potemkin doesn’t have unblockables. if you’re talking about his heat knuckle > back dash > slide head set up… you should never be getting hit by that.
no matter how well potemkin times it, you should be able to back dash (or reversal special/force break/super for some characters) out of it every single time.
and the gigantor set up is not a frame trap unblockable. you can get out if you instant block the gigantor. slide head won’t trip you if potemkin does sldie head during block stun. so yea… potemkin players leave a very slight gap in between. it’s still tough to get out bu it’s not a unblockable.
potemkin is dumb, but i think it’s absurd to compare him to eddie.
I was mostly referring to his reflector set ups. I know you can back dash out of that but that’s 1 frame timing isn’t it? I don’t see a lot of people getting that. I still go for it every time but I’d say it’s like… a 30% success ratio.
Wait you can IB -> jump out of the reflector? Why do so many people get owned by that shit? >_<
If you IB Gigantor (the reflector) you have a pretty big window to get out. It’s certainly not 1-frame timing.
In general, if you watch current Japanese matches, they don’t go for Gigantor on wakeup anymore. It costs meter and is much easier to get out of once you know how it works.
Midscreen/close to corner, if you have 50% tension, you can do: gp, k extension, 6 rc 6 into 214 k, 5s and then On. Follow up with a butterfly.
Your opponent close to corner: gp, k extention, 6 rc 6 into (5s) 236+s, FB Rin loop. THe 5s is optional, it depends on the character. If they are really close to the cornet, no rc is needed.
I really, really beg to differ. You can use 6k -> k on wakeup. The auto-guard is pretty fast/in the early frames. Seriously though, I 6k autoguard on reaction. 6k is great.
No character in AC is overly broken. Yes, Eddie’s unblockables are extremely good when he gets knockdowns, Jam is extremely good when she lands anything into forcebreak anywhere close to the corner, but honestly every character has flaws and every character is very usable. Honestly if you were going to complain about a character, make it Testament. Forward EXE beast is probably the best move in the game by about a factor of 10. Seriously though, there is not a character that can’t either do really good damage, zone well, or get out of pressure easier than some other characters. Exploit your opponents’ weaknesses. Don’t get hit. Instead of complaining about how broken a character is, deal with it and figure out how to win.
It’s not absurd to compare Eddie to Potemkin. Anybody can learn slide head---->combo, pot busters, etc in a couple of days. You can not do Eddie’s good shit in a few days. Maybe wake up -D- 22D unblockables yea, but that’s about it.
Don’t get me wrong, Eddie is really fucking stupid and should be nerfed repeatedly, but it’s not like any old person can just pick him up and be uber with him (unlike slash Sol/Ky and #r slayer)
I can get like 2 1/2 reps of the butt(corner only) but I can’t even get two of the orbs, I’ve gotten it like a handfull of times and never gotten it mid-screen.
Right, again, that’s a totally legitimate critique (in a way, so is “stop getting hit by dusts --” but that’s a total no shit moment, right, like I had no idea I wasn’t supposed to get hit) but some people just seem so ashamed of this and it comes up a lot. The big injoke at MWC this year (last tournament I went to ;- was “Oops, American burst” and it’s like, damn, have these guys not seen the kind of spectacular failures the best players in the world can create just by hitting dust and another button at what felt like a reasonable time?
It’s like by criticizing the American scene and talking about how oh well we’re so spread out yadda yadda players can let themselves off the hook for sucking when they should just not really worry about it as much and just try not to fuck up next match. Again, I’m not trying to start anything (I mean, Kentucky and Cali players/posters seem to be the least negative) but any time someone goes on about sloppy American play it makes me roll my eyes. Do other games’ scenes have such low self-esteem?
Anyway blah blah blah it sounds like I’m preaching to the choir but yeah. Maybe I’m just making a problem where there isn’t one
On the whole most of American play is sloppy, but that is mostly due to not having enough match experience or practice in general. As America is now, it is practically impossible to become as good as the very best Japanese players who gets tons of competition who can basically play against great players of every character all of the time. That being said, America is improving a lot (at least from what I see here). In terms of combos/execution and less so things like bursting (because you do need matchup experience to know burst points) people shouldn’t be making excuses. As the scene continues to grow (which it is), I have a feeling the gap between America and Japan will rapidly shrink.
That venom was pretty nice. I like how he would hesitate to give the illusion of openings and then nail eddie. Very stylish play.
Also watch the last video BoF posted. He lands HOS’s instant kill in a tournament >_<
I like how at the end when testament was punch spamming him in the air, he slash backed one of the punches and threw him. I’m gonna start doing that to people that try to use punch spam as a setup for a ground throw.
