Gief nerfs still rolling in

As long as you are able to EX SPD and then lp gh over to do a cross up it wont matter as long as short jump puts you on one side where as regular jump puts you on the other side of your opponent. I just hope this wont throw off my spacing to much but i may be an adjustment not sure if its a nerf but time will tell.

Maybe WorstGeifEVER can speak to this but I got a chance to play super today and far s.lp to s.mp still combo’s but it was very hard for me to hit. I would say 1 out of 10 tries I hit it.

Dude, Ryu has no more antiair dragon punch trade combos (ex fireball or ultra), less damaging dragon punch (in combination with no antiair trades, this means lots of characters will win in damage on jump-in trades), and no more fireball to super traps. Gief might be in a better situation than Ryu is in Super.

As for the jump change, whether it’s a nerf is gonna take some time to figure out. It’s a change for sure, but I’m not sure it’s a bad one.

also someone noted that green hand recovery was faster? and his dash speeds were different? (faster)

can anyone shed some light to this? truth or myth?

They couldn’t possibly be so foolish as to give us a safer green hand could they?
I havent heard anything solid on this. While I would love to have it… I just don’t see them making so grievous an error in judgement.

Other than the EX version, Green Hand is awful in SF4…what would be wrong with making it safer?

I’m not saying it would be bad for gief, quite the opposite. Just that it seems to make sense as is in sf4, and if even jab green hand were say, safe on block, shenanigans could ensue and gief could as a result become far more dangerous than he should be.
I love gief I want him to be strong like bear, but I dont want him to be the sagat of ssf4.

I actually found it a fair bit easier, but I did it faster than in vanilla. That might be where you went wrong.

It looked like you have less time after following up spd with a green hand, like Honda almost had the advantage after. Sure you were timing the green hand right?

I think, like others said, the Ultra two is to catch anyone sleeping on Zangief (if we can call him that anymore) Like someone earlier said that will end when people get used to it. It’s really sad that I’m likely now to take up another character. I’m real tired of already having to chase Ryu, Akuma, Sagat, Ken, Seth and Blanka. Re: A nerf is not a nerf if it happens across the board. the sagat match will always be hard, its a historically hard match for gief. even so given with other chars bullshit being toned down, the matchup can only get better for gief.

LoL calm down. Im sure alot of people here will agree with you on all of that except j.MK…thats just rediculous. Gief’s normals are fine, don’t hate on the best air to ground move ever. Nothing even remotley broken about it.

I’m not sure if I was timing the green hand whiff right. I could have tried to do it faster, but muscle memory was making me do it at vanilla sf4 speeds, so this is unconfirmed.

When i played gief(im GrapplerXcross from the front page) i felt no noticeable changes (i only played one match though). He still seems as strong as he was. Dont lose hope before you play, guys!

Actually I thought it was only safe on knockdown, not just hit.

And Jazz, I don’t think anyone here has eally had anything to say about the lariat nerf, we knew it was coming and frankly it didn’t effect Gief’s gameplay once you go beyond “I want to play as the big wrestler guy” level of competence.

yes EX green hand is ONLY SAFE ON KNOCKDOWN not on hit… and if exgreen hand was SAFE on hit too. that would freaking be sooo amazing…
