thanks guys, I’ll remember this stuff.
I really starting to think about me and Anji. I mean why do I play him really. There is not really anything I cant do or a setup I don’t use in fact I think my Anji game is more complete than with any other character, but when I look at wins and loses I would have to say that my Chipp- first love, Sol, Ky and Baiken-best character in the game I think, are far better.
Not that my Anji sucks or anything, it just seams that he is always fighting an uphill battle. Don’t get my wrong He is still my tourny character and when Reload hits manstream I sure of it. Just hate that he really has to work so hard and like Chipp you just can’t make too many mistakes. I just think in the back of my head that maybe I should have a back up character for some match ups that goes against everything I belive really.
Welcome to the delima I think most Anji players go through at one point or another. It can be really frustraiting to play with Anji sometimes knowing that nearly every match you play, you are the one that really has to make the climb and be near perfect to win. There are days when I sit and ask myself why I don’t become good with a top tier character. In all honesty I think it boils down to liking the challenge. Becoming recognized with Anji is a feat that the GG community would be impressed with. Being able to take him deep into a major tourney shows some real skill and solid play. I just like the idea of being known by my character. When someone starts to look at a character differently because of how you play them, that’s when you know you’ve got some skill and started doing some impressive things. No matter what, when it comes tourney time I’ll always be playing Anji, even if it does put me at a little disadvantage. Don’t worry though, like i said a lot of Anji players go through this I think.
You hit it on the head.
we gonna’ play the money matches/round robin on xx or #r?
david, i’ll take your anji out!
we all know i got your faust on lock.
jkizzle.
No offense… but I have no more respect for a good Anji then I have for a top Ky, Eddie, Faust, Millia… It’s how well you play your actual game that matters. The mentality that being good with Anji is a “feat” is not really so, due to GGXX’s nature. But if you really like playing Anji that much, keep it up. America needs more players like yourself. Eat those freedom fries and those liberty shakes!
 I have no idea what I’m talking about. O_o
No offense taken, like I said it’s just kind of my own personal thinking. I feel more impressed with myself playing and sticking with Anji even though it doesn’t matter who you play. I’ve always liked playing the less popular characters in a lot of games just because I feel like all I’m doing is filling a mold if I play the most popular characters like everyone else. But I agree, it doesn’t matter if you’re using Eddie/Slayer or Anji/May you show your skill by playing well and placing in tournies. More or less I just wanted to give Lester some good reasons not to give up on Anji, there’s just not many Anji players out there, and very few good ones who use him as a main ya know. Then again I’m surprised that post I made had any sense to it, I’d been up for all of 2 minutes.
Edit - As for Anji money matches I’m up for either. If #R gets out in June like it’s supposed to I see no reason we can’t be playing it if there are enough copies around.
bomb either way
it’ll be good to see what
other cats can do with anji
You guys are right its all to simple playing a top tier character,i try to seperate my self from that group and pick oddball characters. But when you look at it this way i’ve been playing anji for a year (6 months if you exclude Ex anji) and he is my best person, I play better with him than i do anybody else any combo i do with him is just second nature. For a while i had considered dropping him until i found gamcombos and shoryuken, Hell from time to time i will get my ass literaly handed to me (baiken, etc) which doesn’t happen very often but thats justs cause im fighting someone that i’m not used to fighting other than that i can still throw down with the best of them. Not to mention my win Loss record is pretty decent with him.
My only problem is that I can’t decide who should be my main (Testament or Anji). It’s so horribly wrong when it takes me almost the entire round to kill Sol with Anji, and then I pick Testament and totally murder. I’ve always been this way though, picking low tier characters. It makes the thought of winning even sweeter against a character like Eddie or Axl. Also, I’ve been doing some re-assessment of my play style with him, and I’ve got to say, I’ve come a long way since using him way back in GGX, that’s for damn sure.
Man everyone nows anji is low tier so the fact that you can beat them with anji is humiliating, try doing a combo ending with Issa Ougi and if your close enough FRC it and do a respect which is prety much a taunt with anji. Its hilarious especially when you cancel it in to on. just have fun with him if you pull a taunt or respect with anji your probably earned the right to do so. i do this all the time and its part aof the reason i can win with him cause he has that highly annoying voice (second only to jam) and it will piss your opponent of watching anji mock him
I play Anji as my main because he’s just so damn fun and he has a lot of variety. Recently we had an Anji Battle Royale between three Stl Anji players, and all three of us played very differently. I guarantee you that if you had 3 good Sol players, they would play exactly the same (dust loops!). Theres so much variety in butterfly trap strings and because there is no guaranteed trap string, you have to mix in a lot of variety and mind-games. Do most of the top tier characters have variety like Anji does? I think not!
Also, somewhat mirroring what others have said, when you win a match with Anji, you know you’ve accomplished something. With Sol, what have you accomplished? 80% of your damage came from the same, tired combo! :lame:
Last point: when you’re winning with Anji, it just looks stylish. If an Anji player is executing his traps and is adjusting his strategy according to the actions of his opponent (baiting DP, throwing in traps, air-throw resets), then he looks like he is COMPLETLY in control of the match. Its actually pretty demoralizing for an opponent to know that if he fucks up, you’re just going to be back in that trap and you can’t ever tell whats going to happen.
Going back to controling the match, Anji has a set way to get a perfect on someone. What I mean is yes you can get perfect buy not getting hit in a match and winning but he also has a set LOOP of playing that could almost lead into it If you can get a On early
Ex The second round starts and you have a Burst and the other guy does not.
Blindly run in and hit it and get meter If you get it you are almost there.
Work you game and till you get an On( air throwing for me works well) ,
too perfect setup ending in super, then On again
into perfect setup ending in super in to On
Air combo of perfect again
Every perfect or near perfect I have had looks somewaht like that. And its over before they get off the ground really.
Glad that I can air throw like a mofo and with 100 tension=dead. That is why I really like him combos after a air throw =top tier in my book. I got 4 perfects last night and it was on my mind so…
Oh, I have another reason why I like playing Anji.
The Anji community rocks! We have probably the most active thread in this section in SRK right now, and we HAD one of the most active threads in GCC. Theres always a ton of useful info being passed back and forth, and nobody flames anyone! Also, I’ve never seen anyone NOT be helpful on an Anji thread.
You guys rock!

Top tiers are just about mashing buttons anyway.
Exactly who wants to see the same combo get abused in every match, its all to simple i like to work for my victories, not use some cheap ass ungodly powerful combo(dust loops, re launchs, infinites, non techables, unblockables, invisible overdrives that can be used time you get up, even a certain person who can used 2D as a anti air) that all top tier characters so they can turn a losing match around and bounce you off the wall so many times it makes your head hurt. This has happen to me so many times when i had half health and they were about to die . LIke some on else said ITS FUCKING WRONG!!!
Well, I never said top-tier characters are cheap. I just think they’re boring.
Also, you list “unblockables” as something that is cheap. You do play Anji, right?
Damn i forgot (Slaps self)
Just change it to tension free unblockables and it’s all good right?
But in all seriousness I really don’t think of or call the top tiers cheap anymore. Slayer’s bite infinte is the only thing you could really label as cheezy, and that’s still very difficult to do and not real difficult to avoid. You also have to remember that everyone has some real bullshit in XX. I don’t care what character you play, there is some dirty stuff you can abuse with your character somewhere in the mix. The great thing about XX is that Anji being “low tier” is not the same as low tier in other games. Anji is like a Hibiki or Yamazaki in CvS2 or Akuma/Necro in 3S. He’s definatly not top tier, but he can beat top tiers if he is played very well and uses every tool at his disposal.
I’ll drink to that! Anyone want a Hard Lemonade?
