Giving up streetfighter

If you’re already experiencing other sleep problems like a irregular cycle or general insomnia, then I don’t think this would be that unusual.QUOTE]

ha ha yea im also a very light sleeper anyway, and currently working nights so i have to sleep during the day. my window is covered with heaps of tinfoil to keep the light out its too sunny during summer!

oh and id +ve rep u if i could ha ha!

good words of advice. i guess this further blurs the lines between streetfighter and hard drugs ha ha!

I got my friends addicted…

I agree with you. What I left out of my post is to basically secure your future by working towards it. Once you have achieved the level of success that you desire, only then should you endulge in the pleasures of gaming :). Now, I’m not saying to avoid playing games while you’re studying for your carreer. That would be crazy lol! I just think that gaming should be done in moderation until the day someone can wake up and say to themselves, “I’ve made it.” And no, I do not regret the fun I had with the game. My only regret is having lost my focus on the important things in life while I was playing.

Peace

Haha! Thanks, man. I appreciate the thought. :wgrin:

I know some people who skipped out on what life had to offer because of Street Fighter. Had they found the balance, they would have been in much better shape today. I just don’t want this to happen to anyone. It’s not cool to be in your 30’s and not living the life you thought you would have.

Your last few posts were awesome, something some poeple need to read and really think about.

I focused on my education and career, sacrificing a LOT to get that started…now I am well into my career, pretty successful, and I have all kinds of time and money to pursue my hobbies.

The 4-6 years it will take you to finish school and start your career will pay off for the next 30-60 years at least…some people need to think about that math.

I like turtles

Sigh, I guess I should start doing my hwk instead of procrastinating. I too realize that I waste a lot of time on my hobbies (gaming, judo, etc), but they’re so satisfying. It’s hard to dedicate yourself to something that’s boring, as opposed to something that rewards you immediately.

In anycase I’ve been playing sf4 less and less these days anyways because it takes way too long to find a match online, and when I finally find something with 4+ bars of connection, only half the time will I be able to get into their room. =(

Good post mastermalone. I definately agree with what you said. I had a similar realization last summer. I had just moved, had some shit job at 7-11 and I was thinking… I can’t afford shit, I hate this job, blah blah blah. I soon after got a job workin with Rogers at one of their call centers as a Customer Relations rep. It’s still a customer service job, yeah, but this is one that pays way more than any job I’ve had and I really pushed myself after the new year to advance and have already started to make waves on possible further promotions.

Since I got SF4 I notice that I have been spending probably too much time doing this sort of thing. I was fairly focused beforehand but the past few weeks I feel as though I’ve just been doing enough to get by pretty comfortably but not really gunning for the best I could do in order to show people “hey this guy’s legit!” and further a possible career there and increase my pay!

You kinda woke me to my senses man. I’m gunna go call my family then sit down with my woman and watch her play Mario Party 8. Your family is the most important thing in your life. I’m fairly financially stable, I have an awesome family and a wonderful girl. I can work to make these things better. I gotta spend time grinding these skills and level up my life. Hahaha. Thanks man. I think I’ll thank you in a few months when I seal the deal for this new position I want/will get! (hopefully now at least!)

MasterMalone’s post hit the nail on the head for me.

I think many of my friends think I am just trying to belittle them by sharing these same exact thoughts with them. Despite me being on SRK, a hardcore gamer community, complaining about spending too much time on Street Fighter seems ironic, but I refuse to ever take a videogame seriously to the point where I’m becoming obsessed with it day in and day out.

I just do not understand how guys like Wong, Valle, Gootecks, etc. can center their lives around a videogame…but at the same time I’m a firm believer that you are given the right to do whatever you want with your life and no one can take that from you.

I am just extremely curious how these guys make money traveling so often.

I have had to take an enforced step back from SF4 online recently, I was spending way too much time on it, thinking about it all the time, playing 6-8 hrs after work!! It was definitely havin a bad impact on my life (cos its so awesome).

After havin 15 yrs of very limited amounts of human opposition, the online opportunities of SF4 were too much - overload! My prowess increased massively as I already had pretty good thumbs skills and I could murder people who were previously a small challenge for me.

Also, the competitive nature of ranked battles was making me irritated as I was spending a lot of time in a stressful, competition based activity. I’ve probably played 3 days in the last week for a about 4hrs total and I’m actually enjoying the game again, although I’m not improving like I was. Oh well, you can’t have it all…

This is THE best post in this thread and one of the best posts I’ve read on SRK!

People who are addicted to this game need to heed this man’s words. I played SF2 during high school but never too much to the point where it affected my grades. I had no time during College and University so I completely skipped SF3. SF4 got me all hyped up all over again and so I went out and bought a PS3 and a TE stick just to play this game. Initially I spent a lot of time playing, staying up late, getting in to work late, but I quickly took a step back and only play 2-3 times per week now and not more than a couple of hours at most during a single sitting.

There are more important things in life, but it’s also important to enjoy your free time. Play when all the important things are done or when you’re taking a short break. Don’t play and leave all the important things undone. That’s the key!

A really nice post, man.

My girls hates it when I play SF. It’s usually me playing SF4 and while she’s talking to me on the phone on a weekday. She complains that all I don’t pay attention and just say yes to everything and I complain that I’m getting my ass kicked because i can’t focus. Is this an addiction?

I’m pretty sure they have day job dude. Plus if SF4 is their passion, then let it be. It’s like if basketball/videogame/insert hobby here, was your passion and you played 2 to 3 hour a day after work, what’s wrong with that? As long as you have your shit together, you can spend time enjoying what you do and passionate about.

one solution to that… get your g/f into streetfighter as well (somehow)! then she may not mind AS much ha ha v unlikely i know.

Haha, I tried to teach my girl to play SF. She got hadokens on a D pad after like 5 tries but she likes games like Fallout 3 and Oblivion more.

Don’t bother. Getting women to get into fighting games is as good as dead. They all would rather play simple stuff like shooters instead. (Unless said fighter has tv anime in it)

So far, I’ve seen two women who played fighters in my lifetime. My friend’s girlfriend, who I’m not jealous of because she’s ugly (Sorry Jose, but it’s the truth) and someone who say me playing King of Fighters: Maximum Impact 2 in the student lounge.

So there’s your chances, one in a million. Now of course, I’m hearing that King of Fighters is having a simple mode with easier inputs. (Anime + Simplicity = Women gamers) So, I’m going to see if that works out for me.

wow i guess im pretty lucky my current g/f wants me to teach her to play and stuff, she cant do much yet but i got SF3 3rd strike and she played that a fair bit. she was pulling off supercancels with ryu a fair bit altho i think that was more down to keyboard mashing than intentional ha ha. next on the list is resi 5

Havent played for a week now , well I did few days ago only 2 matches and turned it off. I think its working, I think this thread kinda helped lol too, im glad and seriously feel good.

yea i took a break for like a week and had a few games online yesterday for like 30mins or so and havent had combos running thru my head afterwards. then again i won most of my games so i dont have any real reason to analyse my game too much atm ha ha.
