If you’re going to be flipping coins you might as well play Johnny.
buh dum tsch
Not really unless you plan on playing strictly with teams. You might have trouble fighting against a certain character, so you switch to another character to counter the character that gives you trouble. It’s more effective in Super Turbo though.
You still need to learn each character you play effectively as well as knowing the matchup so it’s not that simple.
Since when can you not switch on loss in a best of 3?
I agree with this man, baiken needs much love.
Counter picking in GG isn’t very effective in singles in most cases unless you can play a bunch of characters at the same level as your main. The match ups in GG aren’t as drastic as say… 3S or ST, and unless you’re playing as Potemkin vs Testament or Eddie, it’s probably in your best interest not to try and counter pick.
This is simply not true, counter picking does exist. If you’ve seen the Finals are SBI, SBII, or FRX, you would know that o_o.
If this were the cause, nobody would have a problem with a rule that forces you to keep your character throughout the tournament.
I’ve been counter picked in multiple tournaments, and without a secondary I was pretty much screwed.
Yeah that’s not true. Hell I counter pick. I main Sol/Order-Sol. What the hell do I do if I come across an ABA player? Axl. Testament? Axl. Potemkin? Sol/Order-Sol.
Don’t get me wrong, I do play against Testament/Potemkin MAJORITY of the time with Sol/Order-Sol but I do counter pick time to time. So does the local Slayer around here. He busts out Testy most of the time eventhough his main is Slayer… And so does other players around here too. We all have secondaries.
theres pretty much no reason to counterpick in gg. you have to work harder in some matchups and less in others. potemkin has to work pretty hard in 2 and gets a free pass to victory in the rest lol
literally potemkin is the only character counterpicks should properly revolve around once you reach a certain level of play.
hed probably be the best character in the game without those two matchups too
It’s done in so much as you can use your secondary(ies) over your main for less than favorable matchups, yes. I think we all agree on that. This and counterpicking are two different things imo. The matchups aren’t so drastic in GG, but a secondary that covers your main’s flaws can be really good. That and the near RPS-like necessity of switching in other games are not the same animal.
Potemkin players are evil.
That’s what I do in every FG. I always pick someone to cover the weakness of the other.
This
but i also like this
Honestly the best thing to do is just learn your bad matchups. It’s not like you can play every match the same way and win.
How?
No. That’s covering YOUR weakness. It’s not like Sol and Order are crap either.
I guess it would be typical to mention the Japanese, but those guys have to register their characters in tournaments.
There are more reasons than better competition for why they’re best than us. Counterpicking? Fuck off. Learn your matchups.
it isnt just because they stick with one character either, thats part of it though.
a small part.
biggest part=ARCADES. COMPETITION. GOOD PEOPLE TO PLAY WITH WHENEVER YOU WANT.
Guess Ill just stick to Millia. I think others will throw me off :wasted:
also, harakiri?
the thing is, kaqn has been playing FOREVER, at least since XX (i thought i read somewhere that he played competitively in X), so your remark is missing the context of the suggestion: we’re telling people who are either new to the game, or still relatively weak overall, to stick with one character, so that they can focus and learn the system from one perspective.
Rtl, I haven’t seen Harakiri play before. I’m not familiar with him. @_@
Regarding match ups and counter picking: there is a difference in counter picking and covering your character’s weaknesses; both of them go hand-in-hand with one another. The worst match ups in the game are Pot vs Eddie/Testament, which can be argued as being anywhere between 4-6 or 3-7 for Potemkin. While the match up is difficult for Potemkin, it’s not unwinnable for any means, nor does either character shut down Potemkin completely. And when it comes to that match up, unless you play Eddie and Testament as good as your Potemkin, you’re not going to be counter picking them anyways.
The tiers and match ups in this game are close enough to the point that constantly counter picking rather than learning the match up properly is counter productive. If you know your character and the match ups inside and out, you shouldn’t need to counter pick at all. Better players overcome their weaknesses, rather than dodging them entirely. Counter picking your character’s 4-6 match up is just plain silly.
I really want to learn to use Eddie. I tried going thorugh the guides, and some OWaga videos. . but I’m not getting anything
Anyone got some tips to get Eddie’s extreme basics down
?
A command grab that is typically the least damaging command throw in the game?
It’s also the slowest command grab in the game if you BDC it and tied for slowest “normal” command throw in the game normally ;(
It does have the biggest range out of all the command grabs, though… I think.
POTEMKIN BUSTERS CD BACK INTO REALITY
