this has always been the case? why does everyone bitch about him now and not like, slayer whos always been insanely good. even though he’s “harder” to fight against, he’s got such easily exploitable weaknesses that any half decent player can capitalize on

Slayer wasn’t “insanely good” in Slash.
He’s easy to pick up and be successful with on a lower level, and even at low level he requires the opponent to exercise a little patience. GG players don’t like patience, so they try to rush their way in, eat damage for their mistakes and cry foul.
Potemkin is a frustraiting character to figure out at first, but i honestly think a lot of the complaints center around having a running joke about bitching about him. If more people actually understood the kind of horrific situations that say eddie or testament can create, you’d probably hear less complaints about the human battleship.
Even if Slayer is high damage, he doesn’t have exceptionally high defense. Potempkin can get good (great) damage from just a few hits from his normals, and potempkin buster does a ton of damage for just a single move.
He only really starts to fall behind the other members of the cast when faced with specific matchups, or once his opponents reach a level where their offense isn’t full of holes, and where they can get the damage they need everytime they hit him, as well as a better understanding of their character.
That, and he is just frustrating to fight, with a few exceptions.
Slayer has the 3rd highest defense in the game. I’m in the minority, but I will fight pochop all day long over dealing with slayer and the two piles of insanity ahead of him in the tiers.
I’d fight a shitty Eddie any day, or a shitty testament, or a even shitty Slayer. But a shitty Potempkin can still be a pain in the ass.

A poorly played potemkin just requires a little patience, his weaknesses are easily exploited when he’s in the hands of a low level player. The same goes for the other top tier characters, but potemkin is no more difficult to deal with when played poorly.

Sorry to break up the discussion, but what makes a good Millia player? I’m really struggling against certain characters (both Sol’s, good Jam’s, Squelch’s Robo, and of course Slayer) and was wondering if there is a good game plan for taking on these characters.

Anyway here’s why I ALWAYS HATED Potemkin. Long ago there was a man. This man was a wrestler. He did large amounts of damage that you no way in hell could keep from happening. Because he was a wrestler his moves were unblockable. He had a lot of reach and SPDed me over and over. This man was Zangief. The first character I truly hated in fighting games. My hate for him led me to hate other characters that landed huge amounts of damage off of a throw: Raiden(SNK),Hugo(SF3),Leon(DOA),Mr Heart(HNK), Wolf(VF) and well most FGs with a grappler except: El Blaze(VF5) and King(Tekken) and Bayman(DOA). I hated these wrestlers and their bullshit amounts off of throws that there was no solution to beating. Tis why I hate Potemkin. That and ARC decided that Pot needed Pot Buster, a FB Pot buster, and an OD Pot Buster WITH HOMING IN WHICH HE CAN TAKE ACTION IF IT DOESN’T CONNECT. Not to mention a FRC on Pot Buster. Mad range on Pot Buster too. Fuck Potemkin. How the hell is a tourney winning character and Sol isn’t? WTF? WTF ARC? WTF!

Double edit: Wow EDDIE and TESTAMENT Give Pot troubles? REALLY? This is Accent Core! They give everybody problems. Fuck them both. At least Pot can win tourney’s… Sol and Order-Sol can’t.

bridget, was like 7 - 3 or 6.5 - 4.5 for bridget now its like 4.5 - 5.5, potemkins worst matchup is eddie now, and i dont think he has any bad matchups otherwise (testament arguably). dizzy getting assreamed again helped him out too.
the only reason he keeps rising in tiers is because his worst matchups just got consistantly worse overall in each game. in slash he lost eddie and dizzy became a much better match for him, then slash to ac bridget got really shitty.
