I love the first GB movie but this situation reminds me of back when the Michael Bay TMNT was first announced. I saw everyone getting mad but I realized I didn’t care about the franchise that much and hadn’t since I was a child.
I guess what I’m saying is I just don’t really have it in me to get angry about a ghostbusters movie.
(Do you have a link to this information, jae hoon?)
I guess I could see a large amount of money being taken about the amount of CGI present. Maybe even a decent chunk of change just getting permits for modern day NYC and I guess maybe shooting in the subway.
Still, $100 million seems like a lot for how lackluster the trailer was, especially since there weren’t even any of those Michael Bay-esque explosions or demolitions.
He is 100% spot on the trailer has none of the humor or horror the series is known for it just looks too cartoony with it’s neon colored ghosts and has none of the broke nigga home feel of the original.
I don’t think it looks like a steaming pile of shit. Like, Gods of Egypt i could 100% tell that was going to be a steaming pile of shit (and what do you know, it is a steaming pile of shit). But this movie, I’m on the fence about. Could it be bad? Yes but I could see the movie being decent, maybe even good. I think people are mad that it’s not keeping the “charm” of the old movie or old movie’s humor. I find this a good thing. Why should it replicate the old movies? It’s a new cast with different styles of humor than the old cast. There’s new technology to play with (I thought the ghosts actually looked creepy). I mean, I’m not rushing out there to get a ticket but I don’t think it’s going to be a steaming pile of shit either. I’ll wait for the reviews to see if it’s worth going to theaters but I think people are overreacting.
The trailer looks goo, but it lacks all the charm of what i loved of the original movies and the original cartoon, so i will pass.
If this ends like Jem’s reboot i will laugh my ass off.
But with that logic, why make a reboot at all? If they want to make something fresh and original, then they should just make something fresh and original. The new Ghostbusters is going to be poo-mediocre at best because they decided to try and have their cake and eat it too. Most remakes/rebooted that forsake the original material are critically panned, and you can ask the director of the new Fantastic Four movie how that went.
He said the movie will likely be “successful”, which just means it will make its money back at least. That’s probably true between people being stupid–not that everyone who sees this is necessarily an idiot–and it obviously trying to pander to women & “feminists” and Melissa McCarthy being popular for some reason (but I repeat myself).
Being “successful” is a far cry from being “good” though. Sure, the trailer could be well non-indicative of the movie, but at the very least, then that means they fucked up pretty bad with the trailer itself. It may not be absolute levels of trash like Gods of Egypt was obviously going to be, but right now, it really doesn’t seem like better than mediocre at best from little else we actually know about the movie other than it has “vaginas! How revolutionary!” and that Chris Hemsworth’s character is basically Rule 63 Janine in this movie.
