I like McCarthy a lot and haven’t disliked any of her movies same with the other chick from bridesmaids. And yes those chose the big black woman for the power of the group. But when I watched the new “Vacation” I didn’t compare I let is stand on its own lol had to do it.
I will do the same with this film to a franchise I love so much, , Aykroyd has signed off on it then I can trust him I would hope.
It looks really cartoony, like live action Scooby Doo movies. If those clips are the best stuff they can present as a trailer, then that is not a good sign.

She is essentially an unfunny version of Chris Farley doing the exact same jokes, there isnt any acting role out there that couldnt be done better than a mannequin.

I don’t know about Aykroyd’s “blessing” on this meaning all that much. He unfortunately seems have slowly gone off his rocker the more he’s aged. I wouldn’t say he’s legitimately insane, but some of the stuff he’s said tends to be…“out there” at times.
I’m not sure how that would make it less racist if she’s “legit acting like she always” does. If anything, then that would arguably give them more credit towards Hollywood being racist (and otherwise biased) since it would be (more) proof that minorities primarily only get to play token roles based almost entirely on stereotypes if they can get any significant roles at all.
Either way, it’s still rather trite. I mean, it’s not like Winston was the “ghetto, loud one” of the original group even if a) he wasn’t actually a scientist & thus implicitly the least intelligent, especially by Hollywood story-telling standards, and b) he’s generally the least popular character of the main four. Winston was likable; Lady Blackula isn’t thus far.
I always thought Winston was the one who kept everyone else even keel, never had an issue with him.
Basically. Winston being the layman of the group helped with that, but due to that, he tends to be the most “subtle”, “background” character of the main four. So ironically he’s the exact opposite of the current black woman: relatively quiet unless riffing off one of the others, but likable despite that. About the only thing they have in common is the driving thing that someone already pointed out.
For the record, I literally meant “least popular” rather than “(most) disliked”. People generally like Winston from what I know. It’s just that someone has to be the “least popular” if everyone is liked and he’s generally it for the reasons above.
Akroyd has such a hard-on for continuing the franchise that he’s like Teen Titans fans that watch Teen Titans Go: so desperate he’ll take literally ANYTHING with the name on it.

I don’t think this movie deserves a thread. No one liked the idea, the trailer manifested the shit expectation we had, now all that is left is the actual movie. I will pass this movie unless i see good reviews of it and when that happens, then there should be a thread. Right now this doesn’t deserve to be even talked about.

steriotypes are somewhat based in truth. well. thats her…not a gimmick. shes that person 100% and i actually find her work funny on snl. unlike a good portion of the cast.
