Thanks Klaige, and I have another question that’s up for anyone to answer. What are the Butterfly trap strings? I have one butterfly trap which I’m not sure is a string or not. This guy, Kbliss4eva, told me that when doing the traps, you kinda don’t want your stuff to work perfectly. I think he may be right but I’d like to know what they are all the same. I have one which is 2K-2S-2D. Any additions will be fine, thanks.
isn’t 2p (instead of 2k) better for perfect butterfly trap?
Thats what cary says atleast
Yeah, 2K, 2S, 2D, 236S is good, but not the best.
In #R I usually use 5K, 2S, 2D, 236S. In a perfect setup I will sometimes use 2P, 5S, 2S, 2D, 236S (its character specific in #R though).
In GGXX for the most part I’ll use 2P, 5S, 2S, 2D, 236S.
You can also do 6K (FRC), 2S, 2D, 236S but I’m not the best at timing FRCs…
So anyway, tomorrow (friday) we’re having a 3-way Anji “Battle Royal” to determine the BEST STL ANJI PLAYER. Wish me luck!
I use 2p caues it is a low attack but
2p is not a low attack.
Indeed, 2p is just one of those attacks that appears to hit low, so it gets the opponent blocking low high by instinct, and making you opponent block low or high as you want is how you make butterfly traps work.
I’ve experimented with a lot more strings, the one thing I’ve found is that you just have to keep it fresh over and over, there is no end all be all string especially when people have burst, DAA, or just faultless defense. I’ve seen some crazy new #R stuff of some Anji players really using a lot of different strings and completely keeping the opponent at bay. Remember the more strings people see, the more they find ways to get out, never ever get in a rut with one or two trap strings, it’s asking for trouble.
clearly a typo my bad
thanks
I use 2K because it hits low and it doesn’t matter if they block it or not because either way, something is going to hit them and cause them to fall into the trap.
I also just do 2D-236S because it gives similar effects. I have maybe 3 strings right now that I use.
Now, for some more help (I’m a complete newb), On the last day of school, a friend of mine is bringing his ps2, and guilty gear XX will be there. My friend claims that he is going to slaughter me (although previous matches tell me otherwise) with Ky. I don’t really have a strategy for Ky with Anji, as I’ve used Sol in most of our battles. He also claims to know a Ky infinite. Can someone give me some tips on how to bring Ky down so that I may continue to laugh at my friend’s inferiority?
There is no Ky infinite; your friend is high…
Anyway… as chance would have it, I play Anji and Ky, so I might have some insight.
Most of Ky’s damage revolves around solid wakeup pressure with either 6H or HS Stun Edge, as well as a pretty decent high/low game. If he’s good, he’ll try to build up your guard gauge and then hit you with a dust or some kind of combo, which will kick the shit out of your health bar. You’re usually going to want to block low and go high on reaction when you see his dust or greed sever (the litesabre thingey). Also, don’t rely too much on autoguard… this can get you killed pretty easily.
Or, he might just play an extremely scrubby keep away and poke game. Its frustratingly effective if you don’t have much experience against it.
Specifically with Anji, there are some things to remember. If your friend is generous with vapor thrust when you butterfly trap, then make sure to bait when you think he’ll do it. Also watch out for stun dipper (the slide kick) in the same situation. Both are EXTREMELY punishable on block.
Thats all I have… anyone want to add to that?
I think he’s talking about the mini greed sever loop, FinalShowdown did on Ruin in EVO. Where he got off 3 greed severs in one combo vs Eddie, but that was only possible because of positioning. He knocked Eddie out of flight, then started the combo, so he remained high enough for juggle to work.
Yes, and needless to say there are few who can play Ky as well as FS can. Just play cautious at first and see how he plays Ky. If he whores fireballs, use the invulnerability on a hard slash fujinn to get through it and punish him. Also use effective double jumps and air dusts to position yourself into ky. If he’s not good he’s not going to be able to wakeup vapor thrust out of traps, so just trap the shit out of him.
In all honesty this matchup isn’t half bad, I would say it’s one of the few where Anji has the advantage. I know it’s not listed as a 6-4 for Anji, but I’m betting it’s close, or at least a 5.5-4.5.
acctualy hitting a character out of the air with light saber doesnt have really anythign to due with how many hits you can get it…
basic rule of thumb to get a quick jist of it(this is in XX though as reload ligth saber is not combo freindly as it was in XX)
if the first hit is a light saber usualy you can get 4 light sabers and no combo
now if you combo into light saber then you can get 3 light sabers
So basicly its best to stop at 3 light sabers and then do a combo if that is the first hit… Though timing is a bit tight once you do 3 or more as you kinda have to time each hit perfectly…
…
anyway back with some other crap…
anywho i play kbnova quite frequently when ever i travel and i can so theres just no way anji is beating ky more so then ky beats him.
I would say ky beats anji 6-4 or so. Theory fighter wise though ky beats anji much worse though. Usualy when i play kenji i just run away like a lil bitch. And try and make anji lose his patience with my zoneing etc. Theres just so much shit anji has to get through to start anything. Granted once anji gets in on ky… for most purpose he beats him fairly easily as ky is just to large of a character while ducking(even when you back dash out of butterfly traps and say you instinctivly duck low next or something anji is right on top of you. Ky is acctualy widest character in the game), and his shoryuken wiffs under to much of of anjis stuff(ky just doesnt really have a GOOD enough answer to once anji has him cornerd.)
Anyway umm yea ky just zones anji and picks and chooses his spots, and anji just has a hard time forceing anything on ky with out ky being able to react to. The match is a bit easier in reload as kys f+p wont beat many of anjis jump ins anymore(so ky has to on useing other more risky things like shoryuken or air throw).
shrug i dunno im rambling… theory fighter wise again ky just beats anji much worse then he gets beaten as i guess theory figher wise you think if played perfectly anji just has to hard of a time getting in on ky to force shit on him. But regular match wise its not as bad as there is random mix ups etc/tricks all that kinda shit. So i would say its probably 6-4 or something… Oh yea and anji has hard time punishing things that other characters can punish as well, that also sucks for him. lol
I guess I can see that, it’s just hard to imagine it because there are so few Ky players, and even fewer GOOD Ky players. More than likely I’d get my ass handed to me by someone who really played a solid Ky since I’ve yet to actually play a matchup against a good Ky.
For starters Klaige is a genius. Second of all since your so hellbent on the butterfly trap learn how to instant airdash this will come in handy (on some characters) when they try to escape with an instant backdash just run after them and go into jk-js jd this should put at a save you from a possible counter attack. Next learn his On air combo i belive its (after on of course )super jump sjk-sjs-sjHS-sj214p does a really good amount of damage depending on how you started it. I’ll show you this stuff when i get the chance to but in the mean time try it out in training modeand arcade just to get a feel for them. I’m going to agree with THE SQUELCHED also please try not to whore anjis guard point moves until you get a feel for them after a while you will know when and when not to use them anji is all about trail and error and you have along way to go i will help you out to the best of my ability but keep asking questions these people know alot more than i do.
I’ll second that. Klaige, Ukyo, Lester, and Squelched have help me so much the plight for getting ready for EVO. I’ll probably get my ass handed to me…but at least I’ll go in style.
…
If you notice PMTONEY, I’ve kinda got off of combos for a little while and went on to talking strategy, so read all of my posts before you reply to stuff in that tone.
Thanks for the ky info, and my friend is in for a surprise. Everytime we fought, I used Sol for the affect, but I guess its time to actually get serious against his Ky, I swear, he learns an overdrive and thinks he’s god. So… Any tips against Sol/Chipp?
Sol is Sol, you need to watch out for wakeup Volcanic Vipers and stay out of the dust loop (if he’s a newb player this probably won’t be an issue). Just be patient with Sol and pick your spots to poke and attack carefully. Sol out prioritizes Anji all over the damn place. Don’t swing at him in the air, Sol’s standing kick is the fastest move in the game (3 frames) and it’s mindlessly easy anti-air. Pick your setups, get him into traps and frustrate him. Autoguard is good against Sol, but as always it can’t be whored out if you want to use it properly. Learning when and how to autoguard is often times the difference between beating sol and having your ass handed to you. Don’t be afraid to burn tension with DAA’s to get out of Sol’s pressure in the corner. You never want to be in the corner, but Sol corner pressure is a real pain in the ass if you aren’t used to it. Also be wise of command grab setups, a Sol that pressures well and knows how to use the command grab is really really rough to deal with until you start learning how to deal with it.
As for Chipp, I honestly think he’s one of the most difficult characters to deal with. I have never had luck against good Chipps, they have reguarly fucked me up throughout my playing. I personally think the best way to beat Chipp is to make him come to you. 2D is a bitch, it’s fast and it beats so much of Anji’s game it’s just fucking wrong. When Chipp gets on you and gets his pressure going you need to get him off, by any means nessecary. It takes patience but you cannot rush a fight against chipp, it won’t get you anywhere. If your friend is all about whoring overdrives just learn how to block the crossup overdrive and you should be fine. Remember that chipp can beta blade out of imperfect trap setups, so bait that shit and punish him for it. Also don’t be afraid to sacrifice setups for a big damage combo. You’re fighting Chipp, punish him twice with a good combo and the match is as good as yours.
Also you guys give me way too much praise, I just know my character really well, I’ve still yet to place higher than 2nd or 3rd in a tournament, and I’ve yet to do shit in a major. Hopefully that changes this year at MWC.
…
You must mean the strategy where I do a taunt you rush in and get your ass knocked back have way across the screen by a move that never should have hit you with half the health you started off with. God man learn to accept a little help now and then. Damn try to help you out and you wanna get try and play badass JUst cause you see one really flashy combo you want to pick that person and expect to be good with him in 2 weeks get a clue. We will how well your strategy works when your anji is dancing in and out of eddies drills and unblockables. Jesus I just can’t be nice to you anymore you act like your so damn high and mighty you beat 2 people who don’t know what the fuck there doing and you think you good trust me there just the icing on the cake.
I’m going to try not to ruin this thread like i did the last one so if anybody has some tips on fighting a good johnny please reply while i go calm down I’m a pretty easy going guy and i don’t let a lot of stuff get to me but this shit just pissed me off i was just trying to give a little advice cause half the stuff he’s reading he probably can’t even get started.
I apologize for that post just needed to let out some steam,. but still against sol and chipp sol player will almost always screw something up and thats when you should attack lets say when sol try his grand viper and you manage to block it go for an On combo. Even his two hit over drive has a flaw since it only combos when it hits block the first one and when the second attack comes out and you have 50% tension go for his super guard point thingy using 6HS and make him think twice about before he try’s that again. Klaige told me this earlier but when your opponent try’s to dragon punch or use an invisabilty to get out of a butter fly trap its best to use Issai Ougi ( the big fan overdrive) and let them know where they stand this works on just about every body
Although chipp has given me alot of problems in the past few weeks you could easily turn the match in your favor. if your opponent whore’s 2D alot and you see it coming use 2HS and you may may score a counter hit and this is where i like to use the [2]8 k overdrive since chipp take damage like a wet noodle this should just about kill him. Other than that just keep the pressure on him use super jump combos, random butter flys anything that keeps him stationary while putting him whrer you want him and builds up his guard meter. Do not let him gain any kind of momentum and watch out for for his specials and overdrivesb those will stop you dead in your tracks guard point is not you friend in this match(on some occasions). and if you get them in the corner and they attack out of desperation use anjis dead angle attack and combo in to On after the wall bouncethen super jump combo just to add to the humiliation.
