-Ko: Can make use of the DHC glitch going from Mighty Punish to armor super, into full combo, and if you’re feeling lucky you can TAC from Hsien-Ko back to Thor and have Thor on point again with armored Hsien-Ko assist. DHC synergy between them is decent as long as you do Tornado low enough to the ground, but Hsien-Ko is weird to play
Dante: Can also make use of the DHC glitch from Mighty Punish to Devil Trigger into full combo for a ton of damage. Jam Session also gives you some defensive utility, but DHC’ing from Dante to Thor is pretty weak.
Sentinel: Best assist support out of the 5 for sure. Drones are awesome to cover Thor moving forward into mixup. DHC Synergy is pretty weak though; you can go from Tornado to Plasma Storm and get most of the hits, or you can go from the lightning shockwave super to HSF, but you’re losing some damage either way. In the corner you can DHC glitch from Mighty Punish into HSF into full combo for a really stupid amount of damage. Thor/Sentinel/Tron also has a hilarious amount of total life. My biggest problem here is that I just don’t really want to play Sentinel
Dormammu: Dark Hole assist is amazing lockdown to help you get in. Thor also doesn’t use much meter so Dormammu is going to love having so much meter when he comes in. Lots of DHC synergy between both of them, but you can’t use the DHC glitch here.
Ammy: Cold Star assist is great for getting in, just like drones assist. Okami Shuffle hits pretty much everywhere so DHC’ing is easy both ways, and you can DHC glitch from Mighty Punish to the slow mist. Thor/Ammy/Tron would just be Justin’s team but replacing She-Hulk with Thor (who’s still a grappler lol) and for a team that I’m mainly just having fun with I want to be a little more creative than that.
nobody uses x23 with thor? i thought that theyre pretty good together, i use Thor/Ammy/X23. Having an assist that hits low AND OTGs is pretty awesome, you can go for an unblockable which thor rly needs. Also instead of ending an air combo with mighty strike xx Mighty tornado you can just end it with S, dash and call the assist, you should have time to fully charge a ground mighty strike(L) and cancel it into super which does like 720k damage. In the corner you could do a fully charged Mighty strike(M), air (M) mighty spark (on the way down) xx mighty tornado which does a little over 780k, and you could always follow up a charged mighty strike with a launcher and just go for an air reset.
Current team set up: X-23 (ankle slice)/Thor (mighty smash)/Trish (low voltage). X-23 starts, and she’s really good in terms of being able to open up an opponent but only if I have my assists available to me. So cross up mirage feint as I call an assist is handy for example. I can extend combos too with mighty smash following OTG ankle slice, but its risky, quite hard to time. She can legitimately fuck up teams by herself, but I usually DHC her out to Thor via (some combo or very nice decapitating slice grab move) -> OTG ankle slice -> rage trigger super -> DHC’ed mighty tornado. Some nice damage off that, though it costs me two bars. Thankfully X-23 can build meter like crazy.
Thor now gets in and does his thing, back up by the projectile assist of Trish. I’m sometimes hesitant to use X-23 again as an assist (at least outside of OTG combo extending), as she’s usually on half a bar or something by this point, but it is possible to create high/low mixups as I go in with Thor. He does a nice amount of damage hopefully before he bows out and given that X-23 should have done some damage before I got her our, as we all know getting caught by Thor when you are at half bar is pretty much the end. I’d maybe try to hard tag him out with Trish, maybe not, it depends. If he dies and X-23 comes back in, I don’t want her there for long. Again I’d try to get her out somehow.
Trish comes in. She’s great because she is so versatile. Sure, she benefits from assists like all characters, but can function in many different roles without much support. X-23 again with a low assist gives a nice high/low mix up from a square jump into j.H. Importantly, I focus on solid play rather that meter burning in combos. Her maximum voltage combos also have a nasty habit of sometimes falling out as well!
The eventual point comes when I want to be left with X-23 by herself with at least 3 or so bars. I’ll work for an opening to get in and land that OTG to rage trigger Half way through the super, pop X-factor and relaunch and kill them off the resulting combo. THEN I pop Dirt nap for a nasty trap to be set up as the next character comes in. (If I have an assist still alive then it makes it even harder for them to avoid it). You can follow up the Dirt nap with OTG into rage trigger again. With X-factor on, I’m not sure how many characters even at full health survive that. Even without this cheeky set up, X-23 with X-factor is nasty.
So that’s how I basically play my team… I still struggle against teleporters like I mentioned though, don’t really have a get off me move. And I do play my Thor a bit naked in terms of assists… but I like the other characters too much to change them!
So, after screwing around with Thor/Ammy/Doom, I’ve pretty much come to the conclusion that Thor/Ammy basically hard-counters most popular teams. The only characters that were causing any problems for the team were teleport-centric rushdown characters and so I’ve swapped Doom with Iron Man. His Repulsor Blast assist makes characters who rely on their teleports cry.
So, yeah, Thor (Mighty Spark) / Amaterasu (Cold Star) / Iron Man (Repulsor Blast). It beats everything.
I think I’m going to try to run Thor/Tron/Sentinel. Tron’s assist hits higher then I realized so you may be able to use it to take advantage of Thor’s flight-dash. Sentinel gets this too so it should help make dealing with Amaterasu easier up close. If Tron’s in then she’s got 2 characters who can take advantage of the DHC glitch. Has anyone used Thor’s mighty smash as a crosscounter? If if stops Amaterasu or other pixie characters from freely rushing you down then that’s something else so make it so rush down teams have to proceed slower. So if Sentinel’s in either call Tron or block and crosscounter with Thor. Oh and obviously drones help Tron/Thor. On top of that, I think I may hit the assist button for Tron at the same time as crouching medium. I think that makes it safe. Unless they punish with a super or a throw Tron will knock them out of whatever they just did. If crouching medium hits then Tron may just be extending my ground combo. I dunno, feels…complete…
edit2: Really liking Thor->Zero->Iron Man. Every character DHCs to each other pretty well. A simple air combo with Thor leading into his tornado super DHC’s into Zero (who can also x-factor cancel then super again). Later on Zero’s basic combo+super DHC’s right into Iron Man. If the order changes up to Zero->Thor then Zero can still DHC back into Thor given the circumstance; If they’re in a corner then the Tornado works, if they’re not then the Thunder works. Still not sure on assists though, Zero’s Shippuga is some nice forward pressure, but I don’t integrate any of Zero’s assists as well as I should. I like both Thor’s Mighty Spark and Mighty Smash, although they don’t get a lot of use because he’s on point. Iron Man has a pretty good beam assist, repulsar blast can lead to good set ups and coverage on mix-ups, smart bomb OTGs. Having Iron Man on third means he’s likely to get X-factor, and Iron Man with X-factor leads to dead characters effortlessly.
In terms of a general strat. I think having Thor second is a good idea. The thing is if you point his first, he’s having to deal with characters that 90% of the time will be faster than him, and backed up with two assists. Basically at the start of the game there can be a lot of carnage to deal with. For me, its preferable in this situation to put my faster character on point with faster and longer reaching normals. It’s easier to punish and react to stuff, or even just get out of the way.
I think it depends on the assist you have backing him up, I use Hulk (gamma wave) or (gammacharge anti air) lets thor move in way better or keep the fast pesky mofos off of him, and if Thor happends to be having a tough time Hulk comes in an cleans up.
I also use Hulk and Thor and find them to be a fun/effective combo. I’ve been using Gamma Charge instead of Gamma Wave as Hulk’s assist, though. The main reason is that Thor can struggle with heavy pressure, and I found having Gamma Charge helped free him up a bit. It’s also easy to setup Thor’s tri-dash off the Gamma Charge.
Hulk benefits quite a bit from Thor’s Mighty Spark as well. He can use it to help get in, or actually zone with Gamma Wave -> Mighty Spark -> Gamma Wave. He can also use it to combo after an OTG Gamma Wave and relaunch.
They have great DHC synergy also. Thor’s combos ending in Mighty Tornado easily DHC to Gamma Crush. Mid-screen, just hit it before the last hit of Mighty Tornado. In the corner, you can do it whenever. Gamma Crush also easily leads to Mighty Tornado.
The only thing that’s tough about their DHCs is going from a mid-screen Hulk DHC to Mighty Tornado. You have to change up your Hulk combos slightly to accommodate it. I find that I can use an OTG assist (like Wesker) as my third, and that helps me connect mid-screen Hulk Gamma Crushes into Thor’s Mighty Tornado. The damage is pretty ridiculous.
What’s a good anchor to compliment Thor/X-23? Not a big fan of Dormammu or Hulk.
I’d try to pick someone with a projectile assist who also plays just fine on their own, like Magneto or Iron-Man. I’d probably run X-23 / Thor / Anchor in that order to easily DHC glitch from X to Thor.
Alternately, you can try and start combos with Thor, then Aerial exchange to X-23, then setup the DHC glitch from there.
Thanks, I was exactly thinking a projectile assist like Magneto or Iron Man.
My current teams w/ Thor are:
She Hulk (torpedo) / Thor (Mighty Spark) / Arthur (Daggers)
and
Thor (Mighty Spark) / Hulk (Gamma Wave) / Arthur (Daggers)
For the first team I typically DHC into Thornado after I land She Hulk’s full dropkick super (all three hits). It’s very nice damage and Thornado can even further DHC into Arthur’s projectile super if I have the meter available. The great thing about the extended DHC is that you don’t have to end the tornado early for Arthur’s projectile super to work. You can wait until a split second after the opponent gets knocked out of the tornado and then call Arthur and it will all combo.
The dagger assist is fucking awesome for both She Hulk and Thor for getting in and applying pressure. Great for Thor tridash, and it is also great for hit confirms into combos. I used to run Hulk instead of Arthur for his Gamma Wave assist but there is no comparison. Gamma Wave has better durability but it doesn’t go full screen, and it knocks down the opponent which screws up combos. Plus I like Arthur as an anchor much better than Hulk. If I have Arthur on point then he gets great usage out of Mighty Spark assist when it comes to filling the screen with shit. It’s VERY difficult for alot of characters to get past all the spam and gold armor is hardly needed expect in specific match ups. Still though I tend to let Arthur be the last character since he does ridiculous chip with lvl 3 x-fac. lvl 3 x-fac + Gold Armor is especially retarded. Plus I LOVE his lvl 3 super. It hits everything below super jump height so it’s an awesome tool for breaking out of block stun via x-fac cancel, and hitting the opponent + their pressure assist. Plus it has 2 billion frames of invulnerability so it can beat everything. I very much believe that it’s one of the best lvl 3s in the game. The worst thing about it is that it doesn’t hit OTG. Otherwise it is sooooooooo good.
For my second team I frequently switch Hulk between Gamma Charge AA assist and Gamma Wave assist. I won’t lie–I like having him on Gamma Wave assist because the fanboy in me likes having a functional THC combo. With all three characters on projectile assists you get Mighty Shockwave, Gamma Tsunami and Goddess Bracelet as a THC combo. Since Gamma Tsunami and Mighty Shockwave will hit OTG you can use this THC after and hard knockdown. EVERYTHING will hit. Ideally its not the absolute best way to spend 3 meters, but I don’t care it looks awesome and it’s the only team I play that actually has a decent THC. Otherwise the same stuff I wrote above applies to this team: Daggers are great for the brawlers to get in. Mighty Spark is a great compliment to Arthur zoning (and vice versa). Thor->Hulk has excellent DHC synergy. Hulk AA gamma charge assist is awesome GTFO for Thor and Arthur (if I’m not being a fanboy and going with Gamma Wave instead). The team is pretty versatile when it comes to which character I want to start the match. The DHC synergy can get screwed up, but they all have assists that will complement each other nicely. Typically I start with Thor or Hulk though. I hate losing Arthur early because he plays such an integral role with his projectile assist.
Bronze we are going to have to hook up, we keep missing eachother.
experimenting with Magneto (Grav or Disruptor) Thor (Spark) and Akuma (tatsu)
Magneto is so good with combos that push the opponent into the corner then DHC into Thor for his biggest strength, Mags has good combos that work well with Akuma tatsu midscreen 650K+ with only 1 bar, and can DHC trick into Thor for lol damage for 2-3 bars. I just need to learn to play with them better, but I like it
Doctor Doom is pretty good at this and he has amazing assists too.
Also if you lead X-23 you can DHC with all three characters in one combo as x-23s supers go into thors and thor’s mighty tornado goes into sphere flame for a ton of damage.
X-23(Ankle Slice), Thor(Mighty Smash), Doctor Doom(Plasma Beam) is my current team and its been working well for me.
