GGXX:Accent Core Thread! [AMERICAN PS2 RELEASE, GO GO GO!]

Alright. I tried to quit GG but I cannot. I just enjoy the game too damn much. I guess after my last post I had epihany(or whatever) and I enjoy the game alot more. Which is odd cuz I learned what I was missing from my Sol. It wasn’t overheads or some mixup. It was c.S and f.S. So whoo my Sol got alot better.

So SirSmoov, I wanna like Axl too. I want inut on all the people you listed, Hook me up! It just so happens that some of my comp contains a Ky,Sol,Jam, and Potemkin.:arazz:

Isn’t comboing into airthrow just throwing immediately after they tech, turning the beat black and continuing the combo (I assume this is because you could throw them before their tech “finished” and the game registered the combo as over)?

use a lot of 2S and j.HS/j.P and you’ll be fine, lol.

2H IAD iadS > H XX orbs, land, jS > H > D XX orbs works for a first rep… sometimes makes it hard to time everything else though. For the people who are too lazy to get the dash jump on the first rep? I really only do it if I mess up (happens quite often) when I’m playing ABA (happens quite rarely).

i though combo airthrow only worked when they started bursting.

:sweat:Ok, guys I have a bit of a problem here. I like too many of the cast members in this game. So far:Sol,Order-Sol(mains),I-no,Venom,Axl and again Johnny. Now, I want to have people who have different playtypes to alternate between them, i.e.Sol=Rushdown,Venom=zone. Against ABA for instance, it doesn’t make sense to fight with Sol,lose then switch to Order-Sol…

Now playing all these characters are hurting my skill development… I-no and Venom take quite the time to become good with. Axl isn’t that hard to pick up for me but I have a history of playing characters with a deep, DEEP learning curve(Ibuki:3S,Raven:T5). I need to knockdown a few characters.

Has anyone else been in this situation?

Character crisis? Yeah. I don’t know if anyone can really help on this though. Ultimately, you will have more fun playing certain characters and not so much the others. That is where you should probably draw the line. For each play type, who do you enjoy more? You enjoy Dizzy the most! I’m not biased or anything looks away

didnt you quit the game like a week ago

Yeah I did, and I couldn’t follow through so like 2 days later, started playing again. I’M WEEEEAAAAKKKK!!! I had some sort of epihany or something. I guess my last rant cleaned out my system or something…
Hell, I even play better now. My Sol greatly improved in 1 day.

Play against some random dude anywhere. No matter who they use, pick the character that you feel comfortable sizing up another person with and not just cuz A is better than B. Whoever you pick is who you should use because it makes no sense to try and learn some character and end up not using them because you aren’t comfortable using them against strangers.

I see where you’re coming from. I think my amazement with Axl is the fact that I never had played him before. The “new character sensation” problem. Oddly though, I was using him in matches…

sidenote- i tried to write something semi comprehensive but my thoughts are all over the place and i keep typin’ and erasin’ shit…i’ll just give the gist of my ideas…on 1 matchup for now

Jam vs Axl - not as originally bad as i thought…slight adv for Jam, but not that bad i think…

when u’re being rushdown, backdash is a good option IF she has no meter or charge kick…axls backdash sucks ass and she can catch your backdash with a regular poke and go into combos from it…or they might just throw out fb ball for whatever reason, as there are very few instances where theres a bad time to use it…if u get caught while she has charged kick or meter it will hurt…especially since she cranks up guard bar so easy with 6hs…

uppercut isnt so bad actually when u’re being rushed down…if u time it right u probably wont get a clean hit, but more than likely a trade, which can sometimez be followed up with a 5p, 2s combo…as long as u got meter to rc or frc and it doesnt whiff u’re good to go…i really dont have to say it but i will anyway, u have to use skill and discretion with the uppercut…a few uppercuts and they’ll try to bait em or slow down the rushdown from time to time, giving u more chances to escape…

axl’s saving grace in this matchup (and maybe a few others) is 3p…jam and baiken are some of the easiest characters to combo off of 3p from…ch 3p at max range=half life for axl…jam has 0 pokes that beat it…u have to be cautious when she has meter of course…3p will actually beat fb ball or trade with it about half the time, but the other half u’re eatin big dmg combos, so u cant throw caution to the wind when she has meter…

errr…few other pros for axl…regular puffballs and fb balls from a distance are easily countered on reaction…she can burn meter to fake/cancel but i dont usually get owned hard for tryin…

if she throws out the low kick option from her runnin’ stance or whatever the hell it is u get free 2d combo on block…from time to time they’ll throw out the the charge kick after the split kick if they have it…it saves her from some characters if they try to punish the initial split kick, but axls 2d will duck it…then u can stand up and punish with standard combo if they throw the charge kick out…

jam rapes u air to air…just block…if u’re falling from the air right on top of jam, just block…her 6p rapes everything…

theres some other stuff but thats the gist i guess…jam does rape u up close, but if u’re playin’ it right jam eats big dmg tryin to get in…meh…not so bad, still in jams favor though…thats it for now

I’m looking to trade in my copy of the PS2 GGXX^C for the Wii version, just because I love the feel of the classic controller. . .but I heard a rumor that some of the FRC timings had been changed to accommodate those damn waggle controls. Anyone know if this is the case? If it’s not a direct copy of the PS2 version, I ain’t getting it.

It’s the Wiimote nonsense. Because of the Wiimote they extended FRC window to 20 frames. :lame:

Just don’t use the Wiimote.

Wait. . .so if I just use the regular Classic Controller setup, will the FRC timing still be fucked up, or will it be the normal Arcade timing?

you can change frc timing

example: pots 6hs frc can extend to when it actually hits but you ahve to change it to the setting that goes beyond its normal 2f frc timing!

For anyone who cares (read: Only MAGUS), I’ll probably drop by SFSU you sometime tomorrow since I finally have my debit card back and I might actually get out of the house for something other than work tomorrow (read: school).

I need to practice with Venom before I go because no one there seems to use him for some reason…

i play Venom as my secondary, and i play at SFSU occasionally (would go more often i was more used to american style sticks)

what time you goin dude? I’ll roll through.

I was planning to be there around 2:00 P.M., but now that I have to the bank apparently to get my debit card activated, I am not sure.

I’ll try and post in here aroun noon tomorrow if I can go at all.

Hey Man,

I have the same problem. I like too many characters as well. However I don’t find this a problem. I find this encouraging. It means you are able to use more than just one style type fighter, (aka Sol=rushdown/pressure). Although most will disagree with me, I found that casually practicing with each helps all my characters be more random and rounded out. I found Sol’s rushdown will give me ideas for my main, who isn’t a rushdown character. (aka: Good rush strategies) I found venoms quick cross overs gave me inspiration to my other characters as well and all of them are getting better. But at first all my characters were going down the drain, even my main. It was hard to accept at first. However, I found that my style changed unconciously and evolved. As far as choosing one, well idk. That’s a hard one, all the characters have their pros in personality and play. I believe you should choose the character you enjoy the most, beacuase 1. that’s all that counts 2. If your in a hard match, you’ll atleast enjoy it. :china:
