Giving up streetfighter

I love SFIV, but I would never put the game ahead of much greater and important responsibilities/activities such as school/work/family/hanging out with friends/etc.

I just don’t know how the hell players like Justin Wong, Gootecks, etc. can make this game their life. All the power to them though.

ha ha it seems ive touched a nerve with this thread ive had like insane amounts of negative feedback for it so far!

so yea this is basically a ‘streetfighter is taking over my life’ thread. not a ragequitting thread (100 games 0% disconnect :D) or a ‘help me with my game’ thread.
some people just need to lighten up JUST a tad…

Delay more often than not IS one sided. I’ve had enough experience with online to know this.

I’m really enjoying the game so far. Mainly the thrill of playing versus people again with online mode.

When MvC2 comes out though, SF4 will most likely take a back seat.

Online play is just a test on how patient you are.

Just find a good connection.

IF the connection shows as just blinking, it doesnt mean NO connection, it just means the PS3 or 360 network cant tell how good the connection is at that moment.

Just connect to it, and try it out. If on the lobby screen you STILL get a bad connection, back out and try again.

No one needs to be playing with lag. Just wait till you get a good connection.

Also, if you think about it, even matches you MAY have won offline, there are other distractions than lag. Offline, you have loud people in your face, and you may lose just to the HYPE.

Good luck everyone, see ya at Evo 2009!

Wtf? Then whats the point of this thread exactly? You said you’re losing matches that you know you should’ve won… I’m trying to help you establish that you can change the coulda shoulda woulda to wins instead of loses and keep you from getting on SRK and making thread in the SF4 forum about how emo you are because you lose to stupid ass shit. You can blame lag all you want, but if you are just making this thread about how you cry because of lag then thats just sad.

How old are you?

ha ha how old are you exactly? obviously not old enough to read as if you look through ANY of my previous posts, do i even MENTION lag just once? finished reading? well then you ll know that I havent even brought up lag at all, other people have not me! fair enough lag is annoying, but its a part of online gaming and im not exactly goin to set myself up for a tiriade of abuse by saying its the cause of me losing games.

i guess i lost the matches becuase i wasnt good enough. there i said it! but if one person can honestly put there hands up and say they havent every once in a while lost a match to someone who has spammed a move over and over then my hats go off to them.

you think im emo because i say that im thinking of different tactics to put into my play at nite and other times during the day, then you win i guess im as emo as they come.

why cant people just read something properly before jumping to conclusions and spouting off random crap that has no relevence. i guess its too much effort to read these days. thankfully theres people on here who share my views in thinking that streetfighter is becoming a bit of an obsession.

the reason this thread is here is for some lighthearted banter, but i guess stuff like that generally isnt welcome in SRK from the impression im getting.

Hmm. It’s completely the other way around for me.

Besides Street Fighter, my only other major game addiction was World of Warcraft. Compared to that, SFIV is extremely convenient.

I think it’s great. SFIV is one of the few games where I can play for 30 minutes and feel like I really got something out of it. In fact, I generally avoid extended play sessions because my execution and mental awareness tends to deteriorate the longer I play.

All I need to feel good about a SFIV play session is one good back and forth hard fought match. Don’t even have to win. I just need one match that makes me go, “wow, that was awesome!”.

Usually I always have two games I play at all times. One normal game, which at the moment is the X-Men Origins: Wolverine game, that I play and beat and move on to a new one. And one constant game, that I am always playing a little bit every day. Which is now, and for the foreseeable future will be, Street Fighter IV.

OMFG…my wife caught me doing this the other day.

We were watching a show and she saw my hands twitching in the air (no stick, I was just imagining one was there) and she was like…WTF are you doing? Sezure much?

I was like…uh…uh…nothing baby…I’m absolutely not practicing combos while we watch House.

ha ha thats awesome, im playing with a pad at the moment and have the occasional button mashing in between menus when im not actually playing but i havent reached the next stage of evolution by practicing in the air yet. altho im sure that will change when i get my stick!

I suck hardcore in SFIV…I pretty much have no excuse cuz I went from the 360 d-pad, to the fight pad, and now the TE arcadestick. But still, I can’t stop playing. At work I spend most of my day on the forums or watching vids on youtube of ST matches. I can’t stop thinking about it, trying to think of new combos and what not. I write to my friends of the things I read or seen. Now I want to get as much of SF as I can because of an event coming next saturday.

SFIV is indeed crack.

damn , practicing combos while with gf around okay…
but practicing combos with wife and no stick … dude you r nuts haha .

The things SF does to some people. I payed $320+ for the fight stick ( yea i know! ) and I told my wife I bought if for $50 loll. She would have tripped lol. And payed $35+ for battop + octogonal shipped, she thinks it came with the te stick loll.

BTW theres nothing wrong with this thread, those who got issues stay out of it , nerds just love attention and keep postin garbage in threads , seriously in every freakin thread I am reading theres always kids that are complaining about something , then the thread gets locked. What a bad rep.

so true^^^

Eh, I only play people with 3+ bars and I still get the ocassional lag.

Don’t give up, there’s many ways to counter (ESPECIALLY spammers).

I’ve had matches where I get DC’d on the second round, and I assume the other guy ragequit on me… only to have that same guy msg me that I am a DC’ing scrub, go figure.

If you search around the character’s sub-forums you will find a lot of useful information concerning match-ups and strategies to use, so that facing “spammers” will no longer be a problem.

I had matches where we both got DC also on the second round, and we both were still connected to PSN network and had no lag, it happened twice, and both times I was losing lol I was happy , once I was getting destroyed by a crazy Dhalsim, I seriously am so happy it got DC.

Second time it was against another guy told the him it wasnt me that DC I wrote him some crazy long messeges , then he believed me , I found him online again just to make him happy and played him again to be fair , also gave him a mercy round, lucky I won that one . He was probably pissed . Poor guy.

Neeeerds! :arazz:

wow, people are quitting already? I didn’t expect this to happen until after evo, tbh. w/e, this is kinda part of the cycle. People stuck around for this game a little longer than some of the SF3 games. Us old folks are kinda used to seeing people drop after they’ve burned themselves out on the game, though.

good luck, and see you again when the next game comes out. :coffee:

Leveling in WoW is the only real time consuming part. Otherwise its 4-12 hours a week depending on content if you have people who are competent… PvP isn’t exactly in depth and that’s just how much you want to play. WoW within itself is not something that takes a lot of time outside of leveling.

ya i think they laced the game with crack just like 7-11 and ther slurpees lol…at one point i had to take the gane and actually put it in my storage room…ironicly enuf its also where i store my paintball gear, snowboard, art suplies ect…all the things i should be doing instaid of playing SF and lurking on this damn website lol

Arenaing…
You need to grind all the pvp gear, and need to find a partner for the 3 brackets, and be on at the same time as them (wich is the worst part)
And if you want an alt, well forget it hehe

I was a 100% PvP player, so it took me a lot of time, but after missing gladiator by 5 rating I gave up, SF4 is a bless
