Ghostbusters II Part 2 - The Sequel

they rebooted Judge Dredd and the new movie is 23948230423 times better than the original. They rebooted Mad Max and we all know how good that movie is. Batman gets rebooted every now and then and the Dark Knight trilogy was pretty good.

There are more but these movies are reboots that are good that don’t exactly match what previous movies with the same name do. Just because it has ghostbusters in it doesn’t mean it has to match the originals. That would be far worse and that’s honestly where a lot of reboots fail. All a reboot needs to do is be “in the same universe”. What I mean is that you have to know what you’re watching. Batman (1989) and The Dark Knight are very different movies but you know you’re watching Batman.

Melissa McCarthy and the director both did “Spy” together which I thought was very well done. Had a lot of laughs and my GF enjoyed it too. Not saying that means this movie will be automatically good but again, I think people are overreacting because it’s not matching the original, which is shouldn’t do.

On both of these that’d be like saying that SF4 rebooted SF2.

no, they’d be more towards the New Tomb Raider games. Same characters, different environments, story, etc

I wasn’t saying that original movie specifically are better than their reboots, I just said original source material in general. (Also, come on man we all know that the original Judge Dredd was campy 90’s shit that was a gimme to feed into your point.) If you go back and look at all the movies you’ve listed off so far, they all have their own source material outside of movies that they can work with and still make a successful product (with the exception of Mad Max, which at any rate has never been a trash film.).

The key difference though, is that all those movies had one thing in common: None of those movies completely rebooted the franchise JUST for the sake of pandering to a specific audience. Tumblrinas wanted a movie they could relate to that wasn’t a rom-com or a Mean Girls type of movie or something, so they chose a franchise that hasn’t really been visited in quite a while in order to push their agenda which is “nerdy women who aren’t necessarily attractive can still be cool and do the same things guys do.”

The reason people know this movie is gonna be hot garbage is because most people don’t want one of their favorite old movies or franchises to be used as a tool to cater to a specific niche audience, when the original material was meant to be enjoyed by a widespread market, and it’s a slap in the face to all the hard work that the creators of that media. Especially when it’s used not only to target a niche audience, but to specifically cater to people for a political or social agenda as a whole.

The current Mad Max isn’t a reboot. Just because they didn’t use Gibson doesn’t mean that they’ve eschewed everything before it. The Dredd movie was just them doing the movie right. They weren’t trying to jump start the franchise, just make a good movie with the character.

Dredd movie had nothing to try and reboot. Same situation as the Fantastic 4 movies except Dredd did it right.

Dredd is so fucking good. Why the director wasn’t hired to do the Robocop remake is a mystery to me.

Actually, Robocop is a prime example of a bad reboot.

(Also, who said anything about it having to match the original to be good? No one has done so, at least recently. Must you always make strawmen, Mood4food77?)

It’s funny you keep bringing that up as a point of defense, though, given this movie is obviously trying super hard to ape off the originals in terms of what little basics we know: four Ghostbusters, one of them is black while the other three are white & in the sciences, Slimer (though I’ll grant he may well just be cameo/“easter egg”), a car that’s a hearse, trouble that originates from the underground of NYC, getting slimed & its related jokes, sexy secretary of opposite gender with glasses, possession, and a few other things.

I couldn’t care less if it had much in common with the originals, personally, other than not crapping their legacies and using the basic assets well and respectfully since the original two movies were actually good. This movie has just seemed rather…lazy from its inception.

Could it be good? Yes. Will it be good? It seems doubtful at present, and the most annoying thing is that if it does fail, then basically faux “feminists” (and too-often-clueless Hollywood) are going to blame it failing entirely on “misogyny” when that’s actually a pretty minuscule portion of why people are actually against it currently, i.e. you could have easily found four funnier female actors if you actually tried.

And as a borderline-retarded rabbit babe. But this looks to be a step down from The Looney Tunes Show.

Notice that they also included the designs from the pilot promo intro on the lower left. Nice touch.

Actually they were, Dredd 2 and Dredd 3 scripts were already in the works before the first reboot.

Because Dredd made $15,000,000 less than it’s production budget and that’s including global sales. Sad that we will never get to see Dredd sequels, they sounded really badass too.

@Mood4food77 All your examples of “good” reboots hurt your argument rather than help because all of them retained the qualities that made people like them in the first place while trying new things compared to the Ghostbusters trailer which clearly has none of the comedy, horror, or ghetto broke nigga feel of the original.

Just curious what about the trailer did you enjoy? I have a hard time imagining you actually laughed at any of the cringe worthy jokes.

I think the closest thing you can compare this to would be the Star Trek reboot. They took a lot of core elements and pursued them in a different way. We won’t know how faithful this movie would be to the material it is inspired from until it comes out. It has the very base elements in place (there are ghost and they bust them). As for all the other things that come with it, that’s up in the air.

Didn’t know Dredd did so bad. I knew it didn’t make much money in theaters but I thought I’d heard it did well in the home market.

It really is too bad that we will most likely never see a sequel. I remember seeing Dredd on a whim and it ended up being one of my favorite movies of the year.

Dredd was badass as hell but appeals to only a tiny market, which is why most movies now are just cookie cutter bullshit, that and political correctness.

That is what i enjoyed about the first 2 GB films…it was funny and at times pretty scary.

That Titanic scene in GB2 still bothers me…

My cousins keep telling me that Gods of Egypt is actually good, so i am going to watch it this Monday, they say that is like a live action Saint Seiya but with Egypt mythos instead of Greek mythos.

Your cousins are talking some high level bullshit. Even if they used racially correct actors the movie would still have sucked. Bald dude is jealous of dude with glorious full head of hair, the parting of the river is some tsunami pish. Avoid.

soooo im watching this black nerd comedy review of the trailer and he got invited to see the trailer wit a big group. apparently their planning a whoooole bunch of ghostbusters stuff. like a whole section of the studio lot is now specifically for ghostbusters…they also have made a bunch of the fan groups who have been around for a long time official. so they dont have to worry about being sued or cease and desist orders either.

You’re right…https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aW52cvs5Dcg

That’s the comics for ya’

That is why I’m Bible thumping for them.
The original canon is secured in good hands and is still ongoing!! Everyting in the first 2 movies, and the 09 game, has been ongoing for the past couple of years.

The team working on the comics also grew up with the franchise, which is why you see neat little Easter eggs and details.
Plus…they’ve unleashed ** Zero F@#ks-given/ Shin Janine** :

Yeah I’ve been going to 2nd & Charles for my comics now. And keep asking about the new issue each time I go. There’s even a Mighty Morphin Power Rangers comic now. Both have green ranger on the cover. They get the Street Fighter one too.

Why the fuck are the Turtles there?
