Giving up streetfighter

not as bad as the title sounds, but ive had to take a break from playing streetfighter online atm. the reason?

i cant stop thinking about new strategies to try against people, or god forbid i lose a match that i KNOW i should have won (shoryu spammer, airfireball spammer, headstomp spam!!!) its keeping me awake at night! seriously! ive only recently started sleeping better since stopping playing i was getting like 3 hours a nite for the last 3-4 days before that.

does anybody else have streetfighter on the brain as much as this???

i’m not going to play online anymore
it’s making me worse hah

This.

It seems zack has the right idea. Online seriously** IS NOT** the way to go. I bet you 25% of the matches you lost online, would be wins offline.

if u shoulda won the the match, u woulda. if ur losing to fire ball spammers and head stomp spammers and ur not learning. just means u need to do something new or arent as good as u think u are.

This is correct, but not for online. Delay/lag causes matches all the time. The problem with delay is, it’s usually one sided.

I’m thinking about quitting too. I spend too much time playing, watching videos, posting on this forum and just thinking about this game. Never intended to get this serious. And it’d take an even greater investment to proceed now that I’m in G2. I need to get some other game to play or just start reading a good book or something.

when World warrior was out and i was a kid i would spend like 8 hours a day playing at the local pizza spot…they even had a super sf II machine at my high school in socal. back then there was no resource like this website so i can imagine if they had the net back then, i would have Street fighter on the brain as well. our resources were arcades and a couple of vid game magazines that really only gave big coverage when the console versions came out. now you have acsess to street fighter 24/7 basically, whether its the actual game or just surfing the web gathering info and strategies. its easy to get consumed with all the info thats out there. im glad i dont take this as serious as i used to.

People will always find excuses for losing but because SF IV has online play it’s quite easy to just blame that.

Yes online can be laggy but you don’t blame online as a whole for that, you blame that game in particular for being laggy.

I myself don’t get laggy games very often, if I lose it’s usually because I was outplayed, did stupid shit or my execution was sloppy.

head stomps, air fireballs, and srk’s are all punishible attacks.try blocking then punishing

All I can think about is SFIV, I start talking to my co-workers about it as I am building the 787 and it gets me so pumped that I have to play it as soon as I get home!

So Im guessing the point of this thread is that Street Fighter IV is a lethal drug, and it interferes with daily life. If so, nice lol.

^ but this is just normal behavior as far as i’m concerned…

I play from 7:30pm-10,11pm at night then watch match videos during the day

I lurk SRK/Gootecks/Scrubsport/Alphaism all day

don’t be alarmed its okay to become OC about it

play something else if it was ment to be you’ll be back at it.

craze

…at the end of the day its just a game and is ment to be fun.

i am also addicted

I agree man , I feel the same way . Too much time playing , and other shit , I also never intended to get this serious. I am missing out on so many other activities and shit , specially now that its summer , gotta do something with the game , I honestly got the idea of selling it , just so I stay away from it. Its addicting.
I honestly feel like those crazy gamblers who just want to play everytime, anytime specially now with champion mode … I have become an addict lol. There are times I turn the system off…then lie down …cant sleep so I turn it on again and just keep playing, its Too much .
As much as I love SF …I Gotta take a break =) I need to snap out of it im turning into a zombie. Maybe ill sell it for now, or hide it from myself, then I can finish reading Malcolm X , start summer school , eat more , smoke less, join the gym . Im 26 , married , need to do so much with my life , if I keep playing like I do … I wont get nowhere in life , only in championship mode.
FKIN INTERNET. If it werent online I guess it would have not been this bad.

thanks for the ‘advice’ but these were both one offs that i havent experienced before. the head stomping was against seth (like the 2nd time ive ever played him)

i dont recall saying i was good in my original post for all you know i could claim to be the crappiest player ever.
this thread is meant to be for a bit of fun not to ‘point out’ what im obviously doing wrong i can figure that myself thanks.

When I was in kindergarten, I used to look forward to getting out of school so that I could run home and hop on my sega genesis and put in street fighter 2 turbo. I don’t remember being able to do too much, but damn it was so fun destroying the cars and barrels. I remember sometimes the game wouldn’t work and i’d have to blow intro the cartridge. Man, those were the days.

To me this is just an extension of those days. I’ve waited too long for a game like this

wow thats pretty harcore (bad) dude. im kinda glad that im not at that state yet, although i have just got a TE fightstick arrive at my house which ill get to play in about 3 months so that mite get me started all over having the ‘arcade experience’ at home ha ha. then again SF4 is actually the only game i have right now so got over a years worth of stuff to catch up on when i get back.

but yea if it wasnt for the internet and stuff then it wouldnt be anywhere near as bad im forever browsing the forums adding bits and bobs here and there trying to improve my technique etc i dont think ive ever been this harcore into a game in my life to be honest. also none of my ‘real’ friends play streetfighter at all so the online mode has totally opened my eyes how different it is to playing against the computer ha ha.

You’re losing against srk and hadouken spammers?

You just have to step back and analyze every possible option that you could do wheny ou see something like a hadouken coming your way. Its like… oh shit a hadouken from far away… what can I do? 1) Jump straight up and be safe 2) Jump toward my opponenet at the appropriate time so that I don’t get counter SRKed 3)Throw a counter hadouken 4)Throw out an attack that goes through hadoukens.

Get that through your mind… now do the same thing when someone throws out a SRK and they whiff. Do the same when someone is getting up and throwing up attacks or throws. You just have to analyze and understand all of your options from every prespective, and then when you realize all of your options you have to constantly be mixing it up or your opponent will see what you’re going to do next and counter it.

A great trick against SRK spammers is that 80% of them time when they wake up they do a SRK… so walk up to them, block the SRK and then as they land throw out a huge combo/SPD/throw/whatever. You can probably do this 2 times in a row, third time they almost always throw, so counter the throw or hit them with a mid attack cause newbs love to crouch block all day.

Don’t quit SF4. Just play a lot less… no need to be playing 4+ hours a day of this game especially online.

Lol, I love how people jump into these threads trying to wave their elite e-peens around. Ah, evilweevle, you sound like you just suck, have you ever heard of blocking?! I’m sure if he wanted tips, he’d be posting in the match-up threads, or maybe asking for help.

Anyways, I know what you mean. Sometimes, you just get so fatigued from SFIV on the mind and playing it for so many extended hours that dumb mistakes start to appear. It’s ironic you made this thread cause I was thinking the same thing. I’ve had finals this week and a heap of meetings all early, and I couldn’t sleep due to SF on the brain. I had to take a break after playing several matches, and went up against a fairly run-of-the-mill shoto. As Vega, I kept sliding, and I was like “stop it…” slide->punish “k, seriously, stop sliding…” slide->punish “ah, dammit, I’m done.”

Hah, sometimes, you just stop thinking and start becoming a zombie @@.

So yeah, definitely take a break. I actually picked up some cheap games to fill my time away from SF, did some achievement runs for old games, played some NES, etc…
