Yea GGs man. I am so glad that you noticed that I made you have to play aggressively, because that is your biggest weakness. Lack of offense. Even if you can outpoke your opponent, if you don’t follow up you are going to need to win alot of pokes to win a round. Which can work fine for some matches, but when you are facing someone who can do the same tactics back you got to make every poke as dangerous as possible, especially if the opponent is making theirs. Notice how most of my cr lp led to an Ex FBA. Thats over 240 dmg everytime, and after I get that knockdown I continue to put alot of pressure.
When you started to play more offensively you did better.
I look for situations that can get me the most dmg done as quickly as possible which is why I don’t use throws as often as other Vega players. I try to do to most opponents what I did to you. Put pressure, let them try to counter but punish their counter attempts with alot of dmg. I destroy OS techs alot using different methods. Some times I use cr lp if they try to counter to quickly. Some I use CH, some I use cr mk, but for the hardest cases to get them to attack I use my trusty cl HP. Thats also why I like to use close grabs instead of Kara throws which sets up my cl HP. Although when I add kara throws to my game its going to increase my game significantly.
I notice that you like to counter poke ALOT which usually gets you the focus attack or the cosmic heel counter mainly, although as you noticed I got you with the cr lp often as well cause of that. Try to mix up your defenses more with backdashes and more blocking. I also suggest that you take a look at your air game. I AAd you way too often iirc. And I hardly got AAd at all, not including the missed Ex FBAs.
Oh yea and that st HP got you punished hard. When I blocked it you ate cr mp into Ex FBA. That move is way too unsafe, and its hardly worth it in footsies particularily.
ok so in short:
Be more aggressive. Using the hit confirms and comboing are very important! Also follow up after an untechable knockdown. Continue the pressure!
Work on your AA AND your air attacking.
@Assassin Jay
GGs man. Unfortunately we couldn’t finish cause of lag but w/e. Those wake up Ex FBAs were supposed to be cross ups, but my timing was off. I am usually fairly accurate with those crossup Ex FBAs as Buddha’s Weapon can tell you. I just incorporated that tactic into my game recently so it still needs some work to be even more accurate. I usually get it around 60%-70% of the time though which isn’t bad.
yeah, i tend to block a lot more. idk know why i was pushing buttons. i usally dont push buttons that close, especially against Vega. but yeah i noticed those cst.hp. i usually do ccr.lp and then go for cst.hp thats my set up. As for my AA game im still working on that, since that is my 2nd biggest problem. Execution being my 3rd and last problem. But air game idk i tagged you a lot with jf.lk mid air. I also have been trying to mix it up with that move and dash under and go for cst.hp, think i got you once like that. but GG next time we play ill be much better prepared.
Oh yea thats right. You did get me a few times with the jf lk. Nonetheless, as you said you can tell that your air game was lacking. Also I don’t prefer jump lk cause its hitbox is easy to beat and its a much weaker punishing move than his other air attacks although the fact that it has many active frames can make it useful. Ill go check on the active frames on all his air attacks. I still may end up using only mp, hk, hp, and air grab when jumping forward except for special cases like Abel matchup where I find that jf lp is helpful.
GG’s KaMi… yea i noticed u where doing the EX-FBA on wakeup which i figured u were tryin to CROSS me up in which u did alcouple times i was like wtf !!..i been tryin to add that to my game also but aint try to do it on u dont ask why , but umm i havent been on lately (work & enjoyin summer wit my ppls ) & since i reach my GOAL of gettin more than 5,000 PP’s & over 10,000 BP’s no fluke cuz i do face GOOD PLAYERS/tournament players… i came to terms that i should focus more on hit confirming since i mostly lack in that department. wether i win or lose as long as im consistent wit the hit confirms i be SATISFIED… in them matches u were successful about 80% wit hit confirms as opposed to me about 40% itsz not accurate but u were more successful than me… but GG’s even doh the lagg kinda messed up our 1st to 5 6 matched for sum reason was just messin up :(…3-2 my LEAD
Ps. u should upload the games we hadd on your channel & post it up on the matador video thread
Yo sry for the late reply. I kept forgetting that I didn’t respond to here or on XBL. I may upload some of our videos. After rewatching them… they were quite impressive.
its okayyy. . . . & yea i was watching em also but my camera isnt working at da moment so im not able tp upload nuffin & alot of pplsz are asking me to upload videos of me plying good plyers
@Artiskan- Remember studying and practicing isn’t what makes you good per se. Studying correctly and practicing correctly does though. I am going to highlight things that you can work on.
Use ST at the correct time. Practically all the times you would throw out ST after getting hit by LVL 2 FA and it worked cause of lag. You are at -2 and Im at +2. That does not work. You also used ST after hitting me with RCF. Again you are at -2 and Im at +2. It does not work! It only works cause of lag. ST works great if you know that they are going to jump or grab you. Also be careful throwing it out on wakeup because ST won’t beat out any meaty attack. Use it when it should be used.
Your offense needs to be comprised more with combos than just pokes. By doing alot of dmg you can get the opponent to try to counter you in a way which you can then counter back by using moves such as: grab, FA, CH, jump, st HK, cr lp, st lk. Also work on using cr lp more. Its a great tool that has slightly more range than Ryu cr mk so its pretty good for 4 frames startup and 13 total frames. This also combos into the EX FBA for 250 dmg which is great.
AA- Vega has alot of ways to AA people but you just have to know how to use them. St hk and cr HP can work great in some cases, but when you are closer to the opponent you may have to go for the air to air AAs such as jump mp, HP, HK, Nj HP, NJ mp, NJ HK, and air grab. Learn when to use them. In other cases you have ST and ultra 2. If they attack early you can get them with HK ST or ultra 2 but if they attack late you can catch them early with ST and may not be able to catch them with ultra 2.
Predictability- Yes you hit me with Ultra 2 as an AA. Thats great, but after you got me once or twice I noticed that for too long you were looking for the jump in that never came. Trying to land that ultra takes concentration and if I know that that is all that your looking for then its very easy to defend against. Same with the reversal STs. You got to practice your footsies with higher lvl players and be more patient with your blocking.
I want you to understand that Vega is a simple character, as in there are no complex combos or maneuvers (unless FBA counts as one), however you have to have a strong sense of his basics to do well with him. Learn his few simple combos, learn how to AA with him, learn how to mount a solid offense using your pokes, combos, counters, kara throws. Learn how to attack at close, mid, AND far range and mix it up. Thats what makes Vega’s offense so good, its that he can fight you well at such far ranges and do good dmg, and hes so fast so he can transition to such ranges fast and counter you for good dmg.
Why don’t you send some friend requests to some of your other fellow Vega players and work on this stuff. Or if you feel like you need a break, then heck take a break, but you shouldn’t quit. Don’t forget that sometimes when you fall you come back stronger.
Im still stuck with the same problem, i do well against good players and get horribly beaten by “randoms” and with randoms i mean people who do things without any real reason to it…these are beyond things like mindgames and conditioning, they simply do their random thing and be done with it.
Basicly that means i do well against the good people that i join or get invited too in endless matches…, but i suck horribly in ranked matches against ultimate randomness… is there a way to play these guys without operativly cutting out braincells?
The only thing i found works decently is just block and dont do anything alot… then block or let them wiff all their random special moves and punish where i can… but that is EXTREMELY boring.
Should i even play ranked for practise? i feel like i am becoming a worse player…wether i win or lose. (with exceptions offcourse , you can meet really good players in ranked occasionally too)
I have also finally sworn off playing vega against americans, it just does not work for me with the added latency to the already bad online play… Vega gets so boned in bad connection enviroments, its not even funny. Trying to poke only to see the poke come out when the enemy is already in the air half his way towards you not even mentioning dropping all the 1f links.
Ill just select some shining c achievement needed characters if i meet them.
: ( well ok…i usually use ST after RCF as a bait tactic to catch people off guard but now it’s become a bad habit…even after doing several matches later i still feel the same way as before…also when i try to combo with cr. lp it also breaks…it might be my connection but i still have problems even in training mode and i’ve been practicing this constantly since the vanilla…oh well…idk what do but i guess i’ll try to get a little more patience…i kind of tried to stop picking different characters b/c i feel that it destroys my connection with using vega which is something i never thought of doing before…regardless, you’re great player and it’ll be nice to see u make in EVO someday since it probably won’t happen for me anytime soon…thanks for the advice and ggs…
GG’s Kamisama dang that ibuki man…:chainsaw: naw but fun matches
I kept trying to find ways to block perfectly but kept messing up lol.Tried to use Vega speed to poke you it worked a couple of times till you got me in the conor and dominated.
I hardly fight any good Ibuki players.
I can’t stop myself from doing stupid things when fighting.
GGs Th3 JoK3R J. Yea the Ibuki vs. Vega MU can probably go either direction. Ibuki is kind of like Abel with less HP, less range, less dmg, and no command grabs. When you go on offense it is tough for Ibuki because her footsies abilities are not that great, and Vega has a strong offense. But if you let my Ibuki in close, then you better use your defense well or else it will be the same like facing Abel, she will just use crazy mixups until you die.
And yea… just work on staying in control and not doing stupid things lol.
Glad to see you’ve definitely improved since we first played months ago…also glad to see you took my advice and got rid of that habit of blackflipping on wakeup and started using backdash more often.
There were two things that i noticed that you need to work on though.
Better punishes. I felt like i was getting away with too many things that i shouldnt have. One example are my wall dives…i know you were trying to backflip and hit me with an ex wall dive when i landed, but i noticed you havent mastered it yet so it gave me more reason to use it freely. Once you get it down 100% it’ll make me stop using it, thus limiting my offensive options. There were also a few times where i whiffed something, i dont remember if it was with akuma or vega but you just c.lp me or threw me instead of going for a more damaging combo…but yeah those are just off the top of my head though.
Try using cosmic heel/kara throw mixups. I dont think i saw you using any kara throws…i dont use it myself although i should but its really necessary to incorporate into your gameplay if you want to get to Makoto’s level.
I cant think of anything else right now but those are the main ones.
But yeah…you’re getting alot better in general…BIG improvement, so keep up the good work!
I feel pretty good right now, good but inconsistent. I had like a 3 month layoff and just recently was in a car accident. I think the break helped me though. Besides the meds slowing down my reaction time, my game’s more solid. But i can’t seem to maintain much consistency…
TBH i think i’m playing people out of my league too soon. It’s good to play tough comp but not to the point where you don’t learn much…
For example; i was in a lobby with lilsicx, Lamerboi and fricken’ Neo. Me! A rook ass Vega playing them.
Neo was the Juri that eliminated Tatsu at Evo iirc. And anyone who knows lilsicx’ll tell you he has one of the baddest Kens on XBL if not all of the U.S.
yea with BADD ASS FUCKIN CONNECTION shytt i cant stand plyin em with his connection & good connect is VITAL to VeGa’s Game…if u ply wit a badd lagg yur basically FUCKED
