Explain Transformers then.
TMNT 2 had more competition to contend with then the first movie did in 2014. It had to compete against X-Men, and Through the Looking Glass. Being a huge merchandise driven franchise the Turtles movie can take the hit if it can sell a shit ton of toys.
Transformers isn’t really a reboot. There’s never been a live action Transformers.
There could be other things at play for Turtles. Maybe people saw en mass but didn’t like the first one. Maybe it wasn’t properly promoted or as you point out it had better movies as competition.
Transformer movies are dipping in money as well, do not get me wrong they still make a fuck ton but the last one profits was significantly lower.
The last Transformers made a billion in the global box office. It only made slightly lower than Dark Side of the Moon.
Transformers movies ain’t going anywhere because the US and China are stupid.
