GGXX Analysis Match Analysis thread

This match up isn’t going to go in my favor well…

But is there a decent strategy for May vs. Johnny?

His reach is giving me headaches, and I can’t jump in on him for crap. Any help there at all?

I have no good suggestions… I’m a May newb. AWESOME AVATAR THOUGH!

Would it be possible to poke johnny with dolphins?

Potbuster has invincibility on its 4 frame startup, sir (thus Sol can’t 5K him out ot it, he’ll get vacuumed in for free). If you could hit him out of it or throw him first, most of Potemkin’s grab setups would be ass. However, there is no such thing as a “free” Potbuster, ever. You can always jump out or backdash. This is where mixups come in with Heat Knuckles and poking.

To be honest, I think we’re both right. Know why? Buster’s distance.

I am imagining that Megafist has been done deep, where Potemkin can suffer the most from his disadvantage, so a faster move will beat it out (not positive on this, so if you wanna follow up and elaborate I’ll concede the point) - of which there are…very few, and forget I mentioned 6P’s. I personally never go for that because I never let Potemkin get a chance to put me IN that kind of situation, so…yeah, dunno where that came from. And of course the last thing - if Buster was done deep, then due to him being in my throw range + my throw executing faster + his natural disadvantage from having that move blocked anyway = my throw wins.

However, I thought about what you said and noticed how it contradicted what I have experienced somewhat, but then I imagined the Buster being done at half a character’s length or more away from Potemkin. If that’s the case, then no, Buster will swallow everything. If it’s done at least that far away, Potemkin will have the extra time he needs to start it up and grab Sol (and anyone else stupid enough to throw something out) while he (Potemkin) is invincible. Plus, since it’s done at that distance, no one else besides ANOTHER Potemkin can punish him for it with any kind of throw, so Buster wins.

Comparing the two distances, I think, allows us both to be right. Though it’s not about who’s right, it’s about information being accurate, so thanks for bringing it up. I think we can agree on the fact that anyone doing a deep Megafist is asking for trouble in the first place.

P.S. Will you possibly be at MWC or Evo?

Hasta manana BOF.

i do not see any possible way that poti can win this fight…all things even. ESP in #R. poti is DONE.

ok… blocked starship (ground) = free buster, 6k (the overhead somersault kick) = free buster… EVEN IF IT CONNECTS. if she does old school yukinose roll strings, you can get super buster. hammer falls are good…i eat those alot cause sometimes its hard to get out a second attack b4 it hits. well timed backdashes into buster is good too.

if you think razor roger is bad…wait till you start dealing with punch roger. MWAHAHA. oh yeah…in #R poti has NO WAY of escaping the hug. even from full screen. NONE. cant back dash, cant jump away. you can flick it and send the wave…but it still latches on. meaning you HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE MIXUP AND PRESSURE THAT FOLLOWS. she can FRC punch roger and be all over you from full screen. if the buri player is on guard for poti busters and such…there isnt much you can do.

i gotta say this is in the top 5 of bad matchups in the game. but it makes up for her vs. millia match. haha

Pot’s buster’s throw range = 176. Best non pot ground throw range = 49. =(. i think its invul 3-5. If the pot player is playing smart, he will be out of your range. Also, those 3-5 frames give sometimes makes pot’s throw range look retardedly long, since, your moves hitbox will go inside of his hit area, and then, he will grab THAT extended hitbox. Stupid, i know.

i typically have a field day with johnny with may haha… just knock im down and make him your play thing… i play may differently from most players so yeah…

You just backed up what I just said, thanks Destin.

Edit - not sarcasm.

AFAIK, an IB’d megafist nets you get guaranteed damage on him.

Like, Baiken gets 6P after a IB’d megafist. Probably the best she can get from it. You have to be early with it, otherwise you probably will get pout busted. heh.

She may be able to sneak in a Youzansen too; have to try that when I get home.

\o/

We all know my buri is pimp enough for the millia matchup… =)

I actually want to try this series. Which game should I start with? Also, is there anything particular I should know about?

play Guilty Gear XX #reload

this game is all about watching vids and being in practice mode…do that for about a week before you play anyone.
this game lends itself to newb beatings cause the learning curve is a little high

After you learn the basics of your character, it’s just practice practice practice…it’s all about knowing the matchups.

would any of you guys have any advise on using BRIDGET against

  1. BAIKEN when she gets you against the corner
  2. a keep away DIZZY

thanks in advance.

also can you guys tell me what that thing is when your yo-yo grabs on to the opponent and is like a giant circle?

go to the bridget thread

Anyone have a thing showing pot’s win/lose ratios for all the characters or know where I can get a master list of them?

Is that XX or #R??

edit of course it’s XX, Jam wouldn’t be that low

I’m having trouble with this match up…Johnny vs. I-no. Can’t defend aginst her once she gets in on me…what to do???

Is there an actual list of each characters’ good/bad match-ups, along with reasons? The Arcadia rankings are old, and there’s a good bit of discrepencies from what I’ve read.

From what I’ve gathered, Sol vs. Axl/Johnny sucks for Sol, Bridget vs. Millia is in Millia’s favour, and Potemkin loses to Bridget/Dizzy.

Also, what about Potemkin vs. Slayer?
