I don’t understand why are some people are attempting to deny the truth in posts like these.
For instance, I use A.B.A, and I think matchup versus Baiken is retarded. However, I would rather learn the matchup (although it’s still retarded), than go learn another character just to make up for my shortcomings.
In the end it’s up to the player, but think of it this way. If you enter a tournament and it’s character locked, you’re most probably fucked.
Pshaw.I’ve been playing since X.Thats not valid enough.
Now what I already knew, was your perspective. You say that because its easier to get the system through playing with that specific character. Then once they grasp an idea of the system, to branch off to play with other characters. Instead of going around and confusing themselves right?
To my knowledge, ABA vs Baiken is about even. And to be honest, if anyone is so worried about their match ups that they have to counter pick their unfavorable match ups, they should just play Testament or Eddie.
I think Hellmonkey said it best in this post regarding tiers, which can be closely related match ups anyways.
Potemkin Buster isn’t a command grab, it’s an alternative lifestyle.
In any case whoops yeah PB has a bigger range duuuuuuuuuh and apparently so does Faustspinner. It has more range than May/Sol/Eddie command grabs, though…
But yeah. I was trying to think of something positive to say about Slayer’s “scary” command throw with max stagger time of 19F aka “my best grab combo is grab, 2K > 2D” but really there isn’t anything except… it’s unblockable.
Also… how the hell do you “counter-pick” in a game where most characterss worst matchup is 4-6? You’re trading 4-6 for 6-4 at best. There aren’t matchups that are bad enough that you would legitimately “need” to switch, or are there any matchups good enough that you would gain a significant advantage for switching.
counter pick if you have the time to master those characters…why not? I just don;'t have the time to get good with so many characters, nor do I want to. I play AbA and Axl seriously, if I want4eed to counter pick I would of just playd eddie and called it a day.
Same as Dizzy’s beam super when you have 100% tension. Except instead of pressing slash, you press punch+kick.
Now that you know how to do it, don’t do it, EVER.
All of ABA’s good pressure stuff is easy to bait guard-cancels with, though it’s kinda hard to get used to doing it… also ABA’s throw leads to pretty good damage and you can get a lot of throws on Baikens. You outpoke her for the most part. Baiken is just a weird fight for everybody, you have to adjust your pressure and such but once you do that it’s not terrible for anybody. ABA just gets worked over until you make those adjustments because of how risky Moroha mode is.
…
So what’s wrong with trying out someone different against a certain matchup? Trying someone else to at least learn a little something is wrong? I started playing Venom because he zones, a different style from Sol/Order-Sol and Axl. I guess its pointless to play other characters since you end up screwed either way? 4-6 or 6-4 right? Why give Axl a shot against Testament? Its funny that you see it as only counter picking and not learning how to play the character at all. You seem to have not notice that I said I still mostly use OrderSol/Sol anyway. “counter-picking” doesn’t promise anything. Its just that certain matcups induce bloodlust I need to take a breather every once in a while.
“Learn the matchup.” Right. Because playing a different character you learn nothing. Am I counter picking if I choose Venom against Chipp instead of Sol?
You make it seem like by counter picking(or choosing a character with possibly better/different strengths) the player has abandoned the matchup with their main. I have never done that. I have simply chosen to try a different character cuz guess what? I want to learn how to play that character as well. You know sometimes some players just like to play different characters. But I guess thats counter picking too.
I don’t have any problem with you or anyone here. That 2nd statement pretty much only applies to KOF and NGBC. Since its more team based I tend to go for a balance within my teams. The whole “teamwork” thing. Its advised to mix teams up since some make better/more rounded teams than others.
The only matchups that induce bloodlust in me are TE, ED and PO (not so much). I can’t really see myself going nuts about counter picking however if I have trouble with a matchup while I’m using Faust -say, I don’t have experience, don’t know what to do or just plain hate fighting against said person- I’d switch to Zappa. I think that’s pretty sensible.
with all that time you invest getting decent with another character, you can just get alot better with your main.
and for sabre getting beaten by “random FB puffballs” in a pretty old post somewhere i can’t locate- either defend more and let the jam waste the tension, or use more stuff that trade well with the FB.
like for ex. with eddie i use alot of S drills vs jam so even if she goes through it and hits me with the FB, she gets KDed and can’t do anything afterwards. (she can be hit on the same frame she hits) she indeed hit me with it but it was still a waste of tension which means the S drill is a good FB puffball trade.
